Not a native Australian tree! Although they are common in Australia. A colourful native tree is the Illawarra flame tree.

We have a lot in Mexico too. A Japanese gardener imported them in the late XIX c. to create something similar to their native Japan's cherry bloosoms. They are beautiful...

We had one when I lived in Arizona. They are nice to look at, but sort of tedious to sweep up after! It takes them a long time to drop all of their blooms, so you have to plan a sweep-up every weekend.

To learn more about this beautiful country, we reached out to Australian travel writer Tess Moone, who shares her adventures on the blog Tessomewhere.

"Australia's sheer diversity of landscapes never ceases to amaze me, from the burnt red sands of the north to the tropical rainforests in the east and picture-perfect beaches with crystal-clear water in the south," Tess told Bored Panda. "Its vastness means you could spend a lifetime exploring and still be awed by the contrasts between regions - it often feels like you're traveling through multiple countries within one!"

We also spoke to Jade Collins, co-founder of Salty Aura, an Australian sustainable brand she created with her partner, Jake, offering aesthetic rugs, bedding, and more, who said, "Australia is so unique because it's so easy to escape the hustle and bustle and head slightly inland to feel like you're the only person on earth.

"Nearly 40% of the country is uninhabitable due to the dry desert conditions, and more than 80% of the country's population lives within 50 kilometers [31 miles] of the coast. This is why it's so well known for some of the best beaches in the world, and why it's so easy to escape to the desert and camp amongst the unpolluted stars in outback Australia and enjoy some solitude," Jade added.

Australia is famous for its dangerous fauna. It is home to some of the world's most venomous snakes and spiders, and many outsiders believe that you're risking a confrontation pretty much every minute you spend there.

However, according to Tess Moone, the notion that lethal wildlife lurks around every corner is one of the biggest misconceptions about the country. "Many tourists worry about sharks and spiders, but in reality, having lived by the beach my whole life, I've never encountered a shark," she said.

"While it's important to be mindful and shark-aware, the chances of an encounter are very low."

This past October I finally got to witness Aurora Borealis, right outside my door. It was truly amazing. It didn't last long and I'm really lucky to have gotten some amazing pictures, a lot of people thought that they weren't going to be able to see anything until late at night, I saw it just prior to 730pm. Myself and a neighbor were so giddy with excitement and awe. A really awesome sight to see and I hope to see Aurora Australis in my lifetime, so I can check it off my bucket list.

Jade Collins agrees. "Depending on where you are, typically you won't actually see a spider on your trip here. We [locals] hardly ever think about the poisonous creatures here, and personally, I only ever see a deadly spider 3-4 times a year."

"People also think they should head straight to the east coast when travelling Australia, but if you want a more authentic experience, west and northern Australia are so much better with incredible beaches and outback adventures," she shared.

I can't understand why she takes herself so seriously and is offended at the results and public humour of her 'performance '. However, she reached the Olympics is a coup to start with. Aussies are happy to 'take the Mickey out of each other' ( fun ),.the real Aussie that is..newcomers do not share our style of humour, and, she could make millions on that performance alone. She was offered a stage show and a movie .. how lucky is that? She can't seem to see her ineptness at this very precise artform of rap dancing not pushing the body off the ground around a circle or two and hopping up and down. She could have created a new dance trend and made so much of the farcical performance..

So sweet so small and so delicate be kind to them they are just going about their business.

However, when planning your itinerary, remember that while Australia is the smallest continent, it's still an enormous country. Spanning roughly 7.7 million square kilometers (or 3 million square miles), it’s nearly the same size as the contiguous United States.

"My top tip [for tourists] is not to underestimate the distances between destinations—Australia is massive!" Tess Moone, said. "Many visitors cram too much into a short one or two-week holiday and spend more time traveling than appreciating the beauty of the place."

"Another tip is to venture beyond the typical tourist hotspots on the East Coast, like Sydney and Cairns (home to the Great Barrier Reef). The west coast, my home state, is spectacular and arguably has some of Australia's best beaches," Moone highlighted. "Plus, with the addition of direct flights from Europe to Perth, reaching Western Australia has never been easier."

Won't be any eggs left when there's a possum in the coop. That's why they cull possums in New Zealand. They aren't native to New Zealand but had been introduced and they eat the eggs of New Zealand's rare and endangered birds. They are so cute, but the birds must be saved.

Our two main Possums the large Brushtail as shown in the pic is a friendly little fellas found inside and under any shelter they can find. Not pets but we often feed them fruit ( not bread) or something they appreciate at times. The Ringtails are small with the longest smooth slender tails they cling to trees. We have many possum species from the tiny gliders to the Bushtails. They should never be kept as pets or in captivity. They are so delicate, that some of the babies die from falling out of a tree. They are very shy but still sleep under cover all day despite loud noises. ( We have both living here in our gardens and trees)

It’s a possum. There are a few varieties - I’m not sure which this one is.

Our Maggies the Magpies are wonderful birds, yet some humans get all hyped up at the males swooping and bombing you on the head during nesting season. They are only protecting their offspring and mate. There are too many selfish and ignorant people who prefer to shoot them and have no interest in the ecology of where they live in Australia. Their only interest is in themselves. Some Councils seeking credence with their Ratepayers have, with many opposition protests, against the cruelty, agreed to dispense with the wonderful bird a swell. It is insane, to kill any bird who is protecting their nest. If one takes time to check out how to deter these bombing attacks there is no need to kill. Tie an ice cream container (or a cap) on your head, drawing two large eyes will keep them away. If nesting near your own home, offer them food suited to their diet, they will trust you then and never bomb you. All we did as kids and saved our heads!! We never killed them. We often rode our bikes.

Magpies are pretty dangerous in mating season. The up side of them is that they have a beautiful song. One of my favourite sounds of Australia.

My Grandad lived in Perth, on the outskirts. My Mum and I went to look after him and I was out for a walk when I saw a massive spider that I had never seen before. It looked dead but fascinating. So we called our family friend who is a spider enthusiast and he came to have a look and was all excited as he hadn't seen it, too. He called the local spider centre, or whatever centre it was. They came along....picked up the spider....it was a toy. True story!

A sweet family of Echidnas the mums usualy have 4 or 4 babies each birthing. They are tiny little rolly pollies. Between mating and egg-laying, a female echidna develops a pouch. About three weeks after mating, she seeks out a shelter and lays a single, grape-size egg. After somehow managing to nudge the leathery egg into her pouch(!), she stays in the shelter for 10 to 11 days, until the egg hatches

No matter where you ultimately choose to go, though, the locals are very warm, said Jade Collins of Salty Aura.

However, she added that their attitude can change depending on which region you're in.

For example, "the locals in ‘outback Australia,’ typically northern Australia, are a lot more like the movies, very friendly with lots of banter and slang," she explained.

I love how money all over the world is so colorful and beautiful and has such a wide range of people or places on it made with updated technology so it lasts longer... then there is ours here in America... still made on cloth/paper mix, still green though with a bit of a peach tint added a bit back to avoid counterfeiting, still same old racist white dudes.

One of my favorite things is that the most dangerous snake in Australia is simply called "the brown snake". I guess, with so many things trying to kill them, they gave up on inventing names like "death adder".

Sorry you are getting downvotes. For the uneducated Cane Toads were an introduced species that was brought to Australia to help with the bugs but they went ballistic breeding at an alarming rate with few predators due to their toxic skin and plenty bugs they were too good at eating native bugs as well as other native frogs and amphibians. They need to be culled and it's a good comment to say they should be killed humanely as people have killed plenty inhumanely.

After reading the comments and learning that these things are wreaking havoc on your ecosystem and are supposed to be culled humanely, how do they suggest you do this? When I lived somewhere that had many venomous snakes, my neighbor had one in his yard and he pretty much separated the snakes head from its body, with a garden shovel. If the toad has toxic/poisonous skin, should this young girl be handling it, with bare hands?

I saw a short film about the cane toad blight you have. It had a segment on what happens if you run one down with a car. The insides blow out of its mouth and after a minute they (cane toad) sucks them back in and wanders off. 'Put them in the freezer', stab them behind the head...

Yes, well poisonous...so it will kill wildlife if the eat it, poison is in the glands on the side of its head. Introduced species, invasive, and the only toad species in Australia. We only have native frogs, nearly 300 species, and they are gorgeous

Ibis living in the Brisbane Botanical Gardens have figured out how to kill and eat Cane Toads. The toads excrete poison from pores on their back, when threatened, so, the Ibis picks the toad up by a leg, and bashes it against the ground (hulk style) until the toad runs out of poison. Then the Ibis washes it off thoroughly before eating it. I wonder if this can be taught to all predator birds?

This layout is appealing. It's well thought out and kept to the grid pattern. My city started out on a grid pattern and then sort of wandered this way and that way.

We were told that the building was not really acoustically appropriate for music and that in some of the stages the ballerinas would have to be caught as they ran off stage because there was not enough room on the wings. Don't make cool looking nonfunctional buildings.

It’s fertility rate, not birth rate. There is a massive difference between them.

Was it 1970 that the UK churches finally stopped sending unwed mothers babies to Australia and Canada without the teenage mothers consent?

Here, in NC (USA) we pay a prepared food tax (surcharge?) but we don't pay a card use surcharge. I did find out that vendors here have to pay a percentage of the charges made by credit card (processing fee, usually 2-3%) in addition to what we pay in interest to the credit card company. If there is a way to make a buck and stick it to the customer, it will be found.

Many of our US restaurants are adding a surcharge these days. One of my favorite places calls it a facility charge. It's basically the cost for just sitting down at a table.

Banks ripping us off with a surcharge to use our credit card. How can this be allowed ?

The 1.5% surcharge stumps me too. The other one is a surcharge because the customer paid by card.

Even so, a 33c markdown is unlikely to entice a "Quick Sale" of meat close to its use-by date. It's almost like they don't give a s**tė about reducing wastage
