It's a wonderful, wonderful book. I read it in high school first and re-read it a few years back. If you haven't read it, I strongly suggest you do so. That book, and the photography of Dorothea Lange, perfectly encapsulate the American Great Depression.

I’m convinced most people don’t know what socialism means. Socialism ain’t Communism. A Capitalist society filled with some socialist policies is always amazing. The only time socialism is bad is when it devolves into Communism. Communism has never worked, but Capitalist societies with plenty of socialist policies rule.
