catrina is the nickname that a newspaper give to dead in 1910 something like that i cant remember , it was a social critic cartoon that talk about how in Mexico at that time rich people used to walk around the city with they best dresses and jewels while outside churches farmers were begging for money because the government and the catholic church instead of helping the poor they give more privileges to the rich while farmers died of starvation because the government took the land of thousand of farmers leaving them poor and homeless. mexicans use the catrina image in the day of the death (October 31, November 1 and November 2) is a celebration in Mexico to remember those that are not longer alive, in those days people go to the cemetery visit they love ones graves to drop flowers and some do a "altar" which is an adorn table with the picture of the love one and his/her favorite food & drink and candles to invite the spirit and "pan de muerto" (dead bread) and sugar skulls for kids
