People Were Laughing At Lady Gaga’s Red-Carpet-Look Fail Until She Explained Why She Wore It
Once again Lady Gaga has lit up the internet with her fashion choice, but this outfit is a far cry from a meat dress – so what’s all the fuss about? For Elle Magazine’s 25th Women in Hollywood event, held in Los Angeles, Gaga showed up in a more than oversized, Marc Jacobs suit with her hair in a simple low bun and as per usual, the look represented a powerful statement.
During her speech, she explained that after trying on 10 or so dresses the suit caught her eye “buried quietly in the corner” and brought her to tears. She explained that at 19 she was sexually assaulted by someone in the entertainment industry and by wearing this suit she was taking her power back, “In this suit, I felt the truth of who I am well up in my gut.”
Well, the internet is a cruel place and those who failed to hear her speech missed the suite’s significance entirely. Twitter turned the outfit into memes and compared her to NBA player’s off-court suits. If we had to take a guess Gaga could not care less what these people think. She will continue to make bold fashion statements for the causes she believes in, or in her word, “Be a helping hand. Be a force for change.” Scroll down below to read her moving speech and responses from the haters and tell us your thoughts!

Share on Facebookthe skeptic few would've thought 'oh she's wearing something that'll really stand out and she'll get all the attention blah blah blah', truth is she had a message to say and wearing that would get peoples attention and her message would then keep their attention. So a difficult thing handled with great care, well done.
Focus on who we are, not what we wear. Cover doesn't make a book.
FINALLY someone corrects this oh-too-common mistake. Thank you. :-)
Load More Replies...I don't know what all the hoo ha was about. She ROCKS that suit. The fabric is gorgeous - I'm guessing a cashmere/silk blend, and the colour looks amazing on her. I wish I could wear that colour. ...///... Anyone who wants to bad mouth the suit should watch a few Katharine Hepburn movies. The suit channels that look perfectly.
No idea why anyone would downvote this. I agree 100%. She looks amazing in that suit. Women in suits should happen more often. What's the big deal with dresses, anyway?
Load More Replies...It's because we're getting old. That was my first thought, too.
Load More Replies...I wonder what all the people criticizing her wear day in and day out? People need to stop being so judgemental towards other people. Mind your own business, take care of yourself and stop the negativity.
I frikkin love that woman! Couldn't name one of her songs though- they are not for me. But I still love her!
I really like this woman. She is a thinker. She definitely knows how to put across a message. Plus it's true the could wear a bin liner and look amazing. Respect
I actually thought she looked amazing before I read why she wore the suit. Women don't have to wear dresses to be fabulous. Rock on Ms. Gaga!
Why are we always judging women by what they wear? Lady GAGA is a singer. Judge her by her voice. Duh.
First, I happen to have loved the look. Second, she is truly stunning; talent, looks, intelligence, but most of all, her heart and soul.
Lady Gaga speaks from her soul and is a leader of women everywhere.I admire her as an artist and an honest person for women.
Respect. I'm not a big fan of her music but what a brave and powerful speach! 💪Using your voice and power to put a spotlight on some very important issues. Respect. You wear the pants! 👊
I like her message... Here's my thing with everyone bringing the #metoo up all the time. I am also a victim of rape and molestation. It happened many moons ago. I have now gotten to a point that I don't think about it 24/7, until the me too movement came around. Now with the media constantly shoving it in my face everyday, I'm back to thinking about it almost everyday. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for stopping the people doing this, but, like I said being reminded everyday is rough.
It looks cool IMO, at least it's different and interesting, not another gown ya know? The meaning behind it makes it even better,
Firstly, even before seeing this article, I thought the suit was beautiful. It is so rare to see women in entertainment actually being covered up at these events...and she looked amazing while doing so. I am so perturbed that people took it onto themselves to mock what she was wearing. Isn't this what Stefani has always been about? Making waves, going outside the box? Isn't this what fashion is all about....giving people a means in which to express themselves as individuals? She is such a beautiful person...inside and out. She has such a big heart and soul, and for people to be so petty and vile...humanity disgusts me so much sometimes.
I wish I could just give you a fat motherly hug FIGHT BACK! You are a lovely person! Love from South Africa!
To be honest, I would make an excellent housewife. I love that role, cleaning and cooking and the like. But damn, what I wouldn't give to wear a tuxedo at weddings or events. I'm not a very political person at all, and I enjoy wearing dresses on my casual time off. But at formal events, I feel... like it means something different. It's not a choice. It's an obligation of society- not that all those are bad, but it seems without proper reason, besides being born with female genitals. When I was younger, I fought TOOTH and NAIL not to wear them. It made me sad inside. I don't hate dresses, I hate how they're "used".
For the commenter that said "Men's wear for women has always been in fashion. At least since women are working men's jobs" completely misses the point and diminishes what she has chosen to draw attention to, I'm also dying to know which jobs are men's? Lady Gaga uses her position to stand for everyone and should always be applauded for those brave enough to do it!
I looked for a list of people who laughed....nope, not a single one mentioned. NO ONE LAUGHED. Gaga LOOKS FANTASTIC. But that's beside the point, her message is sensational and heartfelt.
I think this outfit is on the mild side for Gaga. But she looks stupendous, like always.
Charlize is looking a little hot for Gaga in that photo! Saucy minxes!
I knew it was something deeper! She's really strong and she rocks everything that she wears...I even thought this suit really suits her! Cool and strong at the same time!
Blindfold, check, last meal, delicious, final cigarette, lit and up against the wall I go. Start down voting boys and girls! Lady Gaga has been following in Madonna's publicity-seeking footsteps in her quest for stardom since her inception. The "meat dress", the thong bikini with spikes up her butt crack, the list goes on and on, ad nauseum. She is an amazing singer, a true chanteuse with natural talent. Unfortunately, you can only cry "wolf" so many times before no one listens. As happened with Madonna 's incident where Sean Penn was accused of kidnapping and assaulting her, (she was found tied up in a closet). Let Gaga stick to her kinky-sex costuming choices, her on- and off-stage theatrics, but, please don't get on the bandwagon unless you are willing to provide evidence of being harmed. She has been given plenty of attention with her new movie which is coming out. She does not need to dilute #MeToo any further than is has been already. She should keep her antics on the stage.
I try really hard not to respond to trolls, but there is so much wrong with your post, I can’t ignore it. Because she has worn “kinky sex costuming” you say she has “cried wolf so many times” and now “nobody listens”. You demand proof for an assault that left no proof. You seem to believe that any woman deemed “attention seeking” cannot be raped. Shame on you.
Load More Replies...The truly sad part is, it won't change, poeple in power will always exploit those without. It's human nature.
And, you know she's lying how? Please, can't wait to see what inside knowledge you possess.
Load More Replies...That's not what she said. Comprehension is your friend.
Load More Replies...What does cosmetic surgery have to do with being assaulted? Her body, her choice. Also, do you know she did, and which parts, or is it just a judgement of your own you based on the difference in her face compared to the past? If the second is true, then it might be just aging and make up... But, really, who cares anyway.
Load More Replies...Does not alter the fact she was assaulted at a young age and it's still with her today.
