Isolation In Nature (Reflecting Our Lives Today)

Isolation and simplicity exists all around us as we lead our busy lives. We’re distracted by the hustle and bustle, and unable to see and appreciate the simplicity and beauty of nature. In recent times, we’re more aware of isolation than ever before. The things we now took for granted in our daily lives have been taken away from us, and we’re left to look inward.

An opportunity now exists to explore and learn more about ourselves than ever before, if we’re willing to look and listen. It can definitely be a scary time, but it can also be a wonderful time of self-exploration and expression. It’s in times like this we learn more about ourselves, and the things that are truly important to us.

A few years ago, my wife (Tiffany) and I spent 5 months camping our way around Australia. We threw the camping basics, a two-man tent, our camera backs into the back of our small car and took off. We didn’t know where we were going to be, what we were going to see, or how long we’d spend in each place. Four months into the trip, we were lying in the tent, and I turned to Tiffany and asked “do you miss home?”, she answered immediately, “No, I haven’t even thought about it”. How was it possible that we can leave our 4 bedrooms, beach community house and pool, to live in a tent and not miss it.?

At that moment, we both came to the realisation that home is where we were, and that our belongings meant nothing to us, as long as we had each other. Shortly after returning home we started making plans, that would change our lives forever. We applied for a residency visa for Tiffany to Canada, sold everything we owned and took off for a two-year adventure in the Canadian Rockies. We kept our clothes, our cameras, and a few sentimental items, and started our simpler life. It was the best decision that we ever made.

The simpler things in life, stand out like they never have before. We take the time to smell those roses, truly enjoy our surroundings and capture the smaller things that can so easily be overlooked in our busy lives.

The images in the small portfolio below represent some of the beauty in the world the way we see it. We hope they can bring you some enjoyment and appreciate the isolation.
