Jimmy Fallon’s Kids Heckle Him As He Makes Jokes During His At-Home Tonight Show

Jimmy Fallon is one of many who continue to host shows despite the coronavirus lockdown. However, the At Home Edition of the Tonight Show does not feature jingles by The Roots and the camera is a little bit wobbly as it is done by Fallon’s wife Nancy amid the chaos that is having two kids at home, but it still retains many of its segments and trademark humor.

Well, the March 26th episode with Alec Baldwin and 5 Seconds of Summer featured his two girls, 6-year-old Winnie and 5-year-old Franny. However, this wasn’t the typical cameo as in other shows—no, this time they played an active role.

Since Jimmy is hosting the Tonight Show from his home, he doesn’t have a direct audience to react to his jokes and shenanigans. So, this time around, he got his two daughters to react to his opening monologue.

After every joke he made, the two young ladies were to give a thumbs up for a good joke or, in good old kiddy fashion, to blow out a raspberry for a bad one. Yeah, you can already guess what happened next.

Since there is no audience, Fallon asked his daughters Winnie and Franny to react to his monologue jokes

And when you give kids a “prft” raspberry option, they will always go for it

Fallon’s opening monologue featured a number of topical jokes:

“Well, guys, I gotta be honest, the boredom of isolation is really starting to settle in. Today, I started a master class from Ken Burns’ hairstylist.”

“Seriously, I’m bored out of my mind. Last night, I binge-watched ten hours of my doorbell camera.”

“I think my family’s getting a little bit tired of me too. This morning, they said ‘I know it’s dangerous out there, dad, but why don’t you just give it a shot?’”

Here is the full show with these and more shenanigans from Winnie and Franny

The two were spewing raspberries left and right, but the internet found it super adorable

“These are crazy times: video chatting with everyone you know is getting a little weird. It’s one thing to know what someone else’s house looks like, it’s another to know what it looks like up their nose. I feel like everyone’s dentist.”

“The language learning program, Rosetta Stone, is offering a free 3-day trial. And everyone who signed up was like ‘OK, I have three days to learn French.’”

“This is crazy: a guy who was self-isolating actually sent his chihuahua to the store with money to buy Cheetos for him—and it worked. Yeah, that doesn’t sound like real life—it sounds like a plot to a Seth Rogen movie.”

There was even a point when the kids were just giving raspberries for the fun of it

Turns out, these two are Jimmy’s harshest, yet cutest critics! Throughout this introduction, Winnie, who is also responsible for the title cards as the At Home Edition’s graphic designer, and Franny, who was going nuts on that popcorn in the background, were giving Jimmy raspberry after raspberry.

At first, the two members of the jury listened to the jokes, patiently waiting for the kicker punchlines, only to destroy them with popcorn-laden raspberries. It quickly turned into the exact opposite—an impatient critique without even hearing out the jokes, slamming every single attempt with a raspberry with Winnie explaining that that a prft is worse (“badder”) than a thumbs-down.

And there were yet other moments when there was a “prft” mid-joke

All poor Jimmy could do is mumble in disagreement at the audience’s harsh verdict. “Maybe google Ken Burns, I don’t know?”, “What?! That one’s OK, you’re laughing after it,” and “Oh God, the sense of humor back there. Gosh!” were all that Jimmy could honestly say after being booed in the form of raspberries. Cuteness all around!

In an interview with People, Jimmy explained that it’s “chaos, controlled chaos” with the unconventional way that his show is being produced during the lockdown. However, the reason why Jimmy brought the show back on the air despite it being a bit of a challenge to do it from home is to raise awareness of the coronavirus pandemic, organizing fundraisers towards the cause along the way.

He also said that he, the writers, and others involved are all coming together to bring a sense of normalcy to the people throughout the lockdown. We can safely say that the two little bundles of chaos featured in nearly all of his home episodes have become the new norm and will have to make comebacks in the regular studio shows from now on.

By the end, Fallon was expecting nothing but a joyful “prft” coming from the two rascals
