Being a parent is rough. Trying to juggle work, household chores and meeting all the needs of your children sometimes can get overwhelming. But it’s especially tough for parents who are raising children with disabilities. Luckily, there are still kind people in this world, who steps in to lend a helping hand.

Recently, a mother of two, Jessica Nash Donnahoo, shared a post she wrote to Spectrum Internet to praise their employee

Jessica, a part-time nurse, is raising two children – a three-year-old Sailor and two-year-old Sunny. However, her son Sailor is not an ordinary boy. After trying to conceive for quite some time, Jessica and her husband Drew was told that their only option is to adopt. That’s how Sailor came into their lives. But it didn’t take long for the family to notice Sailor’s health issues. “My son was born with two rare, unrelated brain defects: Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, or ONH, which means his optic nerves didn’t fully form in utero and he is blind as a result. The other is a Chiari Malformation. Sailor also has a seizure disorder. We have a team of pediatricians, neurologists, endocrinologist, ophthalmologist, and gastroenterologist who help follow his health closely,” Jessica told Bored Panda.

The mother said, that “Sailor has several developmental delays and is unable to communicate his needs, such as hunger, pain, etc. I try to meet all of his needs but, like any toddler, he is just sometimes unhappy.” One particular morning was especially tough for the little boy, he just couldn’t stop crying and his mom was overwhelmed with chores and taking care of his sister. The same morning an internet technician came to their home to upgrade the internet and as Jessica puts it, he walked into a “mess”. However, the technician named Robert did the best he could to help.

    “Dear Spectrum Internet,
Today your technician Robert came to our home to upgrade our internet and help us start up TV streaming. He walked into a mess. My son, Sailor, is three years old. He was born with two rare brain defects and he is blind. He is unable to communicate his needs, and today has been rough for him. He has been crying all morning. I’ve been trying to soothe him while also meeting the needs of my two year old daughter, cleaning, washing dishes, and doing laundry while my husband works. It’s just been a tough day. When Robert walked in and started talking, Sailor ran to him and reached up. Robert didn’t seem bothered at all and, instead, held my son off and on for the whole 45 minutes he was in our home. He snuggled him close while I folded laundry. It was a huge relief to this tired momma. Robert could have walked in, rushed, and left but instead he saw a need greater than internet and met it. That’s beyond customer service- it’s humanity at its best. Robert deserves a raise… a promotion… something! He’s an asset to your company and I will never forget his kindness.
    Sincerely,
    Jessica”

“Due to his blindness, Sailor has sensory issues and does not have a normal sleep/wake cycle. This means he can get very overwhelmed by certain noises and situations. He also often wakes up all through the night because he doesn’t know if it’s day or night. He had been up all through the night before this day,” Jessica explains why her little boy was so unhappy that morning.

The mother couldn’t hide her appreciation and decided to make a post about Robert’s kindness in hopes that Spectrum will see it. And the company actually reached out to her. “Rob actually works for a subcontractor but the VP of Spectrum Enterprises called me directly to thank me for the post and to report that they’re proud of Rob’s choice to step in and help with my son! The VP also has a special needs child and was touched by Rob’s act of kindness.”

Jessica is happy that so many people read this story. “I think that we live in a world where we are so overwhelmed with news of politics, violence, and drugs. I think this resonated with so many people because we all need to have our faith in humanity restored at times. This post about one complete stranger doing something so kind for another is proof that there still good people out there!” she said.

Wonderful man. And I seriously hope he got some money out of it. Not because I'd expect him to do it for getting extra money but because I believe that if employees are financially punished for doing their job badly, they should also be financially awarded when they go this much out of the expected in their work. Really heartwarming story.

Na we dont, as a tech of spectrum, we have some perks but not monetary extra for good reviews. But i love my job for the same reason, visiting house of all kind of people and metting them, some offer us meals or fruits or snaks, thats where i get my regular dosis of humanity

Please consider making it a habit of contacting management ANY time you get great service, anywhere. So many supervisors only hear from customers when things are going wrong. Being able to praise someone does everyone good - including you! I've lost count of the number of times I've done this; sometimes you hear back, and others you don't, but think of it as adding a little to the karmic balance of the world :)

If I were the VP of Spectrum, I would've reached out to Rob, personally, and offered him a corporate job with full benefits and a raise. I know that where I live, they have corporate field agents, and only call on the contractors when they need help in rural areas, or are overwhelmed with orders. It's also next to impossible to get hired on as a corporate field agent here.

Yes but being behind a desk all day will not necessarily give him the same satisfaction as working in the field. Just stick to the raise and let him,do the job he loves: being amongst people.

It is heartwarming to see something like this. In the current climate so many tradespeople who you have never met before would be treated with suspicion. It is natural human instinct to comfort a distressed child.

I hope they don't have the type of managers/execs that'd think "so you took 45 min for a 20 min job? I guess we need to let you go if you can't perform". I really hope for him they're not like that. I've seen that at a few companies where helping others are seen as you having too much free time ...

Wow, this mom must be overwhelmed! I can't imagine two children so young, let alone one with such difficulties. If she reads bored panda, I'd like her to know that if she started a GoFundMe for some respite care or at least a part time caregiver, I would be the first to donate!

That is such a sweet comment. Jessica is my daughter. Therefore, I am Sailor's Grandma. I have the absolute pleasure & blessing of helping to care for him & his sister while their parents work. Yes, it can be difficult at times, but I am blessed beyond measure! This child has changed not only our family, but me, forever!
