President Joe Biden’s dogs have officially moved into the White House, and the internet is loving the wholesome canine pics. Champ and Major Biden arrived at their new home in Washington from Delaware on Sunday, January 24, even though Biden officially became the president of the United States during a ceremony on January 20. Why not have the dogs move in immediately?

Well, according to Michael LaRosa, press secretary for Jill Biden, the First Family wanted to get all settled in before doing so. It all makes sense—you want your doggos to come once everything’s all figured out and there’s less chaos. When you’re done enjoying this post and all of the photos of America’s First Pets, check out our recent article about Major’s “indoguration” that 10k people tuned in to watch right here. Major and Champ are so popular, they even have a website and social media accounts dedicated to their activity.

Pop culture, entertainment, and celebrity expert Mike Sington gave Bored Panda his take on Champ and Major arriving at the White House. “I, and most Americans are thrilled our new President and First Lady have dogs in the White House! Probably because it was so unusual for the Trumps to not have any pets. The general feeling was it spoke to their lack of empathy. It really stood out that the previous President didn’t have a dog, because Presidential families going back decades before him were all dog lovers,” Mike said.

We were also curious to know what message Biden was sending to all Americans by bringing his dogs to the White House. According to pop culture expert Mike, it was all about telling the US that things are back to normal.

“The general message being sent by the Bidens having Champ and Major in the White House is we’re a normal, loving family, who loves our dogs, just like you do! It’s definitely exhibiting a touch of normalcy that was lacking during the past four years. It’s also notable that Major is the first shelter dog to call the White House home, which is another positive message,” he explained.

The White House reports that Champ is loving his dog bed by the fireplace (not going to lie, we’re a bit jealous) while Major is having fun running around the South Lawn.

The First Dogs’ fans even put out a hilarious ‘official statement’ full of woofs on their behalf. The statement that got translated so that we hoomans could understand it, too. They said that they love it at the White House, everyone’s petting and feeding them, and they enjoyed taking a nap at the Oval Pawwfice. They also explained how they plan to explore the West Wing and return the Rose Garden to its “former glory” by digging through it (which is a subtle dig at the former administration).

The dogs are absolutely loving it there

Major and Champ are both German Shepherds. The Bidens permanently adopted Major in 2018 after fostering him for some time when he had to stay at a shelter. He’s the first shelter dog to live in the White House, and we couldn’t be more proud. While Major is 3 years old, the Bidens have had Champ since December 2008.

This is the first time since 2017, when the Obamas left, that pets have taken up residence in the White House.

Winston, Biden’s granddaughter’s cat, is currently the First Cat of the United States until the Bidens adopt a cat of their own

For everyone complaining about how relieved we are to have the Bidens, we KNOW he isn't perfect. We know about his faults, his alleged handsiness, his verbal gaffs. We are very aware of all of that. HOWEVER, the previous tenet was so awful and dangerous that even someone as flawed and blandly average as Joe feels like oxygen after 4 years of drowning. Also, damn straight it's nice to have dog people in the White House again!

I am sitting here drinking my coffee and crying my eyes out. I love seeing the pets of the pawfice. But what really touched my heart was seeing Dr. Jill (with respect) wearing tennis shoes... and even better barefoot!!! We are going to have REAL people in the White House again!
