Man Gives His Pregnant SIL The Boot Upon Finding Out She Abandoned His Cat On The Streets

I don’t know about you, but I’d take a bullet for my cat. OK, maybe that’s a tad bit too extreme, but you get the gist.

Anyone who has a pet will go to great lengths to promise them a safe and content life, and sometimes, it just so happens that those around us don’t wish for the same thing. Take this Redditor, for instance. He welcomed his fiancée’s pregnant sister into his home, and instead of thanking him, the woman took his cat, with whom she was, for some reason, at war, and left him far away from home.

AITA for kicking my fiancée’s pregnant sister out?” – this web user took to one of Reddit’s most honorable communities to ask its members if it was indeed a jerk move to boot out his partner’s expectant sister who took his cat and deliberately left him at some random auto repair shop. The post garnered 18K upvotes as well as 2K comments discussing the audacity of some people.

Everyone in their right mind knows that animal cruelty is no joke – however, what’s alarming is that, in contrast to maltreatment suffered by humans, only a few individuals report abuse inflicted on pets.

To give you a more illustrative example of how serious the cause really is, the World Animal Foundation, which was founded by a group of animal lovers who are devoted to the safety and welfare of animals worldwide, states that while the US is ranked 31 in the world for the toughest animal cruelty laws, 10 million animals still die from abuse every year; 60% of them are dogs, and 18% are cats.

Now, even though today’s tale has a happy ending, one thing we can all take from it – circling back to one of the opening paragraphs – is that not every person, be it your close one or not, is, in fact, in their right mind.

The star of today’s article is a 27-year-old guy who has a cat named Billy. Billy is his best friend; he’s very funny and adorable.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, the man’s fiancée has a pregnant sister. Her boyfriend booted her out, and she’s now staying with the couple, and the OP is forced to support the whole household because his partner is, for now, jobless. The initial issue started when said sister began complaining about Billy. The woman would yell at him to get out whenever he was in the kitchen or the living room; she’d spray him with water whenever she wanted him gone and would also throw his food away (I know, right?).

Once the man saw it with his own eyes, he demanded she respect Billy as a full-fledged resident of the house and stop hurting him. At first, the author’s fiancée backed her sister and told the man that she’d never had a cat and that was why she didn’t know how to treat them – which, of course, is a bunch of malarkey.

On the day of the incident, the netizen came home at 6 p.m. and couldn’t seem to locate Billy. He went to look for him after his fiancée’s sister claimed that she saw him leaving in the morning – however, shortly after, his neighbor approached him together with the missing Billy, saying he saw the soon-to-be mom dropping him off near a car repair shop away from home.

When the man’s neighbor brought the pet over and revealed the truth, he lost it and booted his fiancée’s sibling out

Image credits: John Morton (not the actual photo)

Needless to say, the man was furious, and Billy was so scared that he couldn’t even eat. The OP then confronted his fiancée’s sibling. She denied going anywhere and asked her sister to back her up, but the woman refused. Not long after, the culprit admitted what she’d done but kept excusing her behavior by claiming to be worried for her unborn child because she, apparently, had heard that cats aren’t good around pregnant women.

The guy reached his boiling point and blew up at her. He asked the woman to leave, and while his partner tried to stop him from kicking her sister out by saying that the woman was still her sibling and he should be more graceful, it was all useless.

During their quarrel, the guy fought for Billy’s welfare but was subsequently referred to as “unsupportive” and was advised to take Billy to stay with friends since the woman’s sibling was obviously afraid of him.

The man then provided a pic of Billy (peep the very first picture in the article) and invited the readers to decide whether Billy is indeed as scary as his fiancée’s sister paints him to be.

What do you think about this situation?

Pregnant people need to steer clear of litterboxes. That's it. The cats themselves are fine. Anyone who would have the audacity to steal their host's pet and abandon it somewhere deserves to get kicked out on their a$$, pregnant or not. The fiancée also needs to be dumped for condoning that behaviour. If she thinks that's fine, who knows what she'll do herself in the future. Thank goodness for that neighbour. Poor Billy.

⚠️PSA ⚠️It takes 1-5 days AFTER the cat defecates for the 💩 to become infectious with toxoplasmosis. If you pooper-scoop daily, then there's zero chance of getting sick from it. Boyfriend clearly had reasons for kicking her out, sister is enabling abuse of the cat and the fiancé... both should go bc they just cannot be trusted. Especially when they don't even contribute!!!

I feel sorry for the baby who’s on the way, with a b***h mother like that. Kindness to animals is a sure sign of kindness to people. Pregnant sister has flunked that test with an F-, and fiancée didn’t do much better with an F+, only for disagreeing with her sister, though still an F because she didn’t do diddly-squat about it.

Treating pets as a pair of old shoes you can throw away once you decided you don't want them anymore are a giant red flag. And the audacity of throwing away a pet of the person who agreed to let you live in their house is just beyond belief.

My dad is an alcoholic and my mom has put up with a lot over the years. After some 20-30 years of sobriety, he was enjoying some work success and decided having a glass of wine or beer with dinner would be fine. It wasn't. Mom had a particular cat that she has rescued from the edge of death and nursed back to health. One night, she shows up ay my house bawling her eyes out. The cat had pissed on the kitchen floor and dad threw him out the door. The dog was in the yard, scared the hell out of the cat and he ran off. I went to the house with my mom and my wife, walked in the door and locked it behind me. I asked my dad if he was done drinking or if he was about to get beaten into the hospital. I've never experienced anger like that, but knowing the cruelty he just performed and seeing my mom broken down like that was just too much. I was absolutely ready to start swinging. In the end, he was so pathetic sitting there I didn't wind up doing it.

I did let him know if I ever saw him with a drink in his hand again, it'd be a different story. We never saw the cat again. My parents' marriage, which had been recovering and proceeding well up until then, was gutted and has never recovered. (in short, the cat was there first, and is probably a better person than the sil. Cats aren't really dangerous to pregnant women, though their litter boxes can be, and in any case, if she's worried about it, it's up to her to find other accommodations, not decide to throw away the cat that belongs to the owner of the house she's mooching off of. I suspect there was a good reason her bf kicked her out)

If she was worried she should have discussed her concerns and maybe OP could have agreed on some compromise like not letting the cat in the kitchen temporarily ( I would be worried the cat could get in contact with my food). It is understandable she is worried when pregnant. What she did was totally beyond any boundary I would have kicked her out too. Op is NTA but fiancee and sister are AH. Fiancee for enabling the behaviour. Luckily the neighbour saw it the cat could have died!

All you people with kitties give them extra pets for me, please. I actually think cats are 100% adorable (I tell my students otherwise just as a joke) but I am so allergic to them! 😭 Last summer in Peru I took extra allergy medicine so I could visit a cat café with my fiancé, and even though I didn't even really pet any, merely being in the same room for less than an hour had my eyes watering and had me sneezing. If I am around them too long, or I play with them, my eyes swell up, and I lose my voice. I am soooo sad because I will never be able to have cats 😭😭😭😭😭😭

A huge NTA! Definitely kick the SIL out! Anyone who'd do that to a defenseless cat doesn't deserve to stay in your home, and, in my book, has no business having custody of a defenseless child. I hate to think what kind of mother that woman is going to make, and your fiance should have enough sense to understand that. You might want to rethink your relationship, since your fiance defended the SIL who abused your cat and will undoubtedly be an equally horrid parent. You don't need that in your life.

So why was there no mention of why her boyfriend kicked her out to begin with? There's got to be a reason. If her behavior with the cat is any indication, he was right to give her the boot. My concern is if she treats a cat this way, what will she do when the kid comes along?

Being pregnant doesn’t give you a free pass to abuse animals. Quite the opposite, in fact. If she can do this to a cat that has caused her no harm, imagine what she could do to that child when he/she frustrates her in any way. Red flags like that should never be ignored & the fiancée is dumb for not seeing how narcissistic her sister’s behaviour is. Goodbye & good riddance to both women is what I’d say. 🤨🐈🤷‍♀️

This isn't true. Pregnant people just shouldn't clean their litter boxes & their litter boxes should be in areas that aren't a super high traffic area & their litter need to be disposed of properly (not in the toilet or in the regular trash.. tied up in preferably biodegradable bags & thrown outside) their boxes should also be hooded boxes so that way the litter, dust & potent bacteria are contained.... as long as you clean your boxes daily (by a non pregnant person) & you do regular litter changes & the pregnant person isn't exposed to their feces then it's completely safe for pregnant ppl to be around cats. The only reason that it could be "dangerous" is because of toxoplasmosis... which.. unless that pregnant person is spending time near their litter boxes or they don't keep the litter boxes clean & sanitary, it's very very unlikely that this would be an issue.

Run. Saying that as someone who lived with five cats (and two dogs) all through the pregnancy. The only consequence for the baby is that she is crazy about cats. Did get rid of some people, though, really helped.

So you are supporting your fiancé who doesn’t work. She then moves in someone else who doesn’t work then there will be a baby for you to support too. And the free loaders are increasingly taking over and trying to run things. Get rid of the lot.

Someone who treats Billy like that or stands back and condons that behaviour is a walking red flag. So the fiancee doesnt care about OPs beloved cat? What a s**t partner. The sister tries to abandon a house cat? Cruel and disgusting. People show their true selves when they hurt helpless animals. Get rid of them!

Billy is adorable! Who would do that to such an innocent creature? Keep the cat. I might reconsider marrying anyone who would allow such a thing to happen. I'd be pissed if that happened to either one of my cats. Poor Billy. He has feelings too and he must have been scared out of his mind in an unknown place. I hope he's ok and his nerves have calmed down so he can eat.

That is unforgivable. I wouldn't even forgive my fiancee for siding with the b*tch who dumped the cat. Just because it's her sister is no reason to support abusing an animal.

Ditch the sick, twisted, unhinged bìtch. Do it now. Get that pile of rancid shìt out of your home now, this exact instant. Never, ever be in its vicinity ever again, its quite obviously pathologically evil. Get rid of it, for your cats sake.

Hmm wonder why the bf kicked out the preggo? Lol I would have no understanding if she dropped my animal off at a random place. The sis kicked out, and if my fiance is taking up for her "B***h you can get the f**k out too!"

Making excuses for someone to mistreat an animal is almost as bad as abusing the animal. OP needs to dump them BOTH. I can see why the boyfriend kicked the pregnant woman out, she sounds like a real treat.

It is a good thing you found out the real nature of your girlfriend before getting more involved with her or even (horrifying thought) marrying her. If she sees nothing wrong about kicking out your friend, what would she do herself?

Being pregnant doesn’t give you a free pass to abuse animals. Quite the opposite, in fact. If she can do this to a cat that has caused her no harm, imagine what she could do to that child when he/she frustrates her in any way. Red flags like that should never be ignored & the fiancée is dumb for not seeing how narcissistic her sister’s behaviour is. Goodbye & good riddance to both women is what I’d say. 🤨🐈🤷‍♀️

Zero excuses for what she did and the lack of support from your fiancee. Kick them both out. I'm not surprised the BF kicked SIL out. He needs to stop being a simp and supporting either of them. Neither are good people, and both need to be out of his life.

NTA. When did fiancé's sister decide that SHE was ruling the roost? How DARE she put her hands on someone else's pet and attempt to dispose of him! Dump HER, and if your fiancé gives you any grief about it, she can follow suit. They're more toxic than the litter box.

Cats shouldn't be around pregnant people. This is true. But she knew you had a cat and came to stay anyway. Kick her out and if your GF says no, tell her she is more than welcome to go with her.
