Photographer Uses Only His iPhone To Shoot Entire Wedding And The Results Are Magical

Professional photographer Sephi Bergerson always wanted to shoot and edit an entire wedding using only iPhone photography. The only problem was that he couldn’t find a couple brave enough to let him do it. Then, he came across Ayushi and Abhishek with their big fat 3-day Indian wedding in Udaipur in Rajasthan.

Bergerson used his iPhone 6s Plus. “What I like about the iPhone is it helps me get much closer to the subject and have eye contact,” says Bergerson. “With DSLR, the camera comes between me and the subject. iPhone photos won’t replace the DLSR ones, but it offers a completely new medium of wedding photography.”

Bergerson admits that it was tricky to get the wedding photos right under the low light, but the daytime pics were superb. “The kind of images that come out are somewhere between documentary or photojournalism and what I would call fine art, closer to paintings,” he explains. Bergerson has been photographing Indian wedding traditions in all their glory for seven years, and you can see the results in his new book “Behind The Indian Veil: A Journey Through Weddings in India.”

“It has been a dream of mine for a long time, to shoot a complete Indian wedding only on the iPhone”

“The problem till now was…finding the couple that will agree and allow me to shoot their wedding like this”

Finally, a brave couple agreed to have their 3-day wedding shot entirely with an iPhone

“Daytime pictures were fantastic, but the night still remained a bit tricky”

“There are so many filters and editing options. It gives instant gratification, much like the Polaroids of the 70’s”

“But low light photography was difficult…as the ISO limit was not letting me shoot without having motion blur”

“I had a hand-held LED light to help me get proper exposure”

“What I like about the iPhone is it helps me get much closer to the subject and have eye contact”

“The images that come out are somewhere between documentary or photo journalism and what I would call fine art, closer to paintings”

“If I give you a Jimi Hendrix guitar, you won’t be able to play like him. It is not about the gear”

Just a shame that you can hardly enlarge the pictures. Imagine you would want one of the pictures on the wall in maybe a poster size? you can't. Cause the pictures are taken with a sensor the size of an ant. Looks good on a screen in a small size. Enlarge it, and all you see are pixels. Please stop making people believe iphone is a good "camera". I work in a photography store, and people print pictures here, and gets mad at me when they realize you really cant print an iphone picture larger than A4 before the quality is potato.

Admitting, the quality of camera's on phones are improving and are very capable of nice prints. However, your post shows, the photographer is more important than the camera! Great post :) Cheers, Tieme But yeah, Nanna is right

Wow Peta - you need to be more careful with your headlines. While the story is news worthy, and the topic controversial - the images are not anywhere near close to magical, in fact they're pretty awful overall due primarily to the total loss of all shadow detail and control. Please be more responsible and less sensationalistic with your headlines and click baiting ;)

Hm... I'm not being negative but, if I had that kind of lighting, colorful setup, positive couple and everything in between, life would be ao much easier for a photographer even with an iPhone. Try shooting a 'sunset' but with like a 2 minute exposure with a Dslr as to a perfectly timed sunset with all the lights with an iPhone. Both can come up with great photos but I doubt an iPhone can do what the other did. But, who am I to talk. :)

Is it so I cant believe it but when you zoom in and see the picture you wont get the real quality like you usually get in a DSLR so please dont compare a DSLR with a I phone but this clicks are amazing and i really loved it. Just take a look at these quality pictures that was taken by professional photographers - https://bhalajephotography.com

Westerners always got something to say about photos, man awesome job ignore the negative people here bashing your skills, if people in the west choose to shoot a wedding with a 40,000 camera by all means do what you want but these shots are great and takes the hassles out of all the other stuff. im sure the shots here on the iphone blows away the others that shoot on there high end cameras, anyway its all about the light, and you can indeed blow them up if you want. the iphone camera mimic's the old school film cameras when blown up everything will be just fine. those people that chase the sharp lens and slr stuff this article is not for you, go and learn to appreciate the time captured before you start to bash what is shown, you still got to see some of the experience that happened and its better than that from 35 years ago.

The pictures are far from the ones took by a professional photographer. None of them show the emotions or the beauty of the moment... Sorry...

Beautiful bride, the beauty of the bride and everything else is captured amazingly. I love the quote about Hendrix, that is so true, no matter what you use, you can make something beautiful in whatever it is that you're passionate about.

The photos are beautiful! However, in my personal opinion a little too much filtering. The wedding's already got so much beautiful colors I would've wanted to show them in their true form (with slight enhancements). But this shows wonderful use of the iphone, it's all about the photographer's amazing skills to capture these moments though :)
