Everyone who reads Bored Panda already knows just how cool Lawrence Police Department officers are. These are the guys that were responsible for the now legendary tweet “If you must criminal, go ahead and criminal today. It’s plenty warm for us to catch you. Criminal” and we can’t help but obsess over this hilarious Twitter account. Recently, the officers of Lawrence PD in Kansas received “the most ridiculous emergency call of 2019” and, naturally, decided to share it with all of us. We promise you won’t be disappointed because you know that Lawrence PD delivers.

More info: Twitter

Lawrence Police Department in Kansas state shared a thread about ‘Karen’ and ‘Chad’ and jokingly illustrated it with ‘Dumb and Dumber’ photo

The center characters of the story about a ridiculous parking lot road rage are “Karen” and “Chad” – a couple of strangers who refused to move out of each other’s way in the parking lot. Hence, “Karen” decided that the best way to solve the issue was to call the police, which she did. As per Lawrence PD, “two unfortunate souls” were called to a “reckless driving in progress” report on one Wednesday night. The person behind the Twitter thread also kindly noted, that this time that the two officers “will never get back.”

Apparently, even the sergeant showed up to the situation only to quietly remove himself away when he saw what stupid people they’re dealing with. The Lawrence PD guys put it in a more poetic way, though: “[he] nopes out of there like the day old donuts just got set out at the gas station.”

The standoff became more and more intense with each minute, and Karen couldn’t hold her feelings in anymore more, proclaiming that “the police suck.” Bold move, if you ask us.

And it’s a wrap! The officers have left the ridiculous standoff scene, deciding that, unfortunately, they can’t help with people’s childishness as there is no cure for that.

On March 1, at 8:02 p.m. the Lawrence PD has informed that, finally, Chad and Karen left

If we have learned anything from this thread, it’s that the police are really sometimes doing the Lord’s work. Good luck, dear reckless drivers, and thank you for the quality entertainment time you’ve given us. Also, big props to the Lawrence PD guys for handling the situation in a light-hearted and humorous way.

They could have looked at the parking lot as an elevator and use that etiquette...the exiting person is given the right-of-way. Humans and their natures!

In the UK - we have signs - at entrance/exits - Give Way to Oncoming vehicles trying to enter the car park from a road with traffic - what is so hard?? They both deserved each other.

Backing a vehicle should be included in all driving tests. Failure to properly back a vehicle should be an automatic failure; no license for you.

As much as fining Karen for wasting time would have been satisfying, I think the officers decided that they would rather leave and call it a night than spend one more second with these two gems of society.

reminds me of an old joke. An aircraft carrier is cruising on a heading and sees an oncomming light. The air craft's navigation people radio out and demand they give right of way, and that they change headings ten degrees to port or whatever. The other peeps decline and tell them "No, you change YOUR heading ten degrees to port." the carrier fellow says "NO. YOU change YOUR heading ten degrees to port. I'M an AIR CRAFT CARRIER." the other fellow replies, "Sir. It's your choice, but I'm a lighthouse."

This story actually shows a couple of very true but negative things about society in general. The first one is that people are just rude and petty. When one is waiting for an elevator or bus to arrive, when it arrives it is common knowledge and courtesy that the person waiting allows the people to exit the bus or elevator before attempting to board the bus or elevator. The second thing is that people really and truly do not understand what constitutes and that requires emergency services to become involved, what a waste of resources at a time where they are so needed and financially restrained.

A guy did this to me on a highway. We were both trying to make a legal U turn but the guy closed my space, I even signal him to go ahead and take the turn that I would wait; he kept blocking me expecting me to not take the turn I guess. His poor wife kept trying to tell him to move. I finally managed to squeeze between his car and the sidewalk and go on my way. Dunno what his problem was.

I would have said "One of you can move your car or both of you can have your cars towed and ticketed for impeding the flow of traffic." There's no need to tell them that it's private property and you can't do anything. If they want to act like children, you can take away their toys as punishment.

Scenario A: If it's a standard two-way entrance/exit serving the parking lot, then Karen needs to move. She's smack in the middle of the driveway taking up half the other lane and didn't leave enough room for incoming cars. Scenario B: If it's a one-way Exit Only, then Chad needs to move and find the designated entrance. And if they're in the Entrance Only, you guessed it, Karen needs to move and find the exit.

Wait, did "Chad" and "Karen" know the police didn't have any authority to make either one of them move?? If not, police officer flips a coin. Loser moves first or faces a traffic ticket for "obstructing a right of way." Alternatively, they could have told "Karen" if she didn't move she would be charged with "filing a false police report/wasting valuable resources" and be fined for the costs of the call (pay for all reporting officers, gas for police cars involved, pay for the dispatcher etc.). Maybe it's because I'm in a city and the police here have no sympathy for stuck-up snots like this.
