Now, if you look around, our planet is filled with mesmerizing things. There are some spectacles of Mother Nature that might just amaze you. Ranging from pastel pink to moody red, Lake Hillier gets its year-round unique color thanks to the presence of microorganisms.
An algae called Dunaliella salina is found in high salt concentrations. It produces beta-carotene, which gives the water a reddish-pink hue. The salt lake’s bright pink juxtaposed against the turquoise bay is definitely a stunning sight.

People around the globe have been enthralled by the stunning dancing ribbons of the northern lights for years. While aurora borealis are usually confined to Earth's polar regions, this year there were rare sightings across the UK, Europe, and the northern hemisphere.
Though our planet's magnetic field shields us from the onslaught, energetic particles from the sun strike Earth's upper atmosphere at up to 45 million mph (72 million kph) and cause the northern lights.

The transparent waters of Caño Cristales in Colombia's Serranía de la Macarena National Park are known for their multitude of colors, earning them the nicknames "liquid rainbow" or "river of five colors." Depending on the lighting and water conditions, you will see shades of vibrant purples, reds, yellows, and greens flow down the river.
Sometimes the river even appears to be a deep crimson, bright blue, hot pink, or orange. However, the coloration only happens during certain months of the year because of a weed called Macarenia clavigera, a kind of aquatic plant.

With its strikingly colored sandstone rocks, Zhangye Danxia National Park in northwest China is a popular tourist destination worldwide. After 55 million years of shifting and creation, various chemicals, such as magnetites, sulfites, chlorites, and iron oxides, reacted with the sandstone to produce the hues that we see today.

The Platypus Is Possibly The Weirdest Animal: It's A Mammal But Lays Eggs, Its Duck-Billed, beaver-Tailed, Otter-Footed And Venomous. it Has Electroreceptors For Locating Prey, Eyes With Double Cones, No Stomach, And 10 chromosomes. it's Fluorescent And Glows Under UV Light
Well that's interestin... *weird duck-beaver puts on hat* PERRY THE PLATYPUS!?
Wasn’t the platypus only discovered to be teal under fluorescent (edit: UV) light after Perry’s creation? I feel like I remember that fun fact from somewhere.
Load More Replies...Platypuses do not have stomachs in the same way most mammals do. While typical mammals have a distinct stomach separating the esophagus from the small intestine, the platypus’ digestive tract lacks this structure. Instead, they have an organ called a proventriculus, which combines the functions of the esophagus, stomach, and small intestine. Food travels from the esophagus to the proventriculus and then directly into the small intestine. The proventriculus secretes enzymes to break down food as it moves through the organ

Nah, they just had a bunch of leftover parts and a quota
Load More Replies...Had anyone ever heard of the Natural Habitat YouTube channel/TikTok account? They did a hilarious animation with some animal I can’t remember as a health inspector and a platypus as a hotel bellhop. The other animal was going over the room with a black light and was reacting to all the glowing spots like they were completely normal (which they probably are). Anyways, then he shines the light on the platypus (who starts glowing) and looks at the platypus with a horrified expression. The platypus is like: “what? What’s wrong? Why- why am I glowing? What does it mean?” Cut to the platypus scrubbing himself in the shower while the inspector shines the light on him while wailing ew. It’s one of my favorites:)
I love Natural Habitat! My favorite is the one with the otter family at the restaurant 🤣

A platypus has 52 chromosomes, but what's unusual is that 10 of those 52 are sex chromosomes.
There's an old cartoon called "Picky Chicky" from "Papa Beaver's story time" series. It's about a little chicken that is jealous of different animals' characteristics and keeps going to Mother Nature to negotiate. In the end, Mother Nature turns them into a platypus, but gives them a partner so it's not lonely. I love that cartoon!
Almost all live-birth-giving mammals were just squirrel or shrew-like creatures, scurrying around at night to be safe from dinosaur predators only 65 million years ago (right before the comet). These guys' family tree split off from those mammals over 150 million years ago.
According to Terry Pratchett, the platypus was a animal made by a committee of wizards.
Platypus is the best "proof" of creation. All the weird leftover parts were mixed together by accident.
Thank you. I had no idea they were poisonous! I love learning something new every day!
Since it was around first, it would be more true to say the other animals are a bit like the platypus.
Don’t forget it has no nipples, but lactates milk from its skin folds
Since it lays its own eggs and produces its own milk, it is one of two animals that can make its own custard. (the other is the echidna)
All animal milk is produced by modified sweat glands.

When the first specimens were sent back to Europe they thought it was fake - a mix of animals parts sewn together.
I could be wrong, but I think only the males have the venomous spurs. BTW, there are a lot of furry animals that glow in the dark - go to the Smithsonian website and look it up.
Terry Pratchett described the development of this weird dud in his book The Last Continent. It was the wizard from the Unseen University trying to draw a duck
It's a mammal without nipples too. It sweats milk into the fur on it's chest.
Sounds gross, but all milk is from sweat glands. There aren't nipples though, on a platypus.
Load More Replies...There must be a story of how this amazing animal came into being. It's like they put all of those animals into a time machine and this came out.
God was just fuqing with us when he built this thing. Guess he had to use up all the left-over parts
When the other animals were done being assembled, Mother Nature wondered what to do with the extra bits
