Although the majority of states that allow under-18s to marry forbid marriage for under-16s, there are 8 states that have no minimum age at all for marriage; it just needs parental consent.

I've been aware of of the American situation for decades, and it isn't all owing to Christian cultists. Supposedly progressive groups such as Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Children’s Law Center have all opposed bills to introduce age limits to marriage in California (one of 8 states with no minimum age requirements), with Planned Parenthood arguing that age limits would impede on the reproductive rights of minors and their ability to decide what is best for them, their health, and their lives, and the ACLU claiming that legislation intrudes on the fundamental rights of marriage. So, yes, America has a problem, too, but it's one that both the Left and Right don't want to fix, with each side using their own warped definitions of 'freedom' to justify the status quo.

One more thing, Becky. Regarding your comment to me that before getting outraged by "Islamic perverts" I should look closer to home because child marriage is still legal in the majority of US states; I am approximately 2,500 miles from Baghdad and 3,500 miles from New York. Iraq is 1000 miles closer to my home than is the US.
