that sort of stuff isn't supposed to be taken literally - it's a visual shorthand movies use, much like background music or color filters, to convey information instead of weighing down the movie with boring exposition dialogue.

That's something a lot of people don't understand about cancer, is that it can last for YEARS. There are some forms that will carry a person off in a matter of months, but others that can be fought for years as Boseman had to. I've even heard of people battling with hemotological cancers for 15-20 years. And a person with these cancers has to go on with their life the whole time, raising children and earning a living, maybe even having the kind of success he did, while dealing with cancer the whole time. We just never know what other people are going through.

And all the while people talked s**t about his weight loss and appearance and speculated publicly and even talked s**t about being too skinny and sending a bad message to teens n kids.....all because he chose to keep this to himself.. which is 100% his right. The problem is the people who think they're entitled to every aspect of celebrity lives and when they don't get the details they speculate, spread rumors and even shame ppl... and even people who have fucken cancer. This should be a lesson to everyone out there.

He really pushed through so much filming these movies. My father passed away from Colon Cancer and was in so much pain and it weakened an otherwise strong man. I just wish Boseman didn't hide it, especially towards the end. He could have helped create awareness during that time. But I get it. There should be more awareness about it. He got cancer so young and people should learn how young you can get it. Watch out for symptoms and get colonoscopies when you can. I now have colonoscopies every 3-5 years depending on the polyps they find.

She essentially saved Star Wars - she retooled it so it looked like the Death Star's attack on the Rebel base was imminent, thus justifying the Rebel attack on the base and destroying it (along with countless innocents working there just doing their jobs). It was not initially filmed that way - watch carefully next time - it was all done in post with key lines added in post where you hear the characters but don't actually see them speak.

You know there are excellent male film editors, too, right? Or are you under the impression that men can't art good because dangly penis? One woman having a perfect vision for this film because of her experiences with the films she previously edited is more reflective of the types of films she was asked to work on before and the editing they required vs. typical action film editing, not wOmEn bRaIn vs. mEn BrAiN. Yes, men and women are biologically different if that's what you need to hear, but we're not THAT f*****g different.

There is a saying that people suffering from depression are the best comedians - as they know best what it feels like to be in need of being cheered up. And while this is, of course, grossly oversimplified, Robin Williams was a prime example.

See that would make me feel even worse... like "F**k. I don't wanna make you feel like that.. I don't wanna contribute to this being 'another day' in the life of a POC in a world full of racists...." but then again it's a movie and that was such a huge part of the movie to set the tone of the times. But I've always thought about that though. Like, I don't think I could do it. I get upset when I hear a white person use the N word and there aren't even POC around. I couldn't imagine saying it to a POC ... so many times. Or listening to it being directed at a POC... that's rough. But the story needs to be told and it made me so uncomfortable.. as it should have.

During the press junket for the movie, I was working as a news producer at the Fox affiliate in Houston. The station's entertainment contributor (at the time), a very young, *very* white man, interviewed Jackson (in person) and brought up the topic as part of his questions. What followed was a very awkward standoff as Jackson goaded him relentlessly to just "say the word". https://youtu.be/MZgEM9r5p7Q

Some people tend to dismiss learning new and interesting facts as a waste of time because today you can find any information you need with just a few Google searches. However, when a person is asked a trivia question that they know the answer to, they suddenly perk up and feel engaged.

One of the reasons behind this is simply that answering a trivia question provides us with a thrill. “You get a rush or a neuroreward signal or a dopamine burst from winning,” John Kounios, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Drexel University in Pennsylvania, told Healthline

“I think whenever you’re challenged with a trivia question and you happen to know it, you get a rush. It’s sort of like gambling.”

This is not surprising to anyone who has even a vague understanding of anything. What is surprising is how much unnecessary fluff Hollywood added to the films, yet how much important stuff they left out! The short cinema versions leftnhuge plot holes like the gifts from Galadriel just appearing in their possession!

Nobody expected it to actually be good. If you look at the film it's essentially a very well-crafted parody of Disney musicals. Nobody expected an ogre falling in love with a princess who is also sometimes an ogre with an annoying talking donkey banging a dragon at some point to be a bloody masterpiece.

For anyone who’s wondering if you have to be smart on many different levels to be good at answering quiz questions, Kounios said that people aren’t necessarily better at trivia games just because they’re more educated. “Some people soak up facts,” he continued. “Plenty of people with a lot more education may not remember what they had for breakfast yesterday morning.”

“In typical people, my observation, not backed up by any research, is that their interest in trivia is confined to topics that they are generally interested in,” the professor added. “So if a person is very interested in history, then they may either seek out history trivia, or they might just naturally pick it up in the course of learning about nontrivial aspects of history.”

Definitely not a random extra though - and Scorsese had other reasons to think she'd be an actress: Her father is Bruce Dern and her Mother is Diane Ladd. Her mom was nominated for an Oscar for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (and won the BAFTA).

Wonder if they debated the whole adoption theme? Asians rarely adopt outside bloodlines. It's why there are so many Chinese and Korean adoptees in America. American culture accepts adoption from any country

They also have so many adoptees in China because of the one/two child policy and the forced abortions on those that don't adhere to the law. Babies girls are not valued like boys and so will be abandoned or given away so that the couple can try again for boy. Most Chinese babies adopted in the US or other nations are girls. Sad reality, but true.

My husband & I saw it opening weekend. We were laughing & high fiving our way to the car. A couple walking towards up asked which movie we had seen and in my best "Sean Penn from Fast Times" voice said, Kung Fu Panda. There were obviously no children with us (we ARE the children) so they just kinda stared and then walked away. Not sure what year that came out, but I'm 58 & he's 63.

The makers of the 1971 W***y Wonka and the Chocolate Factory used geese that laid golden eggs in that scene, precisely to avoid having to train the squirrels, as it was the only possibility at the time. Now in the CGI era, a director who decided to go practical is incredible... [edited: I just noticed BP censored "W***y" on W***y Wonka... WHY??]

Well, Goetz wasn't charged with war crimes as such, but the Nazi's learned that he stole goods from murdered Jewish people. That wasn't a problem for the nazi's, but the fact that he didn't give the goods to the Reich but kept them in his own posession was a problem. He was charged with theft from the Reich. This was at the end of the war though, and the allied forces took over control shortly after his imprisonment. He was sentenced to death for murdering tens of thousands of people after the war.

Golden retrievers aren't hunting dogs as such, they are gun dogs. Their job is to retrieve prey that has been shot down. Still fits, though

Because most of King's works were translated into utter crap. Only a very few translated from the book to the movie. If you read the books prior to the movie, you know why everyone says "the book was better". They got this one dead on though.

Unfortunately, this brings up a movie trope I find annoying. "Titanic" unfolds as the reminiscences of the elderly Rose, but it chock full of events the younger Rose would have no knowledge, like this one and the doomed mother telling her doomed children a bedtime story.

I was in a play with a goat. He was an unweaned goat, and his mother was kept offstage. The reasoning was that he would always be pulling in the same direction -- towards his mother -- and so would be predictable. He was good at breaking loose, but the actors I was working with were so good at staying in character while chasing him that it seemed like it was all part of the show. Man, I miss that troupe.

Then, one day, she changed channel to Mrs Doubtfire, and for the first time in a long time, she laughed. She said the film was her first step to recovery xxx

    1. The movie isn't even out yet. 2. There are many different Batman comic books, written/drawn by many different people. Each version brings its own unique style. I'm pretty sure there was even a comic where Batman was an actual bat.

I don't buy this one. A single MUA charges more than that for just one day of work - you cannot convince me that a film with a $5m budget paid less for a month of film makeup than it did for a day's worth of craft services. Literally the only way this is true is if all the MUAs full-on volunteered not only their time but their supplies, because $250 wouldn't even buy a months worth of makeup (especially 5x per day) even if they did all their shopping at the drug store.

I used to do Hair and Makeup in Hollywood. A - they wouldn't schedule scenes where they have to go back and forth in looks in one day. That kind of work takes way to long to do that. The actors would be miserable. Their skin jacked up because they'd be constantly adding and removing looks. B - that $250 was likely a "kit fee" which is what they were given to replace their stock. They were still paid their day rates. They wouldn't have worked for free. There are definitely people who do just to get their foot in the door but no Hair/MUA would sign on for a film with that much star power for $250. Department Heads may have negotiated points in the profit after the film was released. However, that would be an unusual thing for crew to get. It's very common for top actors to waive their salary for points because they'll make way more that way. If you already have millions you're not going to suffer until the film comes out.

The fake hobbit feet from the "Lord of the Rings" movie were much more convincing! And yes, the actors who played had rubber prosthetics on their feet for the longer shots, the things were tough and protected their feet like shoes, in all those scenes set out in the woods or rocks.

People here are being very silly. He’s not being a “tenderfoot” or “being weak”. He is working and with workplaces comes occupational health and safety regulations. I think you find most workplaces with appropriate OHS regulations and insurance will require the same thing because they don’t want any liability. It is called risk mitigation.

I’m really puzzled by some folks calling out Chris Evans for protecting his feet. He’s not stupid or weak for this, he’s sensible and smart. I am a fan of going barefoot (I went barefoot most of my childhood) and yes it’s perfectly possible to go barefoot safely and comfortably once your skin has toughened up. But that takes time which Evans likely didn’t have, hence the protection. This doesn’t make him a “pussy” or in any way less than any other person. Have any of you critics looked up his work out regimen for building his body up for this movie? Not a program for the faint of heart!

I can't say I'm surprised. They did the same thing for at least one of the episodes of the Incredible Hulk. It was when he had to be running up and down Times Square. While I'm sure effects can hide it better, it's still better to do that than have the actor get hurt.

It's not particular people that are the issue, but the belief system built around them. For example the belief that we are self-made and being rich or poor is a matter of personal qualities.

The scene was filmed after 'Avengers Assemble' had been released in the UK and therefore was never in the original UK cinema release. Chris Evans had to hide his face in this scene as he'd grown a beard for a different role (Snowpiercer, I believe).

Glad I still have a copy of the original. I hate when they edit old TV and movies just to 'get with the times'. No, show me it all in its original horrifically offensive glory. I'm an adult, I can decide for myself, I don't need others censoring things for me.

they didn't edit it just to 'get with the times'. A Canadian TV network edited their broadcast of it to accommodate the ads and the time they had available for the broadcast. AND it was done in 2014, before he ever thought of running for President.

Without him there would be no MCU, he was one of the person who had a final say in the decision of casting of Tom Holland as Spider Man and we've seen how that ended with No Way Home grossing over 1B in 2 weeks which never happened for any other movie beside Avengers End Game. We were all sick and tired or reboots especially the Spiderman ones so RDJ being IN the 1st installment of the Spiderman "Home" trilogy, with his star power and influence is a big deal. Also don't forget that Terrence Howard was paid 4M to play Rodhey in Iron Man I and RDJ ONLY 500K. And that technically the better paid actor pro ratio in the MCU was (is?) Paul Bettany for being the voice of JARVIS and then Vision.

... this identifies great personality, self esteem and generally strength of mind - that you sue people who even dare to be accused of modeling some laughable after you. I bet he'd be even more successful if he threw himself on the ground and started punching and kicking it and everyone who interferes. I've seen that kind of behaviour before, and among his own ones, within the peers, those doing so got into a position of power ... they even got chances to chose, like, which board game was to play, or who'd get to use the large building blocks, or who is to chose first in case they need a new pair of pants - during beating up the other kids, you can totally forget that you just got out of diapers and let it flow, due to more important things being to be done. I guess Vlad here knows what I'm talking about much too well, and therefore, he takes things on another level, a higher level - he craps himself, publicly broadcast on TV, if Warner Bros does't obey.

George Lucas has talents as a film-maker, but one of them is not writing dialogue. As Harrison Ford once observed “George, you can type this sh!t, but you sure can’t say it.”

I can't believe that anyone blamed her for her performance in those movies, everyone knows that George Lucas is "the worst actor's director alive"! Young actors who work with him are sunk, it's only the old pros like Ian Mc Diarmuid who can excel in his movies, they have so much experience that they don't need a director.

Always one to play the Devil's advocate, I really don't see why Bardem's performance in this film was especially noteworthy/Oscar-worthy. He put a blank look on his face and never changed his expression, he delivered all his lines in the same deadpan manner, he shot what he was supposed to shoot without breaking stride. It really seems to me that all the menace in this character was the result of the writing and direction.

Oh, it never would have happened, Diana wasn't trained as an actor, and she wouldn't have wanted to work long hours for the months of filming. But by the time they hired a real actress for the job, both she and Costner would have gained some great publicity.

maybe just for the cameo? for opening scene VIP (where the bodyguard delivered Princess diana to safety, and he will assign to the next job - the real story) or end credit scene (where the main story ends and the bodyguard meet Princess Diana as his next assignment - credit roll)

This is also a reason why there are many police series on TV, and to an extent medical series: Police officers are an "everyman"-figure/literary device, for the viewer to see through their eyes, and they can enter ANY house and ask ANY (relevant) question, which allows more freedom for writers to discuss any subject.

The ending is supposed to be ambiguous - why do people not understand that? The top starts to wobble slightly before the blackout, so those who want a "happy" ending can have one, but it is never shown stopping because we are supposed to be unsure about the reality of the scene.

I'm so glad they did that. The MCU is 100 times better than anything Sony made with DC. Even Spiderman with Tom is amazing in the MCU while it sucked before. And don't get me started on Quicksilver, who rocked in the MCU.

See you just don't find many companies these days that will keep staff on that long. Company loyalty FTW (please note sarcasm mixed with some frustration that job insecurity/casualisation is the mainstay of many business models to keep employees wages and conditions as low as possible)

Agreed and one reason why I love the movie. The character nuances and the fact that you really do not have black and white just all the moral grey areas that are the hallmarks of humankind. I just saw Rorschach as a terribly traumatised person whom had been abused dreadfully as a child and was trying to make sense of a world that he saw through the filter of that trauma/abuse. Working with childhood trauma/abuse survivors I can see how some people would view him as heroic because he gets to enact the, seemingly consequence free, vengeance they seek on perpetrators that they cannot

Unfortunately it made no sense. There's a washer, there's a hamper with clothes, etc. It's clearly where a dryer should be and suddenly there's an out of place table with an even more out of place pizza box. Maybe just watch movies with your children and teach them about real and fantasy and the dangers of hiding in a dryer?

Phoenix's Joker is the one whose makeup should have looked like he did it at home. Ledger's makeup should have looked like he did it at home days ago and he hasn't slept and has been in a few fights since, which takes a little more work.

Terrible actor. Only time he excels is playing A-holes (Mallrats) or someone on the spectrum (Accountant). Otherwise he's always been a mediocre actor playing on his supposed good looks. Guy's an as*hat in real life.

Yeah no... NC-17 is a death knell for films. PG-13 and R is the sweet spot. Everyone likes to talk artistic vision but the fact remains that films do have to be successful.

You would be correct. It's all part of the idiotic Hollywood clique who perpetuate the myth that acting requires actual experience of a thing before you can portray it. It's utter nonsense, but I suppose it gives them something to feel important and special about.

Morgan freeman and Denzel washington are great actor not because they are black. if anyone chose to not watch a movie because actor are not white they're dumb as f**k
