We’re about to blow your minds. Time… it changes everything! And different things are, well, they’re different! [Gasp.] “No way!” you’re probably thinking sarcastically while rolling your eyes and snorting with laughter. Here’s the thing, though—we’re not fully aware of how much time changes people, things, and technology while we’re stuck in our daily routines. And even though we theoretically know that some things are far bigger than others, it’s not the same as seeing it with your own two eyes. It takes a great comparison photo to highlight the immense differences.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Gee whiz, I wonder how Abraham Lincoln looked before and after the American Civil War” or, “I wonder how big a wombat really is,” then this is the list for you, our dear Pandas. If, however, you’ve never entertained thoughts like that, well, this list is perfect for you, too, because you’re about to see some amazing stuff!

Bored Panda has collected some of the most interesting comparisons to show you, so scroll on down, enjoy, and upvote your fave pics. From before-and-after pics of how time changes things to incredibly cool side-by-side comparisons of small and huge things, you’re gonna wanna share ‘em with your friends. Meanwhile, you’ll find our other recent interesting comparison posts here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part4.

Wow... You inspire me to keep up the fight for my health. At 52 yrs old & 277 pounds, it's easy to just say f**k it. But, that's not what I really want. Seeing your transformation makes me think that maybe I should keep trying & possibly take a different approach. Thanks... I appreciate you & your successes.

Bored Panda spoke about aging and what has the biggest impact on how people’s looks change over time with redditor Zbf, founder and moderator of the ‘13 or 30’ Reddit community. Zbf has become a real expert on aging and looking young because of the content the subreddit focuses on.

Zbf explained to us all about how our lifestyle impacts how young or old we look. “Drugs, alcohol, and smoking have the largest impact on making someone look older than they are. Getting enough sleep is beneficial in keeping a youthful appearance,” the subreddit founder pointed out that it’s not just what we avoid but also what we do that helps contribute to looking like the years have barely touched us.

However, looking young doesn’t just depend on our actions. Genetics plays an important role, too. “Some people are born with features that make them look older or younger than they are when they get to a certain age. We’ve all heard the term ‘babyface.’ At the end of the day, it’s all a matter of perspective,” Zbf said.

In other words, some people are bound to look young no matter how much time passes. Meanwhile, others have more mature features or they appear to age more rapidly. The same genes, passed down along generations, can make someone look just like their great-great-grandmother, for instance.

The comparison pictures from China are far more amazing. There were a couple of cities where before quarantine, the smog was so thick that you can barely make out the outline of high rises. Ten days into quarantine, it was so crystal clear you could see mountains further in the distance. One report I read said during last March, the Earth’s atmosphere was the healthiest it has been in something like 50 years.

According to Zbf, having a so-called ‘babyface’ can have some unintentionally hilarious and embarrassing consequences. They recounted a story about a guy and his girlfriend who were both in their 20s. The woman looked extremely young and kept getting embarrassed at restaurants because she’d always get the kids’ menus.

Patrick the Wombat! This 29-year-old wombat is the world's oldest living wombat. Given that Patrick has never had children or any partners in general, probably makes him the oldest living wombat virgin as well. Congrats mate.

As the saying goes muscle weighs more than fat. That is one reason why it is recommended not to just focus on what the scales say but also focus on how your clothes fit, your energy levels etc.

BMI is a terrible measurement of health. I had a health check up once they said I was obese according to my BMI but also that my waist was way too small. I'm just super curvy. It really depends on where your fat is, which is hard to tell without actual medical scans. Organ fat is the main issue

As an elderly person, I sometimes despair about what the world will be like for younger people and future generations, because we humans have generally done such a terrible job of taking care of our earth. This gives me new hope and optimism for how the world might make a comeback! Beautiful and inspiring.

People saying this should be done to the Sahara really need to read a bit about global climate. Deserts play a big role in climate regulation. I would need more background information on the photo to judge. Where are they getting the water from? Was this supposed to be a forest and was deforested or was it meant to be a desert?

To be honest, as a photographer I must say they lighting is very different in these two pictures. You wouldn't say it because they have the same color but if you look at the shadows by the eyes and lips and under the nose... Good lighting works a little bit like a modern day filter and evens out wrinkles etc

Yeah, they're claiming that the £30 is going towards packaging and delivery costs as well as the food. That's crap. My company sent out thank you packages for Xmas that (I checked on the website later) cost around £28, plus £3.99 p&p. So slightly over £30. These packages included wine, luxury biscuits, savoury snacks etc. Granted, you couldn't make meals out if it, but if a bottle of wine costs less than TWO SODDING CARROTS, I want to know where the heck this farm is so I can avoid overpriced vegetables.

The issue of deforestation is much too large to blame on only one part of the planet... While some countries are definitely less guilty than others, the entire world is in this together... It's not 'their" problem, it's "our" problem, and we have to work as a planet to stop it.

Not really. The teeth only hurt a little one day after you get a new thread in the braces. I have braces for one and a half year now and my teeth have made the same progress. Now we’re working on my lower teeth. One more year to go.

Years ago I read about a rock climber who lost both lower legs in a car accident. So he had a variety of prosthetics made for various climbing situations, including a set with adjustable lengths. So he could be short or tall, depending upon the need.

Pretty sure that's from a juvenile Blue Whale. A full grown Blue Whale heart is much larger. In fact, if yougo to the Daily Mail article this picture was taken from the scientists actually said "'It's quite a bit smaller than we were expecting.'"

Yes and no. It is a real heart in that it was removed from a blue whale that had washed up on the shore. The heart then underwent a preserving process to protect it. More details can be found here: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4524460/Preserved-600-lb-blue-whale-heart-1-000-years.html

Actually this type of treated wood is supposed to age and end up grey colored like on the left. For some reason though people insist on wanting to keep the "wood color" on the right. That's why they do sanding on them, which actually is not good for the material. Edit: Alright, this is fun. Here is small lesson on natural wood cladding materials: https://www.russwood.co.uk/cladding/weathering/. THE quote on the landing page reads: "Weathering - When Russwood timber cladding is uncoated, it will weather over time to a beautiful shade of silver-grey, providing a subtle, natural look which blends in to the natural environment."

I saw a documentary on TV that explains this. Apparently it's because the dyes in them reflect light differently depending on the light source. This is because the colours that are in the light are different so get absorbed by the dye or reflected differently. They showed a company who checks the dye of the yarn they buy for their socks under a machine that replicates four different light sources and one dye they showed looks pinky brown in one light, greeny gray in another, just like the shirt in the picture above. In daylight it's kinda greyish

Indeed, and is market-dependent since decades. Germans strongly prefer the orangey version, just like many think brown eggs are healtier (comparison with brown bread which is!) so the market adjust --- feed them marigolds and pronto deep-orange. Other countries like the yellow because it feels 'cleaner'. I remember when eggshells were all white, and my grandparents shunned brown bread (which was priced cheaper --- white=luxury!)

I worked in a restaurant that used only eggs from a local, free-range farm. It's not just the color of the yolk - free-range eggs are bigger and taste better.

I've read labels that say free range or eco but they feed the chickens a diet entirely made of grains. The really good egg comes from bird that eats grass and bugs.

Wolves' paws are bigger in comparison to their bodies than dogs' paws are. One contributing factor to the werewolf legend was that Europeans saw huge wolf prints and thought the wolf must be huge - as big as a person.

Not what an MRI scan does, you're thinking if PET scans. MRI is pretty much just a more useful kind of X-ray using magnetic fields to produce sliced images of the body.

    Robert Thornburrow

4 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

The colour (well shade of grey) relates to the density and the scale can be changed to show quite small differences in density. I have one of my spine which shows one of the vertibrae as completely black, due to a tumour. White is higher density and black lower. Black can be a void (air) or just something that is less dense depending upon how the scale is set. It is also possible to invert the scale, but in this picture the white is the skull and the black next to it is the fluid surrounding the brain, so the black eye is either full of air or a fluid similar to that surrounding the brain. Normal eyes contain a jelly like fluid.

My neighbor's house had icicles that reached the ground recently. They're gone now (temperatures got warmer), but still.

Growing up, my house used to produce icicles like this. They would eventually reach ground level and many times there would be so many of them, A wall would form between the overhang and the house. When we were small, we could hide between them and the house. How I survived so many things in childhood, I'll never know.

Condos in DC fuçking suck, and there’s really no price point with which they stop sucking. From the $1000 / month crappy studios to the $5000 / mo “luxury” units, there’s always some stupid flaw and there are an abnormal number of tiny, crappy bathrooms even in the most exclusive buildings. (For buyers, these places are all at least a quarter mil). Look at how close that toilet is to the tub too - even though you can see the place is remodeled it’s still awful. I’ve been in DC area real estate for over a decade and I’m hoping the breaking point for uninspired and almost spiteful design is on the way.

Vitamin A in carrots is fat soluble (in other words, it is stored in your body fat). That means you CAN overdose on it. My daughter went on a carrot-eating crusade when she was younger and when her palms started looking orange is when I stopped her. This is potentially dangerous.

My mum turned my brother completely orange when he was just starting to eat baby food. He refused everything, except the carrots. The doctor just told her to stop feeding them to him and he would return to his natural state. He also advised that if he wouldn't eat anything else, give it time - he'd eat when he was really hungry. Not sure if doctors could get away with the starving part of that advice today, but in 1965, I guess this was acceptable advice.
