Younger siblings are great. Well, for some people at least. Others aren't quite so convinced however, like this bunch of unhappy kids for example. As you can see from the list below, compiled by Bored Panda, while the arrival of a new brother or sister heralds a new era of fun and excitement for certain children, especially kids who don't have anybody to play with, some kids see a new family member as nothing more than an uninvited stranger who they're forced to share their parent's affection with. I'm a middle child. Older sister got away with things because "She's older, she must be more responsible", & got things like graduation gifts because it was a first for the family. Younger brother got away with things since he was the baby & "needed protection". Because of this I had to work for affection. Grandma even said "you're sister's my favorite because she was the first born; your brothers my second favorite because he's a boy & the baby.... I guess I love you because you are talented & do things like art". I did grow up in an abusive household though so that could alter things a bit from the norm. Either way, I was the only child that was beaten (for things like I wouldn't go to the store to get them milk; I made my brother cry for not playing video games with him when I had homework to do; etc)

Have you ever been to a baby shower? It's always blue or pink if the gender is known. It doesn't mean they have to be a stereotypical boy. Don't put so much meaning into balloon colors.

Ok!!! I have to be totally honest with all of you. I have 6 kiddos, ranging from 23-10. I can tell you HONESTLY that my kiddos wanted every single sibling they got. In fact, when it had been a year or so, the older kids would start asking if "Daddy & I" we're going to have more babies. If you treat it like it's a big deal and never let the older siblings be involved, than it WILL be a big deal, and NOT in a good way. We let our older kids change diapers, help feed and dress WITHOUT hanging over their shoulders and we allowed them to connect. We never acted like it might be a problem or that they would have to "share" mommy and daddy. Everyone needs to stop acting like it SHOULD be a bad thing, and instead teach your kiddos that they ARE NOT the center of the universe and to welcome, with much love, and NO jealously, their new sibling that will be in their lives for always.

Could someone please explain this middle child thingy to me? It has never appeared to me that the middle child has an inferior role...rather that the older ones complain that the youngee ones are allowed things they weren't at that age.

As a middle child, the general perception is that the older sibling gets a lot of attention for being first born, the younger sibling gets spoilt as the baby of the family, and the middle child has so special role at all, so they are often overlooked

Maybe unpopular opinion, actually yeah unpopular opinion- parents should consider if their other kids want a sibling. Maybe bring up if they want one in a convo idk. I mean poor kids who look scared. Yeash adults are in charge but please consider the kids.
