That's your concern? Most shops work with some party in between handling the money. The shop itself doesn't even see your credit card number. Also, they don't care. Their daily live is not about misusing your credit card number. Not to mention modern checks that are in place. And if they would do it, so would Amazon (they don't either, it hurts their money maker). What you should be concerned about is how this works out. Amazon is like a market place, albeit virtual. If they didn't provide that marketplace, you would have to rummage through the whole internet to find them. Google is just about results, if only ten people buy something from a store, it's not going to show up in their results. But it would if it is something more specific and you search on Amazon, or Amazon boosts the product into Googles results. And that's not because Google cares either way, it's how we look at the world. You want convenience? Someone's gotta suffer. If you want to be a better person, consume less.

Been ordering off the internet for 20 years and have NEVER had to use a credit card. If you're that worried about creditcard fraud why are you using it?

eBay sellers are a good resource too. Yes, eBay takes about 10%, but that's reasonable for maintaining the storefront and handling the transactions (and they do get you a discount on shipping over the posted rates). Quite a few sellers there really qualify as small businesses, even if they are just distributors.

I was scammed once (on Etsy!) and Amex gave me back my money immediately and I have never had to worry about it.

Lol what. Just use Aura or one of those things that regenerates card numbers. That’s such an excuse. Either use Amazon or don’t, there’s no need to make excuses. I use it because it’s fast and easy and I’m busy.

You are liable for little to none of any fraudulent charges on a credit card as long as you report them.

Nah, they will all use one of a handful of payment providers. Your card information is probably going to the likes of WorldPay in most circumstances.

That is a concern, but usually you can use PayPal, which is what I do when given the choice.

1. turn on 2 step verification, preferably to your phone; 2. disable any automatic charges directly from your card. This way even apple pay cannot use more than, let's say 20 usd. 3. use burner cards. My safe'sh card holder has a service to generate temp cards that works only for a limited time. You can specify max sum that can be withdrawn. 4. safety method: buy rfid blockers. Mine looks like any other credit/discount card in the wallet
