Man Spends 3 Days Making $15,000 LEGO Statue, Child Destroys It In Seconds
Exhibitions are pretty cool. Especially the interactive ones. But one kid took the hands-on concept a little too far when he accidentally trashed a $15,000 LEGO sculpture at an Expo in Ningbo, China.
The cool sculpture was a giant fox figurine of Nick Wilde, one of Zootopia’s characters. The artist, named Zhao, spent three long days and nights meticulously piecing the life-size Disney character together from thousands of lego bricks, but it only took the kid seconds to destroy when he accidentally pushed the work of art over just one hour after the exhibition opened in a shopping mall. He’d climbed under the security ropes to get a closer look at the cartoon character and, well, he obviously got a little TOO close! His parents offered to compensate Zhao but the artist declined and gracefully accepted that the incident was simply an unfortunate accident. After all, what kid wouldn’t want to play with that amount of LEGO?
Artist Zhao spent 3 long days working on a giant Zootopia LEGO sculpture
What can go wrong with the security ropes around the sculpture?
An hour after the exhibition opened, it looked like this

Share on Facebooks****y parents, spoiling their kids. If i did that as a kid i would have gotten a beating of a life because i ruined someones work, was an uncivilized idiot for passing the barricade, and embarrassed my parents.
You wouldn't have done it anyway because our generation knew better!! We knew the limits and respected it. I fear for the future of humanity :(
Load More Replies...Bull. I knew a lot of bad kids growing up. That's like saying crime didn't exist in the past because we knew the limits an respected it. The only difference between now and then is that bad behavior is splashed all across the internet.
Thinking about it, it's OUR generation who are rising these s****y childs. We weren't that good after all. :P
So you're saying the kids of your generation were perfect little angels who did nothing wrong? Wow.
Yeah, and if you were a kid, would you appreciate it if someone said that to you? I don't think so. That is very offensive to some kids.
When I was about seven, I was taken to a state house. There was a lot of antique furniture on display, and because of its high value, there was security rope. In one of the rooms, there was a beautiful grandfather clock, and because I wanted to get a closer look, I slipped underneath when my mum turned to speak to my dad, just for a moment. Of course, I set off the alarms, and a guard had to be called. The staff were very understanding, but I still remember the sheer guilt I felt that night, for breaking that rule, and almost getting my parents into trouble, too. The article doesn't seem to mention the age of the child, but what if they had been a toddler? Or very young? Parents can't keep a constant vigilance on their kids, and sometimes it really does take just a minute. Children don't usually understand the long-term consequences of their actions, anyway. Apparently the parents offered to compensate the artist for the damage, but the artist refused.
Parents can't keep a constant vigilance on their kids, and sometimes it really does take just a minute. - that is the TRUTH!
Geez people, relax. It's a kid. At least the artist is significantly more chill than the internet lynch-machine.
More like crappy parents; the irresponsible keepers of human WMDs.

"accidentally pushed it" "climbed under the security ropes" Uhm... so where were the parents to tell their kid not to cross the security ropes, they're there to avoid things like this.... -_-
parents were busy finding a zoo they can take them to - to play with the gorillas.
may updating sts about them visiting the lego expo :p while the little monster was busy crossing the security ropes :D
Didn't you know, art, gorillas, it's NEVER the parent's fault. Accidents happen.
At least it wasn't a giant statue of a gorilla. We know how that would have ended with the Lego's getting shot.
The great tradgery of our times is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are breeding.
Good Lord, that was a harsh one. But It's not wrong though, and It makes it even harsher :/

Were these the same parents who were at the Cincinnati zoo last week?
"His parents offered to compensate Zhao but the artist declined and gracefully accepted that the incident was simply an unfortunate accident." A great gesture on part of the artist. Hopefully the parents learned a lesson about making sure their children behave.
How does one compensate three days of work and, who know how much endless planning. Some people think they can buy their children's out of trouble. At least the artist is left with some beautiful pictures. The parents only have a spoiled brat.
Load More Replies...Just because they offered to pay it(even if they did) doesn't mean they wouldn't punish the child later but paying for it would at least they tried to do the least they could I'm surprised they didn't do it because it was legally required
If I had done that, my parents would be in jail. Because they would have literally killed me.
goes back to the talk of "leashing" the kids in public... not quite a bad idea after all.... my kids loved the children's leashes. They come in neat designs even, teddy bears, back pack styles, etc. They are safety for things like this, as well as keeping your child from being snatched!
I 'leashed' my kid last yr at a theme park. I got some dirty stares, but she didn't run off, and no animals and/or exhibits were destroyed.
Load More Replies...My older son loved his backpack leash! Most people thought it was adorable. One older man made a mean comment.
Child harnesses have been used in Europe as long as I can remember . Called reigns, they allow parents to control small children and ensure the infant's and every things safety.
I hear you. Major lack of parenting skills these days. Work in a thrift store and we have parents bringing in their little ones who take off to the toys area and do as they please pretty much with the parents consent. Then end up destroying things and making a complete mess. So frustrating!
Eh, if it's a shop, try putting a camera pointed at the shelves and make the parents pay for whatever's broken. Heck, you can deliberately leave some more easily breakable toys within their arms reach, then demand compensations when stuffs break.
Putting a $15K exhibit in a "shopping mall" was asking for trouble in the first place. But... parents just don't bother to look after their kids. I see it every day. Kids destroying things, kids running around when they should be standing in line waiting for a train... accidents waiting to happen and parents just standing there talking to each other or on the phone. Then they want to sue when things go south
Exactly why I don't want to have kids: playing Lego in peace have no price!
Wow, that guy was incredibly gracious, we could all take a lesson from him.
I call s****y parenting..that piece wasn't just knocked over, it was deliberately smashed. That must've taken a minute...where the hell were the parents of this tornado??
The kid must've accidentally done it when the parents weren't looking. I would've gotten such a punishment back in the day if I did that. That's kids for you. Look away for 5 seconds & bam, Murphy's Law. But hey, as a kid, you do at least one dumb thing like that. I don't know one childhood friend who didn't do something stupid like that & ruins somebody's day. Regardless if the parents are at fault for allowing it or the kid itself is to blame for disobeying his parents: You will do & have done at least one stupid thing like this as a kid. Doesn't matter what generation yer from. :-)
I had a leash as a kid. I'm sure it prevented a lot of troubles for my parents.
I was about to say at parents don't pay attentiton for their children anymore remebering what happened to the gorilla
"His parents offered to compensate Zhao but the artist declined and gracefully accepted that the incident was simply an unfortunate accident". This guy is sooooo cool. When I saw the heading, I like totally scrolled down to see what he did to the kid. Bummer!!
Never seen Toy Story? Toys were made to play with them.... don't blame a kid if he can't help play with a toy...
My mum taught me not to play with other people toys without consent. Parents today are a bunch of retards without no one respect with the other around. Try to shop this days when all parents are more concentrate in the shelves and leave their kids screaming their head off disturbing everyone who is trying to shop in peace. Not respect at all to the people around. Just an advice, If people are not ready to be a competent parent , please shut your bloody legs.
Another incident of not tending to a small child in a place with potential consequences. At least an animal didn't have to be killed this time.
WHY ARE PARENTS UNABLE TO MANAGE THEIR SMALL CHILDREN? What is actually going on right now?
Wow the artist was soooo forgiving. He didnt even want any compensation for that?!
lol R.I.P fox from zootopia i guess this was in ohio 21_bob-the...024ad7.jpg
I would of BEAT the living s**t out of that little b***h a*s kid bc it took you hard work and dedication for this and plus you dont GET THE 15,000 NAH Bruh that kid is spoiled and NEED to GET shot up i would kill that little s**t b***h a*s kid on me bruh >:(
i would of beat the s**t out of that kid real s**t I SO MAD LIKE BRUH IS your kid R******D or somthing
That kid... I want to bash him real good. The poor man! I'm really, really surprised that took a few days, I had to reread it to make sure I didn't mistake 'days' for 'years'!
Methyl Ethyl Ketone would have prevented that. Applied to the statue it would've fused it. Applied to the children...... Well in any case it would've helped!
That a Lego statue built in 3 days is valued at $15,000 shows what an effed up world we live in. Should parents control their brats? YES, but Legos are hardly a dead gorilla. This statue was kid bait and, as such, should have child-resistant barriers around it. Such a no-brainer.
I feel sorry for the guy... And this is exactly why some people hate kids...
I agree with the responsibility of the parents but at the same time the person who built that sculpture should have been standing right there paying attention to what's going on cause if it were me who made something like that I would never leave that area.
Ooooooooooooh ! a great big fat fine to those irresponsible parents ! For their disobedient, unruly child and to never, ever buy him any Lego. I hope he was made to pick up ALL the pieces !
its not just 3days . 3 days is the time of building the head. all that thing have spend about two mounth.
you break it you buy it so dont offer to "compensate" instead pay up!

Was about to say that too lol, but I suppose he'd want to reuse the Legos later.
Even tho the artist turned down the payment from the parents, I would have insisted on paying him, or made a donation for his fave charity.. and MY kid would have consequences at home!! Parents need to teach right and wrong and not think they 're stunting their childrens' creativity and growth by allowing them to live in anarchy.

RIP Harambe? what? his name is Nick? well..... At least They are destroy by the same cause. .....Reckless parents.
This is a similar negligence on the parents' part as for the toddler who fell into the moat in the gorilla compound in Cincinnati. Where were the parents, and what were they looking at when they should have kept an eye on their kid ? Ultimately, the Mom and Dad are responsible for anything that their child does.
Kids going through zoo fences in gorilla exhibits, kids trashing art. Where TF are these parents? My kid never did anything like this. It's disgraceful.
Well, it's made of LEGO, so it wasn't literally destroyed I guess? Couldn't the artist just reassemble it? Although it must be hell getting 3 days of work trashed in an instant!
Another incident of not tending to a small child with potential consequences. At least an animal didn't have to be killed this time.
He still got paid. He did the job well. There's evidence of that. Move on. Art is made to be confronted. I never would have heard of or seen this sculpture if it wasn't for that kid. This is a win-win for the artist.
I sure hope the parents paid the poor guy back what the statue was worth. That kid tho, ridiculous
Wow...parents really are dropping the ball these days. HOLD YOUR KID BY THE HAND WHEN YOU'RE AT THE ZOO OR AN EXHIBIT!
Abortion ...too many children,,,parents should pay for his time spent on,and time to rebuild, child should be locked up til 21
Thats way over the top... Locked away till 21 for pushing over a statue? Don't be stupid.. I agree the parents should raise their child better, but don't be so ridiculous..
Load More Replies...Ok, so a stupid artist does something stupid and a stupid kid does it as well, what's the fuss? Anyone stupid enough to make a life sized lego sculpture without gluing the pieces is an idiot, duh!
hey come on now, stop blaming the parents. Accidents happen. You don't know the full story - there could be plenty of reasons why their eyes were off the child for a few seconds. They wanted to pay the artist for the piece and I'm sure the child was disciplined.
So what its not the end of the world. When you do structures like this you put glue.Im calling bull s**t
Beat the s**t out of this kid ! ...just joking... ...Beat the s**t out of his parents ! NOT JOKING (and maybe after give the kid a good spanking)
Um, no. Security rope IS all you need. If you cant keep an eye on kids then dont have them.
