Jogger Turns Running Routes Into Fun Animal Artwork Using A GPS Tracker

Jeric Yeun—a 35-year-old living in New Cross Gate, South London—is not your typical jogger. The man carefully plans his jogging routes so that he can later turn them into pictures. Each time Jeric goes for a jog, he runs up to 30k (18.6m) to make adorable drawings of chickens, dogs, rats, and even giraffes. But he’s not doing it only because it’s fun—Jeric is aiming to raise awareness and funds for Spinal Research. “I draw Strava Art and help paralyzed people to live an active life again,” he writes on his Instagram.

Jeric first got into jogging after running a half marathon a couple of years ago. He then had a thought that it would be fun to see if he could manage drawing a face during one of his jogs. The 35-year-old, who works as a web developer, has already done 12 drawings around London. His aim? 20 drawings AND two marathons, all in hopes of aiding Spinal Research. So far, he has raised £1,500.

“As a runner, I understand the importance of being active and not everyone is as fortunate as us,” Jeric writes on his Instagram. “So, this year the plan is to do lots of drawings. I’ll be challenging myself to draw 20 Strava Arts while I’m traveling around here and there.”

“Have you tried it before?” Jeric asks, talking about Strava art. “It’s very difficult, it’s time-consuming and it’s tough. I’ll also be running two marathons too as part of the initiative to help people with paralysis to live an active life again.”

However, the recently-introduced (at least in the UK) quarantine has rearranged Jeric’s plans a bit. But, “for me, training still continues,” he says. “The only change is the time I’m doing my training. Instead of running after work, I’m doing all my solo run early in the morning around 6 am just to avoid the crowds,” the jogger reveals.

“It’s tough, as all my routine is now completely different. But it makes me appreciate running even more during this hard time and I’m trying to build a habit to it. So for today, I’ve got 10.2k done at my local park with a bit of trail before work while everyone else is still sleeping.”
