Now, if you look around, our planet is filled with mesmerizing things. There are some spectacles of Mother Nature that might just amaze you. Ranging from pastel pink to moody red, Lake Hillier gets its year-round unique color thanks to the presence of microorganisms.

An algae called Dunaliella salina is found in high salt concentrations. It produces beta-carotene, which gives the water a reddish-pink hue. The salt lake’s bright pink juxtaposed against the turquoise bay is definitely a stunning sight.

People around the globe have been enthralled by the stunning dancing ribbons of the northern lights for years. While aurora borealis are usually confined to Earth's polar regions, this year there were rare sightings across the UK, Europe, and the northern hemisphere.

Though our planet's magnetic field shields us from the onslaught, energetic particles from the sun strike Earth's upper atmosphere at up to 45 million mph (72 million kph) and cause the northern lights.

The transparent waters of Caño Cristales in Colombia's Serranía de la Macarena National Park are known for their multitude of colors, earning them the nicknames "liquid rainbow" or "river of five colors." Depending on the lighting and water conditions, you will see shades of vibrant purples, reds, yellows, and greens flow down the river.

Sometimes the river even appears to be a deep crimson, bright blue, hot pink, or orange. However, the coloration only happens during certain months of the year because of a weed called Macarenia clavigera, a kind of aquatic plant.

With its strikingly colored sandstone rocks, Zhangye Danxia National Park in northwest China is a popular tourist destination worldwide. After 55 million years of shifting and creation, various chemicals, such as magnetites, sulfites, chlorites, and iron oxides, reacted with the sandstone to produce the hues that we see today.

I wonder what it smells like? How did they know it was parkinsons? It's very interesting. I also wonder do other illnesses smell?

I've been following her story for a while. She knew it was Parkinson's because her husband had it. She noticed his smell changing well before he was diagnosed, and kept telling him to shower. She didn't connect the change in smell with Parkinson's, however, until she went to attend some event related to Parkinson's, and was overwhelmed by the smell she thought was just her husband's smell coming off many of the attendees. She started bringing it up to doctors and researchers until one took her seriously enough to give her this test to see if she was for real. They're now working on a test for Parkinson's, and I believe she's now working with researchers to see if she can identify other diseases by smell. It's a big deal because she noticed the change in smell before her husband had noticeable symptoms. Tests for smell could identify patients earlier, and early intervention might slow disease even more.

Kind of ironic that a person can detect Parkinson's by smell, when one test used to diagnose it is a smell test. (Losing one's sense of smell is often the first sign...)

There is some evidence that gut health may play a role in Parkinson's disease. Some type of inflammation and SIBO seems to cause neuro-inflammation and neuro-degeneration. Overgrowth of harmful bacteria in the gut (like SIBO, Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) often is accompanied by methane or hydrogen gas emission in the patient's breath. Inflammatory bowel disease can cause changes in body odor. This makes perfect sense.

How did she come across knowing? I mean, I can smell certain things off people but I can't put my foot down on what it is. I just assume it's a hygiene thing, a cultural food thing, or that they're just old people with that old people smell.

I can smell carbon monoxide but I don't think you're supposed to be able to. Gas people turned off the supply to our entire street to fix the fires back in the day just in time for Christmas dinner. Neighbours very unhappy, but had to report it to be on safe side. :D Dogs can smell illness and what about that rabbit that knew his owner was ill? Probably down to smell.
