We think it’s fair to say that most major cities in the world are full of attractions. Each city has its own distinct architecture, places to visit, local businesses, museums, and many more things that could make it into the list. However, do you know a city that has a dog as its local attraction? And no, we aren’t talking about the Hachiko statue at the Shibuya Station in Japan, we are talking about a very lovely golden retriever in the Polish city of Gdansk.

What makes this even better is that Gdansk is one of the most visited cities by tourists in Poland. One would think seeing the old town of Gdansk or maybe visiting the local beaches that meet the Baltic Sea would make for a great getaway trip, but Gdansk citizens and recent tourists alike might have a slightly different opinion.

Recently a new and very unusual place made itself known in the Tri-City. We already mentioned an adorable golden retriever, but what does it have to do with famous tourist places? Well, I bet most of us would take the chance to visit “the dog from the balcony.”

The golden retriever called Milka lives on the corner of Politechniczna and Bohaterów Getta Warszawskiego streets in Gdansk, Poland

“The dog from the balcony” became the highest-rated (5 stars!) tourist attraction both on Google maps and the local Polish website (think of it as Polish Trip Advisor) that lists most of the places to visit in different cities of Poland.

According to the Top Rated website, the retriever ranks first among Gdansk’s attractions and second among all locations in the city

Milka has her own Facebook page with over 6000 followers who enjoy (almost) daily pictures of Milka sitting out on the balcony

However, as of recently, “The dog from the balcony” was removed from Google maps as it wasn’t considered an official attraction of the city.

It’s also worth mentioning that Milka had higher ratings than some of the most visited places in the world, for example: the Louvre has a score of 4.7, the Taj Mahal is at 4.6 and the Statue of Liberty is at 4.7 stars.

People in the reviews said that the absence of the dog on the balcony was a legitimate reason for sadness

A user on Twitter called Daniel Tilles decided to share the Google page of “the dog from the balcony” before it got removed

Hey there, Pandas! My name is Diana (though some prefer to refer to me as Diane, Deanna, and even Liana sometimes), and I am a Community Post Moderator Lead for Bored Panda. As my position title states, I am one of the people (employed Pandas for bamboo) over here who work with the community side of things on this website to ensure all is well, and while at that, I also help various creators and artists get recognition for the incredible work they do by connecting them to a large worldwide audience. Other than that, outside of work, you can find me brewing a nice cup of coffee, making a pizza from scratch, or baking brownies. I also love traveling, concerts, and cats (heavy on that, because I am a cat mom).

I love that she’s the number one attraction, as she deserves!

Dogs and cats love to be up high like this. Cat towers can help alleviate unwanted behavior is cats. We took care of a neighbors dog, she loved laying on our deck (which was located higher up than any place in her home next door). When her owners returned to pick her up from being away for 2 weeks, she refused to leave the deck. She would come over every time she could and even our cats got along with her. Finally her owners pretty much gave up on getting her to come back to their home
