A couple of years ago, I was fortunate enough to be one of three artists commissioned to do street art drawings for a yearly Halloween pub crawl. Long story short, I chose the theme of “monsters” and drew North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un, as popular characters of the old Hollywood. Not a big reach, in my opinion, and frankly, didn’t think those were such controversial artworks. But apparently, I was wrong. It was taken down immediately… didn’t even get to finish my work, was stopped halfway through my North Korean leader as Dracula, and never got to even start my Kim Jong-un as a zombie (I was really looking forward to that one). And by the way, the two cool drawings that were up were getting great laughs and attention from everyone who walked by… even had a bunch of people taking photos. It was exactly the outcome I was hoping for.
Fast forward to the present day, a friend of mine said, “Those drawing ideas you did a couple of years ago were great. You should repaint those for Halloween this year.” Well… since I’m not a fan of doing anything twice, and since I’m both a closet artist and a closet comic book characters nerd… VOILA! I give to you “Joker” in all of his sociopathic glory.
Enjoy!
