30 People That Roasted New Sonic Character Design So Bad, That The Creators Decide To Change Its Appearance
Pokémon Detective Pikachu is coming out this month to the excitement of many fans across the world. However, when it comes to beloved video game characters jumping to the big screens, not everyone is as lucky as Pikachu. When it was announced that Sonic the Hedgehog is getting his own live-action movie, fans were pretty excited. Unfortunately, the hype died down with the first glimpses of the animated character design, and people's reactions turned into a complete riot by the time the first trailer for Sonic movie dropped at the end of April.
Why is everyone unhappy? Well, one only needs to take a single look at Sonic to see that something is... off. The majority of people couldn't help but notice that their once beloved cartoonish hedgehog now has human-like anatomy that makes him look simply uncanny. The other feature that many couldn't overlook without freaking out is his teeth. Fans kept poking fun at the cartoon character, drawing comparisons, and creating hilariously funny memes.
The public outcry soon forced the creators to take another look at what they've created and soon enough, the director of the film, Jeff Fowler, made an announcement on Twitter. Fowler reassured fans that the creative team behind Sonic the Hedgehog takes fans seriously, and their message has been heard. He went on to confirm that they intend to change Sonic's design by finishing the tweet with a hashtag #gottafixfast

Sonic The Hedgehog game franchise was produced by Sega back in 1991 and it played a major role in many of today's millennial's childhoods. Sonic was created after the team of creators were requested to make a new mascot that would replace Alex Kidd and would also compete with Nintendo's mascot, Mario.
Usually, Sonic's main goal is to stop its antagonist, Doctor Eggman, who wants to dominate the world. In the new Sonic movie, the role of Doctor Eggman was given to Jim Carrey and many state that he might be the best part of the upcoming movie.
Back in March 2011, the Sonic series had sold 89 million physical copies and grossed more than $5 million by 2014. The Sonic game has also been listed more than once in lists of the greatest games of all time.
Once the trailer for the new Sonic movie was released, the Internet went absolutely wild. All of the social media platforms were filled with memes and comments about the terrible representation of this iconic character. Luckily, the creators quickly understood their mistake and changed it. Now everyone is waiting impatiently to see what will be changed in this character's appearance.
That’s not an insult. That’s why everyone works. The sonic looks terrible but please don’t ever think any big budget movie is ever made for any reason other than money. Avengers, Harry Potter, Pikachu, all those movies are made for money also.
Who would you rather give money: to a beggar who asks you politely for it, or to one who doesn't care and takes your money for granted? See the similarity?
Load More Replies...I don’t get how they can’t see that that isn’t Sonic. It just doesn’t look like him! I can accept a messed up story line or for eggman to not be egg shaped I guess, but you can’t just make sonic look like a ten year old human boy.
The combination of the two fan-corrections would be great. (body and face design)
Load More Replies...I'm impressed that the creators listened to the fan feedback, apologized, and have committed to making changes. Refreshing after being told by D&D that we were watching S8E3 of GOT all wrong...
I think they realized that if they DIDN'T appeal to the fans... nobody would watch the movie, and they'd lose a crapton of money.
Load More Replies...My 6 year old daughter mentioned this when we were watching the trailer. She kept saying "That's not sonic" "Why does he look weird?"
That design is horrible. Who okayed that? Why, at no point, did someone say; 'is this really the look we're going with? I don't think the fans will like it.' Geez... I mean, I get that they're trying to go with the 'Detective Pikachu' look, but they fell flat on their faces. They tried to make him too human, which is just disturbing.
How? How was this design approved? Just... how? I'm not a Sonic fan. I never even played the games. But even I know this is a very, very bad interpretation of that well known character. How can you possibly fail so much at recreating something that's been around for so long and is such a recognizable character? I'm sorry, I'm still baffled by this.
How to make a terrible Sonic movie: Step 1: Ignore the nearly 30 years of game and comic source material in favor of a generic origin story that has been done a thousand times before. Step 2: Instead of taking the time to adapt Eggman properly, hire Jim Carrey tho play Jim Carrey with a crappy moustache. Step 3: To hell with the iconic and beloved badnik designs, use rejected concept art from the Transformers and Terminator films Step 4: Play "Gangsta's Paradise" throughout the trailer because you have no idea what you're doing anymore. Step 5: Come up with a Sonic design so nightmare inducing that even his original creators hate it. Step 6: Ignore the overwhelmingly negative reaction to the teasers and release a trailer that makes thinks worse. Step 7: "Eggmobile? What Eggmobile?" Step 8: "Forget Tails, Knuckles, and Amy; let's hire the most forgettable version of Cyclops." Final Step: Pretend that you actually think releasing the movie is a good idea

I think one thing that is most disappointing (apart from that horrible design) is that Amy and Tails and all of the original gang won't be there
he should be more prestigious. why is he unknown and scampering around.
huge respect for creators of this movie to go back and redesign the character on audience's criticism... unlike the CRAPPY DISNEY who ruined Aladdin for me and didnt gave a sh*t to what audience had to say
If people only cared this much about the destruction of our democracy by Trump and his Administration.
it's not the creators' fault it's the one(s) who approved the design
They should just give up on a film that is already 25 years out of date anyway.
It's the nostalgia factor, the same force that drove the Transformers movies. The target audience is all the now-adults who grew up playing the game or watching the cartoons. And maybe they'll bring their kids.
