I have been there. Including the quarry from which the Moai were cut, and some that were abandoned or broken in transit, and including numerous restored sites where they were erected in their original places, complete, and others where they remained fallen and not restored. None appeared like this, and if this site existed, it was not visited despite a rather extensive tour of the entire island led by a native expert in the subject. The original Moai were set up facing inland, not out. Those shown facing out, buried in the earth, are those abandoned at the quarry site that had not been set up yet. I would not presume to claim the photograph is faked, but if such a moai exists, it is in a vast minority, and wherever it is, it is not commonly seen by tourists.

So THAT'S why they don't topple over
