Man Tries To Capture A Lightning Storm Outside On Camera, Records The Scariest Moment Of His Life
When 38-year-old Daniel Modøl went outside to film a distant storm he didn’t expect it would get so close. He was safely standing on his terrace in Gjerstad, Aust-Agder, Norway and shooting lightning bolts flashing in the area. Nature, however, had planned something more.
While still in his flip-flops, Daniel witnessed a lightning strike leaving a crater in his backyard about 15-20 feet (4,5-6 meters) away from him. He wasn’t fast enough to record the near-instantaneous bolt, but he did document the aftermath.
Modøl decided to go back inside for the remainder of the storm. He found his ceiling fan off and burn marks all over the electrical outlet where his modem was. I’d say that’s a fair bargain, considering you just barely avoided getting blown to pieces.

When 38-year-old Daniel Modøl was filming a distant storm, he clearly wasn’t aware of nature’s plans
He was standing on his terrace, capturing lightning bolts in the horizon, but suddenly everything came a lot closer
While still in his flip-flops, Daniel witnessed a lightning strike leaving a crater in his backyard
He also documented the terrifying aftermath
And his video inspired people to share their close encounters with lightning storms as well
Remember people, if you hear the thunder within like 3 seconds of the light, the next bolt can be close enough to hit you. Make sure to go inside when that happens!
Lightning can strike 20 miles ahead of a storm. Thunder five seconds after a lightning strike means it's 1 mile away. Experts say that if you hear thunder, you're likely within striking distance!

We so rarely gets Thunder storms where I live but I still try to remember to stay inside, I think I've sat under my front porch once or twice. It's a good thing I have some sense of self-preservation or I would have been struck by lightning by now

When I was six I lived in an old farmhouse with the unusual property that the fuse box for the house was in the bathroom, right beside the toilet. I was taking a leak like boys do when lightning hit the house. An arc of electricity jumped from the fuse box to my left shoulder, down my arm and out my hand. To this day I feel fortunate that I am right handed.
Jeeej, norwegians FTW! We almost never have lightning, so this is pretty damn rare. Hurra for norge på boredpanda! ;)
Last year, around this time, I was outside in my backyard with my two sisters. We were standing on our balcony watching a storm, about 20 feet away was out Zip Line. I wish I could have recorded the lighting strike it. The wire was bright red for a second then the wire was black and it snapped. :( And the noise was deafening, I was in shock for like 3 minutes after I could barely breath I was TERRIFIED.
Here is my story. There was a huge storm in the middle of the night. Our family was asleep and all. Then BAM!! Lightning struck our swimming pool. It was extremely bright and very loud. I imaging the water could have amplified the light or whatever. I really believed I died(I was 7. cut me some slack). My heart was about to burst. Worst way to wake up. The second time, lightning struck somewhere in the street, but any type of metal shot out sparks a few metres out. The metal railing of a curtain created a spark and shocked my mother. She says that it also shot out of her thumb.
The water reflecting the light would not have made any perceivable difference. The lightning bolt really was that bright. It's the same as instead of someone taking your picture with a flash from a few feet away, they held the camera flash directly in front of your face.

I was with my siblings and some friends hanging on the benches under the roof of our local library. Suddenly a storm hit so loud and bright that my vision, for a moment, jumped up. Literally, like the image on an analogue tv screen when the signal makes the screen jump up and down, or ehen there's a bug in the video, or something. Apparently it wasn't too close, though, since there were no craters or fires nearby afterwards. Still it was impressive.
I mean, not a storm that hit, it was a lightening strike. Otherwise, the rain and the wind were not that much.
