This is the real question that needs to be asked.

My son was on 3 different chemo meds. Two were given intravenously at the hospital, but the third chemo drug was a pill he had to take at home. Each caspule was $500. It was absolutely ridiculous. This happened at the same time I was trying to help my dad pay for his heart medications to keep him alive. He never had enough $ for all his prescriptions. I hate this country's healthcare system.

How do American hospitals and drug companies even come up with those insane prices? Especially when they know there’s no way an average person can afford a lot of treatments? To be fair to the criminal, he likely is desperate himself and had no idea he wasn't stealing an XBox game or something. On the other hand, we have a drug company that absolutely knows they have a family trying to save a child from certain death so they extort the hell out of them... the criminal, on realizing he stole a (useless to him) drug, may have remorse. The drug company?

And why in the h*ll is the pharmacy shipping 40k worth of meds cheaping out on the shipping and not requiring a adult present to accept the package?

exactly why cures are locked away in a vault. No money in cures. My son delivered some cancer machinery to a hospital up north. The bigger machines have to be assembled onsite and then the hospital is built around them. The larger machines are north of $100M each, they have 10 of them. The smaller ones like he delivered go for $8-10M rebuilt. Ever notice people at big pharma never contract anything? There's a cure for everything we know.

My son, 51, has glioblastoma. There is a device he can wear on his head that, from what I understand, will send electrical pulses to disrupt the cancer cell division thereby lengthening his survival rate. He is waiting to hear back on whether or not his insurance will cover it...it's $21K per MONTH.

That the pharmaceutical companies actually get away with charging people this amount for life saving and life sustaining medication, that's the problem

Playing devils advocate for a moment: not all expensive medicines are overpriced. Quite a few are very difficult and expensive to produce and are used only in very specific cases (making it much harder to get a return on the development). It's why health insurance exists and why, in many countries, governments pay part of the costs. It's very likely this is one of those cases. Specialist cancer medication is ludicrously expensive to produce.

When you spend billions of dollars and more than 10nyears bringing a drug ti market, I think they have a right to charge whatever they must to turn a profit for their shareholders. If it wasn't for big pharma, the drug would not exist so stop b*tchin' about high prices in the most capitalistic nation on earth. Don't like it, move. Lots of socialist and communist countries you can go to.

Some of us are so beyond ready. I cannot fathom how conservatives can possibly defend our healthcare system in cases like this.

Absolutely horrific that medicine costs this much. However, no matter what it was, or what it cost, the item was on the Parents' porch. The porch pirate-thief did not have the right to to take his skanky self on someone else property and just help himself. Desperate for what? An a*s whooping?

Me either, even now as a fully grown adult (I'm 36) I've never came close to having that amount of money.

Unfortunately, we are a selfish country and half of the population believes that as long as they get theirs, they don’t care if anyone else does too. You’d have factions of people who would refuse to pay for their neighbor’s healthcare. “My neighbor smokes, why should my taxes pay for his lung cancer medicine.” “She’s fat. She eats too much. Why is it my responsibility to pay for her insulin”. Or Lordy the newest trend we saw during covid, “they refused the vaccine. My taxes shouldn’t have to pay for their hospital visit when they could have been vaccinated”. It’s a genie that will be hard to put back in the bottle now that our healthcare system is so used to sucking up so much money.
