This Is Imma – A Computer-Generated Influencer Who Makes Real Content
Do you know the feeling you get when a girl on Instagram looks too perfect to be real? Imagine a cute girl catches your attention: she’s beautiful, fashionable and popular. After following her for a while, you want to be with her or be like her. But then, you suddenly find out (yes, you find out, because you could never tell by the photos) that she is not real. And she’s not an old school catfish like on MTV, because, technically – she’s not even a person.

It seems like the future has arrived sooner than we anticipated. Modern technology has made a significant breakthrough over the past decades, and it’s not going to slow down. It has come to a point when things are often not as they seem, so basically, you can’t trust anyone on the Internet. And here is the ‘not so living’ proof of that – Imma. She’s an Instagram influencer with a following of over 30k people, though she will never step on a catwalk or appear at a fashion event.

Her perfect proportions, flawless skin, pastel pink hair, unique kawaii style is all that it takes to attract attention, gain followers and, of course, get plenty of brand deals. Someone who unknowingly comes Imma’s Instagram account with selfies, pictures posing in front of a car, trying on clothes, wandering the streets of Tokyo, or on a night out at a restaurant might not even think twice as this AI model has created an extraordinarily natural and believable presence. She already has a Twitter account, and we can only guess what’s coming next.

Apparently, you don’t even have to be a human to be popular on Instagram. Hyper-realism characters are becoming a new trend on social media, and we can only expect new ones to start occupying our feeds shortly, and their computer-made images will look even more life-like.

We are the generation that has developed body image issues because of Photoshop, airbrushing, etc. The kids in my generation grew up seeing images of women that were manipulated beyond belief to look a certain way, fluctuating with the trends of the fashion world. Tell me that this isn't a million times worse. Now our self-worth and perception of beauty is not only being threatened by the manipulation of images of real women and the perpetuating idea that women must be perfect to be beautiful, but now this dangerous ideology has advanced to the point that we are not even looking at real women at all, but simply something that is created by humans. I cannot express how disturbed I am that the generation of girls growing up behind me will be compared to computer-generated images. These lifeless images may seem harmless to us, because they are new and exciting, but I they have a dangerous potential. I know I can't be the only one who feels this way.
You definitely aren't the only one. It's frightening

Do you think they generate whole pictures? I guess they have AI generated model of her face and body. They then ask AI to create pictures using it. But I guess either a lot of human editing goes into the final picture or the background etc is more man made than AI generated.

In Germany there are highly controversial discussed plans to use CGI to create fake child pornography in order to gain access to criminal platforms and fight them from within. So this technique might actually help to save real children from sexual abuse. I wished we just left all the sick stuff to animated soulless characters and turn back to being humane humans.
This is one reason I dont have an Instagram. I know most of it is photoshop, filters, facetune, and lies.
At first glance she looks pretty real, and I don't exactly follow people like her for comparison but the more I look at her the more I see what looks like one of those real life sex dolls. Girls that look like this on social media are definitely using too much makeup/ filters/ photoshop. This is a disgusting beauty standard. Have you seen the snap chat filters these days? Completely contorts the shape of ones face, literally makes pretty girls unattractive and they think it's a good thing.
Exactly what I was going to say! It's like can't afford plastic surgery just use one of these amazing filters and bam your face has been sucked and contorted into "beauty". Not mention the online dating world where people have no idea who they are really talking to.

I'll be the minority here, but I don't find this terrifying, to be honest. I find it an amazing work of skillful art. Its hyper-realism reminds of ancient Greek and Roman statutes and of the Renaissance. Those were also very contradictorily realistic. The contradiction is in that average people don't really look like that. At the same time it makes you think, what difference does this make from people who edit and fake their lives for the public anyway? It's beautiful, it's provocative and it raises important questions. This is art and it's magnificent.
The lighting is amazing. They really make her work with each setting.
Only the face is CGI, it's added to a real body. Impressive but not as much as if it was full CGI. https://interestingengineering.com/meet-imma-the-worlds-first-computer-generated-model
I don't know why everyone is scared of this? Advances are happening, reality online has been lost for ages now. It's mostly all make believe now. From filters to programs like Lyrebird it's just how things are now. In three months it will be even harder to tell what's real versus an image drawn up. I love s**t like this.
Where is it shown she is a cgi model? The description just says so but details would be nice
This is incredible. I had trouble believing that she wasn't a real person.
What do you think will happen to the future of modeling and social media with virtual people?
wait, im confused, its just her head thats being photoshopped into pictures or this is a robot or...?
She is CGI, like a completely lifelike cartoon. Kinda creepy when you realize this is not a robot or in any photoshopped

I once I worked in an upscale ladies wear store and had to manipulate mannequins and put them in "interesting" poses to accentuate the clothing To do this, at the moveable joints, I would remove arms, hands and move the upper torso in different poses. It was really fascinating to be able to do this. Sometimes when I was working in the window, I would notice patrons looking in from outside; then I would "freeze" in a position for a time and suddenly move and face them and grin!
