This is Ame, her dog Gigi, and Gloria, a van project that she committed herself to after a personal tragedy
Here’s the story in her own words: “So I came across the idea of tiny living and van life on YouTube almost 3 years ago, and I fell in love with it. I found van life when I was at a very low point in my life, my grandma (who I was extremely close to) had just died and it made me realize that life is simply too short to live to pay bills, I wanted life to be an adventure! So by living in a van I figured I could be debt-free, I could live everywhere and anywhere (adventure!), and be almost entirely self-sufficient, which is incredible, especially in today’s world.”
Let us invite you to Ame’s home
She has a working sink and a stove
Ame’s also supplied herself with tons of cupboards and a charging station
This cool little nook can turn into a shower
In case you wondered how she can power all that, she has a hidden water supply below the floor
What is the Meaning of Van Life?
Van life, as championed by amazing folk like Amelise Burr, is all about choosing a life on the road and living in a van. People who dive into a lifestyle like that are after a unique kind of freedom. They want to break free from the usual routines and experience the thrill of discovering new places every day.
Imagine waking up to birds chirping in one breathtaking spot and then watching the sunset from a completely different, equally stunning location. Utilizing your DIY life hacks to improve your days. All of that in the comfort of your own home. Plus, it’s a chance to meet new people, share stories, and learn from different cultures. It’s a lifestyle that’s all about adventure, self-discovery, and the thrill of the open road!

… And she installed a solar panel
And last but not least, her Queen bedroom
“I’m used to living in my van now, however, I still can’t believe that I finally finished the van build (and that I did it entirely myself!) and that I’m living the life I dreamt about 3 years ago. My van (and my life) really is everything I hoped it would be. It’s the cheapest yet best way I’ve ever lived, I’m in love with it.”
She can feel proud with what she has accomplished, and she is
“Van life for me is about getting back to the beauty of life, the world is so fast-paced and structured so strictly that life can end up feeling somewhat like a prison and I didn’t want that anymore. Van life for some people is about traveling, for others it’s a movement, a stand against rising house prices, cost of living, and increasingly unfree society. Tiny living, in my opinion, is a movement towards a new world, a more beautiful world.”
Here’s how she’s done it
The most challenging thing to install was my diesel heater (to be honest, this was mostly because it was raining and I didn’t want to go under the van in the rain)! I haven’t thought about quitting whilst living in my van, but during the van build I had so many moments where I didn’t want to do it anymore because it can be such a mental challenge building a van by yourself, but I knew that I wouldn’t actually quit.
Ame bought a Ford Transit for £5,000 GBP
She stripped it all off, and got to work
Is It a Good Idea to Live in a Van?
Deciding if living in a van can be a significant step into the unknown. You have to know as much as possible before leaping forward to make the experience safe and welcoming. While a carefully laid out plan might not need it, you should research various life-saving facts to keep yourself well. For now, though, let’s focus on things that make such a lifestyle attractive first:
- Freedom is one of the core parts of our lives; it makes us feel alive and brings us the closest to comprehension of life.
- No rent is definitely a bonus. Of course, you still need a budget for utilities, permits, food, etc., but compared to rent, it’s not that much.
- No fixed living space means you can spend your time in different places all over the world.
- New views every day can bring that peaceful vibe of nature into your life, while still providing the comfort of your own home.
- New people on every corner can make a great stage for expanding your social life with new and exciting characters.
Like with anything, there are always drawbacks. Before setting out on this challenging yet rewarding adventure, consider these factors:
- Structure and discipline will guide your way and life on your own, which will require much work and determination.
- Not all places are welcoming life in a van, so you’ll have to research your campsites thoroughly.
- Being alone might fit some people’s lifestyle, but if you prefer to have the company of close family and friends regularly, life on the road might not be for you.
- Safety is almost guaranteed when living in a fixed place, as all the services are nearby. While in a van, you’ll move regularly, so quick access to medical assistance won’t be possible.
There are a few other things to think about before jumping into life in a van. While it’s super freeing, it’s also essential to be organized and plan well. Space can be limited, so you must think creatively about what to bring along. Forget about spacious kitchens and utilize various cooking hacks, and so on. Most importantly, keep your safety first.
So, while there are some challenges, many people, just like Amelise Burr, find it a fantastic way to live life to the fullest and enjoy every single second of it!
The wooden panels cost only £14 GBP
“I’m about to screw something up”
All of the extra stuff cost her additioinal £2,000 GBP, which is very cheap, all things considered
In terms of her own life, Ame has made her bed, both literally and figuratively
“I’m currently traveling around France and I want to take my van anywhere and everywhere, my goal is eventually America.I’ve recently travelled through the South of France, which was incredible, you get to stay in places with million-dollar views for free!
I’d say that life is what you make it, van life isn’t fundamentally glamorous or perfect, however that doesn’t mean that you can’t make everything else around living in a van like that. I like to have fun and I made my van with that in mind. You can be completely glamourous whilst living in a van, absolutely. But van life is the same as normal living, life is what you make it, some people like to be more glam, others not so much. Life shouldn’t be about conventional rules and labels, live life by your own rules, that’s what I love about van life, it’s a life with more freedom.”

Share on FacebookSo just to challenge my own assumptions, I went to her blog and read the whole thing. There is absolutely NOTHING in there, not a single word, about HOW she did anything. She just creates lists of every branded item she used. And that's what she says, "I used item A, B, C." I installed product X, Y, Z." Doesn't talk about any methods, any obstacles, how she achieved anything, how she finished a single surface, nothing. So I stand by my original assumption that she's completely full of you know what.

Load More Replies...That girl didn't put in a single screw in by herself. There's no way you can have overalls THAT clean when you do actual work. I only see one singe type of power tool, no saw, no ruler, not even a hammer in sight! I call BS on this one!
Even though i can see why you doubt since the photos are too perfect just for Instagram i wonder if you would also doubt if a guy was holding this one type of tool! Or in this case we would say that of course he did everything by himself and we wouldn't need to see all the tools he used
Load More Replies...Glamour shots with power tools. She did it herself? Why do I find myself doubting this so much.

I see a lot of model posing and zero work being done. Knowing how complicated it is to achieve some of those finishes (as a woman who has both succeeded and failed at this kind of thing myself), I'm sorry, I absolutely do not believe she achieved all of that by herself with no experience. Holding a drill for photos is not convincing. Nobody can achieve all the building, use of power tools, the plumbing and the electrics with zero experience and have everything come out perfect, whatever the gender. I call shenanigans on this one. Instagram-attention-seeking.
I’ve seen my boyfriend do it drunk, high on god knows what and he’s not that smart 😆 he posed with his model/gym bod the same way and no one gave him slack like they did this chick, literally he posed like a model before building the room and everyone’s like wow 😯 cos he’s a big strong looking man who appears to look like a pro 😝 he had 0 idea and experience. He just wanted to see it he could do it.
Load More Replies...I don't understand why people put all of that time and effort into a campervan but don't put in a toilet, not even a portable cartridge toilet. At least she can pee in the shower if she had to, but sometimes you've gotta go #2 and it's not always convenient (or possible) to go outside. I read an article from another woman that built a campervan and she excluded a toilet too "Well, I'm using it for camping, I'll just go in the woods", then she took it to a barren campground with little vegetation, and lots of neighbors, so there was no place to get any privacy to take care of it. She ended up having to poop into a baggie in her RV, and said she was already planning on adding a portable toilet.
It looks amazing! Please remember to tie hair back when working with power tools people! No one wants to be scalped
Yeah dudes, cause it’s impossible that she did staged shoots for instagram or whatever. No, she’s cute so she definitely did not do anything requiring tools. Her cuteness obviously means her hands are not functional at all. That’s definitely an unbreakable law and not a dumb sexist opinion. I swear nothing in this world brings out the haters quite like a woman doing absolutely anything 😒

The one I had years ago broke down just as I was leaving my dad's in Spain and heading back to the UK.....had to spend an extra week parked up outside a garage till they could rebuild the engine. I was so chilled out from having a year off though to build it and tour in it round europe by that stage that it wasn't that stressful a deal - well other than it ending up costing 850 euros to sort out, but I knew I had my military pensions going in to cover my monthly costs, so even the stress of that was minimal because I knew I'd got money coming in whilst i sat on my ass. (Stressed the hell out of the girl who'd flown out to spain the week earlier to spend a bit of t ime with me though who ended up being late home by a week planned)
Load More Replies...Guys she literally has time lapse videos of her converting the van herself on her YouTube lol. Don't be mad because she looks good doing it. And maybe she took the time to clean up for the photos. If you watch her videos and everything she does and the way she edits it, she's definitely not afraid to put work in to things. This girl is awesome.
She lives her desired life, just like the haters like to hate. I don't care about her perfect clean working outfit, I do care about her prestine outfits and looks, I don't like little dogs, but hey, who am I?? Love you Amélise. Keep doing what you do. Thanks 4 that
I’m loving the insecure comments 😂 people fear any woman who is capable, competent and looking glamorous whilst achieving 😂 I’d hate to be that small and insecure to hate on someone, who could potentially be an awesome friend and who picked herself up from depression.
I know some women who live in their regular small cars, there is not have much that can be modified. Anyhow, great idea!
If this were a man, there would be zero question if he did it or not. Sexism is alive and well in the comment section.
I like the van and the effort with that, but it just seems like a fashion shoot...
