Founded back in May 2020, the ‘WTF Facts’ Twitter account has been educating and entertaining internet users for nearly three years now. It’s carved out a sizeable niche for itself on the social media platform. At the time of writing, it had 270.8k followers.

The founder of the page posts new content every single day, so there’s always something for the fans of the project to look forward to. If you enjoy the facts, be sure to follow the account for the freshest posts.

One surefire way to stand out on the internet is to find a mix between education and entertainment, just like the ‘WTF Facts’ account does.

Internet users end up learning a lot of things they’d otherwise probably never have heard about. Meanwhile, they also end up enjoying themselves and sending the facts to their friends, classmates, and coworkers. (Personally, we like to keep a list of cool and bizarre facts in our suits to wow guests at fancy dinner parties whenever there’s awkward silence.)

At the same time, researching and double-checking absolutely every tiny tidbit of information can be incredibly time intensive. So you need to leave that for the fringe cases where your alarm bells are really ringing. In the meantime, try to evaluate the credibility of the source that’s publishing the information.

How trustworthy is the account, outlet, or reporter? How do they ensure the reliability of the information that they share? What does their track record look like?

The fact of the matter is that there are no perfectly reliable sources; however, this doesn’t mean that all sources are equal. Though everyone makes mistakes, professional outlets make fewer of them, make corrections, and acknowledge if they’ve accidentally misled their readers.

So it’s always best to opt for reliable sources like Reuters, Associated Press, or The New York Times that employ fact-checkers and editors. These are always better choices than random, extremely biased, clickbaity websites that only care about getting views at any cost.

There are some signs that indicate that some facts or claims might be fake. Some of the red flags that you should look out for include things like the information being incredibly outlandish or unheard of before, or the facts coming from a source that’s either disreputable or completely unknown.

You should also listen to your gut: if something sounds too good or too awful to be true, it might just be. Look for some other sources that might back up the claim before you repost it: it’s very easy for misinformation to spread in this day and age because there are more and more internet and social media users. Even doing some minimal Googling is better than blindly accepting everything as fact.

Meanwhile, keep in mind that as our attention spans are shortening, content creators and news outlets are having to adapt to the changing needs of their audiences. People prefer short-form content these days because that’s what they’ve been consuming. It’s all a bit circular.

So you end up having to condense a ton of information into bite-sized posts, meaning some context gets left out. At the same time, long-form content and in-depth analyses still have a place in the world for those who want to learn things in a nuanced way, instead of having a very black-and-white perspective on life. Long-form content also has the added bonus—it can help restore our attention spans and ability to focus.

I personally think being a good person and doing good deeds and kindness to others without any expectation of a reward or fear of punishment is far more virtuous than just doing it because you're afraid of hell and want to get into heaven (which sounds so paralysingly dull I don't even want to go there anyway).

Isn't it odd, Christianity, when studied in depth creates atheists. There is no harm in believing in a Cosmic Creator but when you add Christian dogma it portrays the world as an unrealistic nightmare with a Creator as a petty, vengeful tyrant. This destroyes a person's ability to believe. Humanity would do well to remember religions are fanfiction and IF a benevolent Creator existed it would accept the myths humans create until we learn enough to change it.

Amen to that! I believe RIchard Bach said, "God created man in his own image, then man returned the favor." Humans, especially humans in positions of power, attribute flawed human characteristics to God, jealousy, hate, vengeance. I know many people hate the idea of an omnipotent being because of the horrors inflicted on us all by those who presume to "represent" God, as if that were possible. For me, the absolute perfection of design in creation tells me there is someone/something responsible. The ability to feel love and empathy is my proof. I know it doesn't end here. This is just a chapter in a much larger book.

He ripped this off from Pascal's wager. Also Pascal's wager is famous or rather in famous for being severely wrong. Since it doesn't consider the chances of picking the wrong god. That is too say in this case there is a third option where Camus lives like there is a god. and when he dies he finds out that it is ala and not the christian god that actually exists and gets punished by believing in false gods.

It’s the same god. Islam, Christianity and Judaism all worship the same deity, they just don’t always call him the same thing. There might be an issue, with those, in following the wrong religious “law,” but not the wrong god. A better example would be God vs. Vishnu or Ra.

I don't think, like some of the commentary here, that this is because believing in God makes you behave better (we all know that isn't true) but that living with the belief that a higher power is looking out for you, listening to your prayers and generally guiding is a comforting thing to believe in, as opposed to going through life believing that nothing has any meaning and it's all a random lottery.

It does not necessarily follow that he was Christian or anything. To live simply as "if there is a God" is to live a just life doing the best you can, for yourself, your family and the people around you. I have no god myself, and do not believe in any religion, but I would like to think I am a good person doing good things. I don't need a book of rules to tell me what to do.

Coraline P

So this quote is for those people who say they strive to be good regardless of a god… I did not think of him saying it that way before. And it’s not a book of rules. Not the whole thing. The Old Testament is before Christ, before we could reach God easily. There were awful Pharisees following the rule book just to be showy… but that’s not what it should’ve been, or should be about. I wish people didn’t see it that way

Man....... I'm atheist and I'm probably a better "Christian" than most people going to church every Sunday. I help others for a living (nurse), I've never done drugs or cheated in a relationship, I don't gamble or live well beyond my means, I haven't killed anyone, I don't spank my (now grown) kids or prostitutemyself etc. So if your fictional God wants to sit up there and judge me, denying me access to heaven because I didn't "have him in my life" (which I HAVE been told by Christians will happen), he really doesn't sound all that forgiving and loving, so........ not a guy I'd want to hang out with anyway 🤷‍♀️

God gives us hope .You don't need to live according to him becos there is no way to do that just remember him that he is with you ,always. You need to realise that no matter how much a person has achieved in his / her life they will eventually become old and die like everyone else.We humans think ourselves as supreme but there is a higher power above us believe it or not (Be it any religion).

In my English class we watched a The Bible Project video on Ecclesiastes, and that book’s main message is about hevel, how everything we work hard to obtain or attain on this earth amounts to nearly nothing when we die. Hevel can mean meaningless, or something that’s an illusion. Death is the equalizer. Whether you are wise or a fool, rich or poor, you will eventually die and 100 years from then you will be forgotten by the world

Looks like a computer chip. The lack of greenery is actually kind of sad, but I guess that's because I've never lived in a huge city

At age 90 she sold her apartment for the right of occupancy and 2,500 francs a month. She outlived the purchaser by 2 years and received more than twice the value of her apt. She quit smoking at age 117, she stopped bicycling at age 100 after breaking her leg - she recovered and continued walking - she lived alone from age 88 until she was 110 and was forced into a nursing home because that winter the pipes froze in her apt (her hands became frost-bitten)

That's not a thing, but a very regional tradition. I've only heard about incidents like that some places in Jutland. Depends on the culture in the friend group.

'Sex slave'..... let's call it what it actually is. Had the situation been reversed then the correct terminology would have been used. Rape is rape. It's non consensual intercourse.... it's rape.

My wife and I were visiting Tokyo and a new friend offered to take us to a museum and show us a fun day. But he only owned a motorcycle. On the day, he picked us up in a car. He said he drove 4 hours one way to borrow it from his parents. I said, “ Oh, so they live outside Tokyo?” He said, “No, still in Tokyo.”

In the US these days, that building might be gerrymandered into three different Congressional districts.

Maybe cheap white bread, but some e.g multi grain/seeded can be a good source of protein as well as vitamins and minerals

I just want to know what it's about. Not watch it. The wisest advice ever said "What you see cannot be unseen."

He's not illiterate but this challenge has a sort of manipulative undertone. It's not like neither have not done charity work. Both have.
