My Son Doesn’t Want To Cuddle Anymore So I Knit A Cuddly Version Of Him
I am a professional knitter who likes to knit cool things for my brand Club Geluk. We knit realistic everyday stuff with lots of details and even wrote a couple of books about it. We knit hams, TV’s, plants – all sorts of funny and unique design things. To set the bar a little higher regarding my knitting skills, I thought of knitting my son. He liked it, and we worked together on it.
The reactions during the process were so diverse – from creepy to beautiful – that we decided to take some photos of this impersonation in real life to place the weirdness in context. It was a fun art family art project!
When it was finished we thought it would be a great idea for mothers with to much love for their children and need to cuddle. So they could knit there own cuddly pillow son! My knitted son consists of: a knitted head with a cap, hands with nails and watch, knitted trousers, a knitted sweater with an obstinate slogan, knitters sneakers, and knitted iPod. Actually, the knitting pattern has characteristics of both my sons. The other one had just grown so much during the process that the smaller one was only able to wear it when it was finished.

Share on FacebookDon't think it's exactly healthy to hold that kind of connection to your son. They grow up and you as a parent have to learn how to move on.
Be nice, guys. This is clearly an artistic endeavor that mother and son found amusing and creative, and a good way to bond - and perhaps an insightful commentary on what it is like to be a parent watching a child grow up. Post less negative stuff here, spend more time with your own kids or parents.
My thoughts exactly. Please, people, read the article. You end up with a different impression about this whole thing than when you read just the title.
Load More Replies...My first thought when I read the title was "creepy". Then I read the article and actually your explanation was clear, this is a fun project that you actually made in the continuity of something you already did, and it was also a "family project" including the son itself ! So it doesn't sound weird anymore, it's just what it is : a fun and strange family project.
haha. :) This is tongue in cheek, people. Read between the lines. This artist obviously has a sense of humor, and is really going for the weird and far out here. Kudos, I say!
A bit weird. Sorry. Great knitting skills but still creepy. Time to loosen the grip mom.
While I find the image to be very creepy looking, it seems the mom and son had a good time in the project and that's all that matters
This is actually terrifying to me. I know what I’ll see in my nightmares tonight l
So strange, all the time its not healthy. these days all kids completely changed :(
What the heck?? Why would someone do this to their child? What if their friends come over and see the thing sitting there string at you? What are you supposed to do? Be like, aw dude that's super, uh, that's super cool...... I guess..... And the people saying to sop judging her, I did read the article, and it's still weird to me. Just saying...
Pretty impressive to knit something that hits the uncanny valley (which explains the strong reactions).
Aawww, that is so sweet, I know you love him, he'll always be around, be sure of that <3
I believe they (her and her son) are doing this as a joke.....I really dont think shes forcing her son to wear a knitted outfit so she can continue to cuddle him. I doubt a teenager would have put up with this photo shoot if he didn't find it funny as well
Artists throughout time have been judged (my daughters and I included). If she can't handle the criticism then I suggest she either shouldn't be an artist or she should keep her art private. It is just part of the trade. Criticism grows you as an artist if you take criticism correctly. For those telling people to keep their opinions to themselves...ask yourself if being the nanny honestly helps the world in the long term.
What if she doesn't want to ??? That is none of your concern so I advice you to stop poking your beak in other people's business.
