70 years after the Liberation of the city of Ravenna from Nazi-fascist oppression, the best way to thank the women and men who fought for our freedom during the Second World War is to take them to today's Ravenna.

I really like this photo. The numerous cycles people use today to travel portraying a seemingly normal life and the soldiers in their uniforms with destruction and carnage behind them makes this pic a lovely oxymoron.

I well remember my trip around Italy, back during the Cold War. Italy is unique because it cherished its Medieval heritage. Like most cities, it was walled for protection, and had several old gates. I remember Porta Nuova because it stood out by itself when everything around it had been destroyed, in defeating the Nazis. I majored in history at the Citadel, and had a field day in Italy. Here's what Porta Nuova used to look look like in the Old Days before Garibaldi changed things. I travelled from here back to Florence and then to Pisa where I stayed at another hostel which was my favourite one. I stayed a couple of days wondering around eating in the restaurants and cafes and making more new travelling friends from around the world. Then travelled home to London but I did get stranded another day because of a glitch with BAs computer system. It wasn't all bad a trip and I wouldn't mind doing it all again around the city of Rome.

They play live music in this pizza. There's usually a busker and when I was there there was a big classical concert where the tall stage and rows of folding chairs were set up for the concert that evening.

I took abwalkbover here with Sarah to eat at a mobile resturand. There were some bill boards of fishermen and work men from the area displayed and a broken time mosaic chair to sit and pose in and take pictures. It was on Sarah's last day in Ravenna.i stayed another day and would get a coach out if there to a station to get to Florence...ibhad travelled into Ravenna by train and out by coach because there must have a problem with the train line or was it because my brother in law had picked me up from another station and brought me to Ravenna... it's a bit blurry now. Greatbadventurerous times.
