Inside Lizzie Borden’s Maplecroft Home

We all know who Lizzie Borden is and any of us have visited the house where she grew up and the now infamous murders happened in Fall River, Massachusetts, but many of us have never been inside the house we she lived her later part of life after her acquittal of murder.

After the trial, the Borden sisters moved into a large, modern house in The Hill neighborhood in Fall River. Around this time, Lizzie began using the name Lizbeth A. Borden. At their new house, which Lizbeth dubbed “Maplecroft”, they had a staff that included live-in maids, a housekeeper, and a coachman. Because Abby was ruled to have died before Andrew, her estate went first to Andrew and then, at his death, passed to his daughters as part of his estate. A considerable settlement, however, was paid to settle claims by Abby’s family.

Despite the acquittal, Borden was ostracized by Fall River society. Her name was again brought into the public eye when she was accused of shoplifting in 1897 in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1905, shortly after an argument over a party that Lizbeth had given for actress Nance O’Neil,Emma moved out of the house and never saw her sister again.

The house is currently for sale and hopes to find a new owner soon.

Hey there, Pandas! My name is Diana (though some prefer to refer to me as Diane, Deanna, and even Liana sometimes), and I am a Community Post Moderator Lead for Bored Panda. As my position title states, I am one of the people (employed Pandas for bamboo) over here who work with the community side of things on this website to ensure all is well, and while at that, I also help various creators and artists get recognition for the incredible work they do by connecting them to a large worldwide audience. Other than that, outside of work, you can find me brewing a nice cup of coffee, making a pizza from scratch, or baking brownies. I also love traveling, concerts, and cats (heavy on that, because I am a cat mom).

Nice tour, thanks. I only wish it could be the murder house. But this is interesting too! Especially the paper dolls. People will merchandise anything and this proves it's not just a modern plague.

Great pictures. but do not assume everyone knows who Lizzie Borden was. some background would help in the intro.
