Man Spends 3 Days Making $15,000 LEGO Statue, Child Destroys It In Seconds

Exhibitions are pretty cool. Especially the interactive ones. But one kid took the hands-on concept a little too far when he accidentally trashed a $15,000 LEGO sculpture at an Expo in Ningbo, China.

The cool sculpture was a giant fox figurine of Nick Wilde, one of Zootopia’s characters. The artist, named Zhao, spent three long days and nights meticulously piecing the life-size Disney character together from thousands of lego bricks, but it only took the kid seconds to destroy when he accidentally pushed the work of art over just one hour after the exhibition opened in a shopping mall. He’d climbed under the security ropes to get a closer look at the cartoon character and, well, he obviously got a little TOO close! His parents offered to compensate Zhao but the artist declined and gracefully accepted that the incident was simply an unfortunate accident. After all, what kid wouldn’t want to play with that amount of LEGO?

Artist Zhao spent 3 long days working on a giant Zootopia LEGO sculpture

What can go wrong with the security ropes around the sculpture?

An hour after the exhibition opened, it looked like this

Putting a $15K exhibit in a "shopping mall" was asking for trouble in the first place. But... parents just don't bother to look after their kids. I see it every day. Kids destroying things, kids running around when they should be standing in line waiting for a train... accidents waiting to happen and parents just standing there talking to each other or on the phone. Then they want to sue when things go south

The kid must've accidentally done it when the parents weren't looking. I would've gotten such a punishment back in the day if I did that. That's kids for you. Look away for 5 seconds & bam, Murphy's Law. But hey, as a kid, you do at least one dumb thing like that. I don't know one childhood friend who didn't do something stupid like that & ruins somebody's day. Regardless if the parents are at fault for allowing it or the kid itself is to blame for disobeying his parents: You will do & have done at least one stupid thing like this as a kid. Doesn't matter what generation yer from. :-)

My mum taught me not to play with other people toys without consent. Parents today are a bunch of retards without no one respect with the other around. Try to shop this days when all parents are more concentrate in the shelves and leave their kids screaming their head off disturbing everyone who is trying to shop in peace. Not respect at all to the people around. Just an advice, If people are not ready to be a competent parent , please shut your bloody legs.

That a Lego statue built in 3 days is valued at $15,000 shows what an effed up world we live in. Should parents control their brats? YES, but Legos are hardly a dead gorilla. This statue was kid bait and, as such, should have child-resistant barriers around it. Such a no-brainer.

This is a similar negligence on the parents' part as for the toddler who fell into the moat in the gorilla compound in Cincinnati. Where were the parents, and what were they looking at when they should have kept an eye on their kid ? Ultimately, the Mom and Dad are responsible for anything that their child does.

hey come on now, stop blaming the parents. Accidents happen. You don't know the full story - there could be plenty of reasons why their eyes were off the child for a few seconds. They wanted to pay the artist for the piece and I'm sure the child was disciplined.

im pretty sure we are talking about 2-3 year old kid.. it doesnt understand what he/she was doing.. and kids in this age are very hard to look after.. you turn your head away from them and they disappear.. so dont blame the kid or the parents, blame the person who thought that security rope is all you need, not some sort of security fence..

"His parents offered to compensate Zhao but the artist declined and gracefully accepted that the incident was simply an unfortunate accident". This guy is sooooo cool. When I saw the heading, I like totally scrolled down to see what he did to the kid. Bummer!!

PARENTS KEEP YOUR KIDS UNDER CONTROL! TEACH THEM TO RESPECT OTHER PEOPLES PROPERTY! This is what's wrong in the world, people growing up thinking they can do whatever they want whenever they want.

Methyl Ethyl Ketone would have prevented that. Applied to the statue it would've fused it. Applied to the children...... Well in any case it would've helped!

That a Lego statue built in 3 days is valued at $15,000 shows what an effed up world we live in. Should parents control their brats? YES, but Legos are hardly a dead gorilla. This statue was kid bait and, as such, should have child-resistant barriers around it. Such a no-brainer.

I agree with the responsibility of the parents but at the same time the person who built that sculpture should have been standing right there paying attention to what's going on cause if it were me who made something like that I would never leave that area.

You never know, perhaps the exhibitors were told not to stand by their pieces so that people can admire them.

Even tho the artist turned down the payment from the parents, I would have insisted on paying him, or made a donation for his fave charity.. and MY kid would have consequences at home!! Parents need to teach right and wrong and not think they 're stunting their childrens' creativity and growth by allowing them to live in anarchy.

This is a similar negligence on the parents' part as for the toddler who fell into the moat in the gorilla compound in Cincinnati. Where were the parents, and what were they looking at when they should have kept an eye on their kid ? Ultimately, the Mom and Dad are responsible for anything that their child does.

Well, it's made of LEGO, so it wasn't literally destroyed I guess? Couldn't the artist just reassemble it? Although it must be hell getting 3 days of work trashed in an instant!

hey come on now, stop blaming the parents.

Mike Olson

Um, no. Security rope IS all you need. If you cant keep an eye on kids then dont have them.

In what world is that worth 15k? Such a shame though, but I don't think the kid 'destroyed' it. It's top heavy (weak ankles) so it probably just fell over with a slight touch and shattered on the floor.
