34 Cringe Things That Adults in Their 30s Still Do That Show How Immature They Actually Are
It’s a strange fact, but our age doesn’t always define our maturity. Why else would we have terms like “man-child,” right? We often come across such people who never act their age, no matter how old they get, and their behavior tends to get to us.
Even Reddit user AnythingDeep69 might have experienced something similar, as she asked online, “What screams ‘irresponsible’ in your 30s?” and folks gushed with answers. You might even find yourself nodding along in agreement with some of these instances or habits of irresponsible adults. Just scroll down to check them out!

Posting all your business and drama on social media. Keep that off the internet.
I can never understand this. I post very rarely on my pages and it's mostly memes and funny things.
I post rarely because I have no business and drama.
Load More Replies...Or worse, posting all your drama on FB and then being offended when people ask about it.
I dont use a platform able to allow me to put drama online. I wouldn't anyway.
Being the same person you were in your 20s. I want to fight my 25-year-old self. If you look back on your younger self and don’t cringe at some things, you probably aren’t growing as a person.
I find the older I get, the less self-centered and worried I am. Of course it could be all the meds.
Age is inversely proportional to giving a s**t
Load More Replies...I realize I'm a different person at 46 than at 26... But NOT in a good way. I wish I hadn't change for worse, because when I was younger, I was a happier, undamaged, trusting, open person, I enjoyed life and had so much will to do my best...but now I find myself unable to trust anyone, and unwilling to even to talk to people, and I got tired of healing only for the next person to damage me even more. I'm done. All I want is to close my eyes and never open them again. Life is such a lifetime punishment.
I trusted more, but I was also more of an a*****e. I regret losing the trust, but I'm glad I've been able to work on improving the rest.
Load More Replies...But, if you weren't THAT 20 year old, you possibly wouldn't be the person you are now. You needed who/what you were at 20 to be the person you are now.
Load More Replies...I cringe at my 19 year old self. I can remember saying to my mum that I didn't need to learn anything more about the world as I already knew everything. How arrogant and wrong I was! lol
No one confidently thinks they know more about everything than a 20 year old! lol
Load More Replies...I don't look back and cringe because I try not to live in a way that would make me feel that way. But I completely agree with Magenta Blu that I have become more cynical and less open than I was when I was younger. Some days I'm just so fking sick of other people and their lies/scams/bullsh. Thankfully I'm an introvert so being by myself is a time for recharging, not for being miserable. All weekend, all by myself (and cat). 👍😀
I was bullied as a child and I have worked to become more confident, open, trusting, and approachable for forty years. I think it worked, but I'm still an introvert and like you I think I may need to put the signal out to the cat distribution system.
Load More Replies...In re "I want to fight my 25-year-old self" ... 25-year-old you likely has better speed and cardio than 30-year-old you. I advise you stick and jab, stick and jab, make ... yourself ... angry and rash. Power is the last thing to go, so put everything into one colossal overhand right, timed just so.
A total lack of self awareness of how your actions affect others, but more importantly, yourself.
Not being able to take responsibility for the role you play in creating many of your own trials and tribulations.
Yeah, the twenties are for messing around and figuring that stuff out. Consistently constantly continuing this is very bad.
The older I get, the less I care about others. They can feel and think what they want, I can't care less
As you scroll through the list, you might realize that you have seen people do these exact same things, and it might have even frustrated you. Let's look closely at some of the things that adults do in their 30s, which shows how irresponsible or cringe-worthy they can be.
For instance, one user mentioned how some people share all their business and drama on social media. Research says that a psychological factor that contributes to oversharing is narcissism. It stresses that individuals with narcissistic tendencies may feel an insatiable desire for attention and admiration and seek to fulfill it by sharing personal achievements, experiences, or even hardships on a public platform.
Blaming others for the actions of your children and not your own parenting.
I see too many teachers cussed by parents for things that are something a parent should do/teach/handle.
Enabling, redirecting blame, an inability to take criticism or have their child criticized are highly indicatitive of a narcissist parent.

Load More Replies...Other netizens mentioned things related to money and how adults do stupid things like buying expensive things or getting a pet they can't look after. Studies show that American household debt hit a record $16.9 trillion at the end of 2022, up $2.75 trillion since 2019. However, despite this staggering debt, folks still keep spending on unnecessary things and getting things that they can't really afford.
According to Investopedia, "People buy luxury goods despite not being able to afford them for several reasons, including a sense of irrationality, a belief that a higher price equals higher quality, a desire for higher self-esteem, and a desire for a sense of accomplishment." This just shows how consumerism has deep psychological underpinnings where people lack a sense of what's actually necessary.
Living beyond your means because you are more worried about having what other people have or what they will think of you if you do not have the latest and greatest.
Time to grow up...
I always live beyond my means, because I can hardly afford the rent. I eat one meal a day IF I can afford it, and I haven't brought new clothes or shoes since before the pandemic... So.. it's not that simple as "growing up" as not to grow poor
School fees are my priority so I can keep my kid in a private school for another two years. She's thriving
I buy things which I don't need, to impress people who I don't like.
Pets a person can’t afford or care for, often more than one.
I have 7 pets! I'm not irresponsible, though - since I'm 43, not in my 30s any more! XD (Joking though - I can afford them. And technically Preacher and Stilgar are at my ex's house.)
I can only dream to have 7 pets =3 You are so lucky
Load More Replies...I have 10 housecats (inside/outside) and they include 6 kittens born last September and neutered/spayed. All my inside cats are fixed and I am working on getting the outside cats fixed. We spend more on cat food than human food but can afford them and love them. I am 65 and share the house with my 92 year old mother.
It not safe to let your cats outside. Housecats need to be in the house.
Load More Replies...My worst was thirteen cats. Two young ums, everybody said too young to get the pill or fixed, suddenly found themselves in the family way. First litter of six apiece but one died during birth. Madness, chaos, but managed to find homes for all the kittens, and the two troublemakers got fixed pretty sharpish! These days, I only have one cat. She is the very definition of yandere - loving one moment and psychotic the next, able to switch in an instant.
I have a neighbor who doesn't take care of his sweet pup, everytime i see him i get the urge to bop him over the head with an anvil.
Honestly, same for children. If you can't take care of or watch over them, you shouldn't have them.
Jup...time and money wise...do I want a second dog? and a turtle? axolotles? yes! but unless my godmothers turtle Marie needs a new home I shall refrain.
Circumstances change though. I've had pets when I was doing well but then when I lost my job, I still cared for my pets but not to the higher standard I could previously. They still were fed, had vet care etc but some people aren't as fortunate. It doesn't mean they can't have the benefits of having animal companions. I went without so my cat would be cared for.
Buying a brand new car when you can barely afford your mortgage.
So, buy a car you wouldn't mind living in. You're welcome.
I've lived in my van for a while, when I used to physically flee from my now-ex in a desperate attempt to escape his abúse XD I started even keeping a pillow and blanket in there. Even here in Southern California, it gets COLD in an uninsulated vehicle at night!
Load More Replies...A brand new car is such an investment and not to mention the depreciation with it. I definitely can't afford that or to lose so much of the investment over time.
Let’s just talk about this dude in the stock photo for a second. He’s distracting me with his awesome almost-mock-turtleneck/wacky beard/curly mustache/blazer combo. I’m not sure if I want to buy him lunch or if I find him repellant.
He looks like he's wearing a Guy Fawkes (aka. Anonymous) Mask.
Load More Replies...I have a friend who owns a restaurant and constantly complains about how he might have to shut it down because food and staffing costs are eating him alive and it's just not making money. Dude showed up in a new 80k vehicle a couple months back and just flew his family of 5 first class to a 5 star resort over spring break. I can't decide if they're living beyond their means or if he's full of s**t.
Someone also mentioned how, despite getting old, people still stick with their unhealthy lifestyles, like eating fast food daily, getting extremely drunk every night, or having no proper sleep cycle. Time and again, research has stressed that a healthy lifestyle can not only help you feel better, but it can also reduce the risk of some diseases, lengthen your lifespan, save you money, and benefit the environment.
However, despite the warnings of experts, not everyone prioritizes their health as they actually should. In fact, studies have revealed the shocking truth that less than 3% of Americans have a healthy lifestyle. This just goes to show that there are very few people who are conscious about the kind of life they are living.
Not knowing how to cook.
You really just need to master a few dishes or techniques. You don't have to be a professional chef, just competent enough at some stuff.
I agree. And some stuff that are enough to feed yourself are just really simple, you can master them easily even if cooking is not your thing. Ffs, my child is 10 and he can cook very simple, basic dishes, how is it possible that an able bodied adult isn't incapable?
Load More Replies...Cooking simple meals is so easy that this should never be a problem for an adult, what has to go wrong that people don't have the skill to throw some stuff into a pan and heat it up?
It's amazing how the cycle of lack of life skills can be passed down. If your parents didn't know how to cook and clean then you likely won't either, nor will your children. I'm grateful my parents did both and insisted we learn to. Sexist parents who spoil their boys and think these are girl skills aren't doing the boys any favours.
Having your family pay for your bills / clean up after you.
Friend's older brother moved out right after university (ma and pa paid the downpayment on a house for him) and he brought all his laundry home for mom to do, had mom come clean his house weekly, and went home for breakfast and dinner almost every day that he didn't eat frozen meals. I lost so much respect for her parents. He is in his mid 40s now and still completely useless but has a good job so they say he's very successful. He pays a maid now instead of mom, at least.
Getting p**s a*s drunk every other night.
That's called alcoholism. And it's not good at any given time regardless how old people are
Some people also talked about how people refuse to mature with age, act childish, rely on others for everything, and never grow or learn anything from life. When some adults continue to cling to the carefree days of youth and find emotional and financial responsibilities challenging well into adulthood, it's called a Peter Pan syndrome.
Experts say that there are certain complex factors that can cause this syndrome like childhood experiences or economic factors. Although it’s more common in men, anyone can develop the behaviors associated with the syndrome. When someone realizes that they are suffering through it, it's always better to have it treated, isn't it?
Not having bedsheets on your mattress.
Taking payday loans to fund partying or travels.
Or excess student loans to do the same. Knew people that would take out thousands more than they needed and basically treated it as a credit card.
Told both girls "you probably shouldn't do that" when they both, working near full time and going to college, took out a few extra thou every semester. They are not complaining nor do either one want 'forgiveness' of the debt, but are paying about $10k more than they should have.

Son doesn't really hang out with the guy anymore.
Hitting on college-aged girls.
That wouldn't be a thing if the college-aged girls didn't respond. So either shame on both parties, or neither.
@Magenta Blu: if they are looking for you, you won't need to hit on them.

If you are in your 30s and live in the developed world and do not have poverty or disability as a factor... You should know how to use household appliances (Washer, Dryer, Dishwasher, Stove) If you do not have any clue how to use a clothes washer - or figure it out on your own (especially with the instructions on the lid like in the olden days) - I don't have the patience to teach you. Regardless of gender full-stop: if you are a guy and don't know how to wash clothes because "that is woman's work" then... Jesus I have to get out of West Virginia!
I'm ashamed for other men. I'm a man and nobody taught me how to cook or clean. Guess what? I figured it out (and it wasn't that hard).
Just like to point out, the washing machine my mother had when I was a child had a nice explanatory booklet. The washing machine I bought myself a couple of years ago came with a piece of paper that was more interested in saying "don't eat the little wash pellets" than what the bloody programmes actually do. I now know I can toss everything into the Magic40 programme and it'll be done in about an hour. This, by trial and error (the "proper" 30/40 cycle took three and a half freaking hours!). Oh, and no, a don't bother to sort colours - there's black, and black, and black, and maybe a few things that are black.
Haha I have never ever seen a real dishwasher... Only in bored panda articles. Same with room as, and modern vacuum machines. Maybe I'm too poor
I'd probably mess up loading a dishwasher too, never had or used one. The dishwasher around here goes by the name of "Rick".
Load More Replies...Thats my grandpa. He doesn't know how to load a dishwasher or do laundry. His wife does EVERYTHING for him & they're in their 70's. He bathes himself & that's about it. If I'm at their house, I help my grandma, bc my grandpa is too lazy to bother.

Having your mom make and manage your doctor's appointments.
I've got the opposite(?) problem. I have an 80-year-old mother who still TRIES to make my doctor's appointments. And then when *I* make them, she'll try to go with me to them. I am 43 years old. I have an appointment with an orthopedic specialist later today, actually (lifelong intermittent hip issue that has become chronic) and she is BIG MAD that I told her she is NOT accompanying me to the appointment XD EDIT to add: The reason why she even *knows* what's going on in my life at all is because I work at the family business, and I moved back home last October to escape an abúsive relationship. But my mom has always been up in my business all of my life.
I mean, it sounds sort of adorable too that she's involved and you always got her support.
Load More Replies...My twins just turned 18 this year. We have a few medical issues to navigate and I'm more than willing to help them transition. I mean...my dad has to beg me to go see a doctor but that's because I have the typical blue collar mentality and will fight going as long as I can, when I do finally go I just go to urgent care but I don't like doctors. I can show up looking like death from no sleep because of pneumonia or bronchitis and say "im fine"
Still eating fast food on a daily basis, still not sticking to a sleep schedule, still not drinking any water.
Fast food is cheap. Can't afford real food. It is fast food or not eating...
Where is fast food cheap? In my part of the world you can often eat a good meal in a sit-down restaurant for not much more than fast food.

I don't drink water, fish f*ck in it. (W.C. Fields.) But I really don't drink water. I grew up in the petrochemical crescent of the Texas Gulf Coast. The water was literally poisoned (We got letters from the City.) I learn to quench thirst and get needed liquids by drinking coffee, tea, soda (diet), Gatorade zero, Powerade Zero, and juices -- all of which have water as its main ingredient. I now live in Denver which has great water (snowmelt from the Rockies) but old habits die hard. I also don't have a set sleep schedule. I go to sleep when I'm tired; wake when rested.
Drunk driving.
Yeah, you'll only spill it. EDIT: OK, which moron downvoted me because they thought I was seriously suggesting that spilling beer is the reason to not drink and drive? Jesus F. Christ 🥴
I once heard of an elderly lady who never had a driver's license. Someone asked her why, and she replied "I always heard you shouldn't drink and drive, so I made the only logical choice."

Holding onto your teens/ early 20’s and dogging on your friends for growing up. We weren’t ‘living the good life’ we were just drunk. .
Speak for yourself. Some drinking was involved, but wasn't the whole purpose - that was being free, exploring, and learning without so much to lose. At a certain point however, you really need to grow up.
Or moving back to your hometown in your sixties to party with your high school friends who only work to fuel their alcohol -infused weekends.
Drama with your friends. leave that in school.
No growth of any kind since your 20s.
Having to cancel commitments or call in sick because they're too hungover.
This entirely depends. Didn't get drunk often and stopped all together in my twenties, then got drunk at a wedding in my thirties. I genuinely thought I was dying.

Anybody under the age of 40 who decides to smoke or vape has got to be an idiot. There's just no other way around it. I can give a pass to those using vapes to stop cigarettes, but otherwise it is tacky and trashy.

I'm not sure how it is in the US but in T&T that's a criminal offense and you will get jail time.
Knowing your zodiac sign but not your credit score.
US thing. A credit bureau keeps track of your loan and credit card repayment history, mortgages, bankruptcy and I believe even medical debt. You are give a score which is supposed to show your creditworthiness. There is no way to opt out of the system, it is fed information from those you borrow from (so, I guess technically you can opt out by not borrowing money. EVER.)

"I'll just leave a few minutes early tomorrow and get gas on the way to work".
It think this is just an example of leaving things to the last minute. Not planning ahead, being proactive to avoid causing an additional problem (like being late for work due not getting gas in a timely manner) and not thinking of the possible consequences or complications of an action/inaction. Procrastination is usually about anxiety. Failing to take into account how long something might take or possible delays isn't quite the same. It's more an indicator of poor time management and judgement.
No bed frame.
Nothing wrong with a mattress on the floor (with bedding). Sometimes that's the most comfortable way or what they can afford.
I sleep on a Japanese shikifuton on the floor! I've tried various Western beds over the course of my life and they just don't work for me. The shikifuton works for me XD
Load More Replies...For context: A western mattress straight up on the floor isn't ideal 'cos it can get moldy and nasty on the underside due to lack of air circulation. There are billions of people who sleep on mattresses on the floor. The important difference is that these mattresses are usually put away during the day, and flipped regularly to make sure air circulates all around them. For myself - my ideal sleeping arrangement has been a 4" thick mattress on the floor. Every morning I put it away. Every night I make sure I flip it around so it wears evenly. Back problems? Gone. Neck problems? Gone. Mobility from getting up and down off the floor? Improved. Cat? Happier with me at his level.
Works until age catches up to you and getting off the floor requires accessories.
I'm 63 and mobility impaired. But because of arm strength I can get up from my futon on the floor quite easily.
Load More Replies...Just make sure to air dry it regularly by standing it up for an hour or so to avoid mold. People perspire a LOT while sleeping (even if you don't visiblely sweat) and the bed frame allows air flow beath the mattress.
I completely fail to see how any of these are inherently related to age, certainly not restricted to people in their 30s.
The idea is that we give a little more leeway for foolishness to the younger set. They haven't been adults for as long as us oldsters, so it's presumed they'll make some mistakes. By the time you're in your 30s, it's presumed that you've learned your lessons.
