Depends on the oven. Gas oven? It's usually the broiler. Electric? On much older models, before microwaves, it was a warming drawer. On modern ovens, if it's fancy, it might be a proofing drawer for bread, but otherwise, it's a storage drawer.

Tell that to my oven, an hour at 350 and I can pickup my pans bare handed, it's not the 50s anymore.

Not all ovens are equipped with the "warming" drawer; it has to specifically made that way. My oven does NOT come with a warming drawer. Read your manual because all stoves are not created equally.

They embraced this reality with my double oven. The drawer beneath the ovens is actually not a part of the oven unit at all and it's significantly bigger than a warming drawer.
