We’ve compiled a list of visual trivia for you to munch on. A few of them are life essentials, like picking the right apple and laundry cycles. You may also come across a handful that may come in handy one day, like Germany’s cultural do’s and don’ts or pricing psychology tips to help you sell more stuff.

Equity is what the German health insurance system tries to achieve: Everybody pays the same % of their wages (14,7 if I am not mistaken) into the insurances, but everybody receives the treatment they need, independent from how much you put in. The system is not flawless, of course, because of many reasons. One of them is that higher wages can opt out (they may not return if the wages drop!) and lower wages are more impacted by a percentage than higher. The Dutch try a different approach, everybody pays the same for basic cover (no opt out).

Research has shown that humans naturally process information with visual input. It’s why it is easier for us to read instructions with photos and graphics than in text blocks.

According to the National Library of Medicine (NLM), articles with a visual abstract are three times more likely to draw views.

In digital marketing, infographics tell stories. The goal is to turn “complicated” information into something visually appealing and easily understood.

Getting to that sweet spot of images, charts, and texts is key to an infographic’s aesthetic appeal. There must be a balance between data visualizations, words, and pictures.

Experts advise limiting small texts to titles that stand out. Annotations should be concise, and bullet points should be used to enumerate items.

It makes a huge difference when you are only playing for health care, and not having to provide profits for health care companies. Imagine what would happen is all of the people involved in 'health care' in the USA actually were providing patient care, rather than financial care of businesses. Think of all the people working in insurance, billings, debt collection, etc. Now imagine them retrained as nurses, radiographers, pharmacists, physios, surgeons, doctors, dentists...

That math isn't mathing. 118.3M workers x $1500 a year for the 4% premium ( I rounded up) comes to $178 Billion. 2024 Medicare and Medicaid budget is $1.4 Trillion.

All ya gotta do in the USA is say a 2% tax hike and they go batshit crazy! "I"M NOT PAYING THAT FOR SOME RANDO TO HAVE HEALTHCARE!!!" Yet they'll pay 12 K a year PLUS (!) deductables in the thousands because of course they'd rather pay out the wazoo than pay a little more in tax just to make the libs cry!

Incredibly oversimplified and not real cause and effect. For instance Single payer does not take into account negotiating a consistent, fair price for all. In the direct payer scenario, the person who makes $80,000 a year could be charged for an office visit $300 or more because 'they can afford it's mentality and business practices. The other method provides a 'contractual' synopsis that equalizes cost. So the patient who is only making $10,000 is given the exact same treatment without prejudice.

Jess Smith
Community Member

Another oft-overlooked part is this: it's cheaper for everyone. Regular people don't need to pay exorbitant bills. Businesses don't need to, either, and money they might've spent paying healthcare bills can pay other things. And, counterintuitively, it's cheaper for the government, too! Take Sweden, an elderly country, as a comparison. In 2022, it spent 113 billion krone on healthcare.[1] Given Sweden's population of about 11 million, that works out to 10,300 krone, or a little over $1,000 per person[2]. The US government currently pays a little over $5,000 per person (of course, it pays $0 for many people, this is an average).[3] The only people who don't like it are Big Pharma and insurance. That's it. For EVERYONE ELSE, it delivers affordable, high-quality healthcare, at reduced cost to businesses, taxpayers, AND the government. It's a perfect deal. Win-win-win. But we won't do it. ***SOURCES AND REPLICATION INFORMATION*** Data sources are as follows: [1] sweden.se/life/society/healthcare-in-sweden, [2] measuringworth.com/datasets/exchangeglobal/, enter '2022' as start and end year and pick Sweden as the country [3] cms.gov/data-research/statistics-trends-and-reports/national-health-expenditure-data/nhe-fact-sheet. Conveniently, all data is for 2022. I recommend having a calculator to crunch the numbers for you. The US population figure for 2022 is derived from Google's infobox, which ends in 2022. Note that the Census agrees it was about 333 million people: census.gov/newsroom/press-kits/2022/2022-national-state-population-estimates.html. The Swedish population was from Google, confirmed by checking scb.se/en/finding-statistics/statistics-by-subject-area/population/population-composition/population-statistics/pong/tables-and-graphs/population-statistics---summary/population-and-population-changes/. Population figures rounded. The way I got the numbers was by taking Sweden's number in krone and dividing it by the population of Sweden, then converting that per-capita number to US dollars. For the US, I took the Medicare and Medicaid figures, added them, and divided them by the US population. Be careful not to misplace zeroes when replicating, and thank you for trying to replicate and do a vital and often undone duty of fact-checking :).

In the US, it really depends what kind of job you have. I have a unionized job with a good contract and pay about $200 for my health insurance per month, and it's the top tier plan. The employer pays the rest. In Germany, I would pay about $1100 a month. Even with co-pays, I'm better off with my US health plan, and the medical care is excellent. The problem is that not everyone has a good health care plan, and that dependents add a lot of cost to the monthly pay.

The current system (in US) should also include that businesses also spend a lot of money on administering and negotiating their health plans.

This is completely incorrect. It doesn't account for tremendous amounts of waste, inefficiency, and bureaucracy that are inherently in single payer models. Nor does it show the years spent on waiting lists attempting to access single payer healthcare. I am in Canada, the most single payer of all systems. Our health system frequently offers Medical Assistance in Death (euthanasia) to patients as a viable alternative to waiting.

Is there a chart of how much meat per animal is tossed every day? Separate for "could not be sold" and "customer didn't eat it and forgot to use the freezer". Killing animals for food is not always and in general bad, but if you kill it, you have to eat it. Otherwise it is not only an economical stupid thing to do, but foremost a crime against animals and abusing nature.

Khazar saber? Cool! The Khazars, by the way, *converted to Judaism*, a poor move in terms of persecution but really nice as usually people are converting away from us. Allegedly they were quite nice to Muslims and Christians as well but are now the basis for an absurd theory that modern Jews aren't 'real' Jews due to intermixing with the Khazars, and thus, claims of being indigenous to Israel are false. Never mind that there are lots of Jews who never left Israel and wouldn't have known about the Khazars, or that Khazar genes have been shown in multiple studies to have almost no influence on typical Jews (Jews from the region more so), and that Palestinian genes *also* weren't fixed in stone for the over-a-millennium between the end of a Jewish state and its reestablishment, but when did *sense* ever intrude into a conspiracy theory, especially about DA JEWS?

Very useful, some people don't like these types of movies (not me tho), so they can read this list to avoid movies that'll leave them dizzy.

They missed the Chinese pirate empress Zheng Yi Sao that was so god dam powerful that she basically WON! Not even in terms money... Like She legit told the government she will retire and they accepted it. Even her fleet got to "mostly" get away with it. She should be at the top of this list 1-66d80384...ce68c4.jpg 1-66d80384e6a451-66d8046ce68c4.jpg

Since when was the Simpsons set in Oregon? It's been a while since I watched it but I remember there were often jokes about where it was set so it was intentionally vague. I never remember a specific state being mentioned.

I remember reading about ancient Greece. Where bisexuality was almost the norm. Maybe culture is a much bigger factor in sexuality than we thought.

Cool guides: "How do I know I have ADHD?" 1) I went to a medical professional who diagnosed my ADHD". "How do I NOT know I have ADHD?" 1) "I self diagnosed based on a comic with a list of generic situations that anyone will be prone to relate to due to confirmation bias". Done.

This is just a urban legend. There is no "hobo alphabet", there are some signs used in locally defined places but the meaning is not universal.
