Instead Of Taking Selfies I Draw Myself During My 3rd Visit In Japan

As it is my 3rd time visiting Tokyo area in Japan now, I’ve already had all the pictures and videos taken previously. I wanted to challenge myself and document my experiences in a new way so I thought that maybe instead of taking selfies I should draw myself one. And this is how I came up with the idea for my illustrated diary.

This time I’ve decided to go to Japan for 6 weeks because 4 weeks last year were not enough. My last visit in Tokyo was a truly life changing experience that left me with lots of great memories and new friends. But I didn’t want to torture my family with 4,000+ pictures of Tokyo area again so instead of pulling out my phone every 10 minutes just to take a picture I am now pulling out my sketchbook! Each drawing has a date and the time on top with a description of my day on the other side. I’m posting each drawing with shorter versions of those descriptions, focusing only on the bit of the day that I’ve illustrated. You can find them either on my fanpage, or my instagram.

I’ve always been a fan of manga style and using it now to illustrate my time in Japan has never felt more appropriate. With 5 drawings already done I am looking forward to drawing more and more. The plan is that when I come back to Cardiff I will scan them all and put togheter in a short book form. I think this will make a great memory that is not only different but also extremely personal.
