Clever Teacher Puts Cycling Machines Under Her Students’ Desks To Get Them To Focus

Sitting through a whole hour-long class without fidgeting is tough. Especially when you’re a kid and that class is maths. Luckily, a math teacher from Wake County may have found a solution.

Bethany Lambeth has placed cycling machines under her students’ desks to get them to stop fidgeting and start focusing. “Before they were drumming on their desks, they were touching other people, they don’t do that anymore,” Lambeth said. “Their feet are getting the movement out. There has been a huge increase in the quality of our student’s work and a decrease in the amount of missing work.” The best part? The students are enjoying it! “It keeps me exercising and focused,” one student said. While another, who pedaled 5.5 miles and burned 133 calories before 10 a.m, said: “I’m a really energetic person, so this takes all my energy out.”

Each desk cycle costs around $150, but if it gets kids focused, it’s a small price to pay, right?

Wow, that's quite an investment! I like the idea too. And now imagine if they're generating additional electricity for the school while pedalling - everybody wins.

Would love to see real studies about this method (before internet got too excited about it)

But I'm sure the constant whirring of the wheels spinning would get pretty annoying

Boa, this would drive me nuts - as teacher as well as student. There must be better outlets for the physical energy of children than making them pedal in math class!

Looks smart at first. And then you realize that it illustrates some of the many things that are just wrong with schools. I guess classroom hamster wheels are better than diagnosing everyone as hyperactive and sedating them, right? Not criticizing the teacher here, she's simply doing the best she can within the environment she's in.

I have some students in my classes that could really benefit from this. Too bad I don't have

Although the constant whirring of the wheels spinning would help you focus

I have some students in my classes that could really benefit from this. To bad I don't have $5400.00 to spend on stuff like this 😞
