Principal Sends Letter To Students’ Parents Before Exams To Remind Them That There’s More To Life Than Grades

Exams are stressful not only for students but for their parents as well. After all, who wouldn’t like to see their kid receive an excellent grade, guaranteeing them a scholarship at a respectable uni? However, in the midst of this chaos, moms and dads sometimes forget that different personalities grow in different ways. So Zubair Ahmed Khan decided to remind them. The Principal of the International Indian School, Dammam, Saudi Arabia, recently wrote a wholesome letter to his students’ parents, pointing out that their children don’t have to perform well in every subject to be successful.

“As the Principal & HOI of IIS Dammam, I am delighted that the school’s values align with my own personal values, including the importance of [trust], respect, innovation and a sense of community… The future will build on these firm foundations focusing on the quality of school life, especially for the benefit of our learners,” Zubair Ahmed Khan said in a statement.

The principal reminded parents of Margaret Mead’s words, “Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.” To enable this in his school, he encourages a holistic approach which is best described as, “To motivate the weak, to address the average, and challenge the gifted.” According to Zubair Ahmed Khan, this is the vision of his school.

“A student [growing up] in such an atmosphere has every … possibility of becoming a responsible, balanced and mature adult and is able to contribute and support his environment [both] at home and in school. The parents are the most strengthening power in molding the future of children. Their consistent support empowers us to do more and more. I convey my gratitude to them for their faith in us.”

I wish my school did this. It can become really stressful for me when my parents expect top grades in every class and on every exam.

I love this! I suffered from serious test anxiety during college. I didn't get the best grades and unfortunately my grades didn't really reflect my intelligence what so ever. I fully understood the subjects and studied it just left my brain entirely as soon as that test was put in front of me.
