Knight Industries Two Thousand a.k.a. KITT. Every 80s’ kid has heard about it and many of them dreamed of having it.
Brief history:
Popular TV show aired from 1982 to 1986. What you may not know about KITT is that originally it was Datsun 280ZX which was supposed to be the main hero car. But after Pontiac presented their brand new Trans Am in 1982 creators of the show decided to use this futuristic appearing car at the very last moment. Time has shown that it was an excelent choice. People loved this car – whether the tv star or the actual model. Trans Am was breaking selling records. Everybody desired for black KITT with the light “scanner” bar above the front grill – which Pontiac unfortunatelly couldn’t provide, leaving lots of demands unfulfilled.
Of course it wasn’t just KITT who made the TV show popular. IMHO there is no need to describe the main actor – David Hasselhoff, because everybody knows David Hasselhoff!
After four original seasons, there was an attemp to make more seasons but ended up just as a pilot movie – “Knight Rider 2000”. New modernized TV show followed in 2008 (Pontiac Trans Am was replaced by Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR) but wasn’t really successful comparing to its predecessor (not mentioning the sequel TV show from 1997 called “Team Knight Rider”).
KNIGHT RIDER WILL BE BACK!
It is no more a rumor that we will see KITT on screen once again. This time as a feature film, inspired by the original TV show. Will we see ’82 Trans Am and David Hasselhoff? We don’t know yet. According to Deadline.com the project already has some names revealed –
director: James Wan (Aquaman, Saw, Fast & Furious 7)
screenplay: TJ Fixman (a former video game writer).
For further details we need to wait a little bit more.
