While we all need a fair share of news to keep up to date with the world around us, the truth is, we don’t always benefit from that emotionally. Quite often the opposite happens. What we read or watch or hear may upset us, leaving us anxious and irritated for the rest of the day.

Sometimes it’s the sheer facts that trigger us negatively, like Russia’s invasion of Ukraine or the dreadful plastic pollution in the oceans. And other times, it’s not the facts but rather the presentation of how one thing or another is told to us.

The headlines, for example, are notorious for inflating and misrepresenting things and we always have to take them with a pinch of salt. And even if we do, they may still frustrate us, as they did to people on the Trashy community on Reddit. Below we wrapped up the headlines that, according to people, have maddened them the most.

Which is worse? Some a$$hat took the package, or that it costs $40k for this kid’s medication?

Some of us are so beyond ready. I cannot fathom how conservatives can possibly defend our healthcare system in cases like this.

This is disgusting (although the chances are he's just an oportunistic thief who stole a package and likely had no idea what was inside.) The fact that the meds cost $40,000 is the real crime here, just another example of how f***ed the US health care system is. Also kinda curious why they were left sitting outside? surely you'd have an idea when they'd be getting delivered and could have got them straight away or asked someone else to pick them up for you. I'd never leave an expensive/ important package laying around on the off chance that someone like this would steal it.

If no one is home, the delivery company will keep the parcel. The medication could require refrigeration. Not having it delivered risks it being left at the parcel service overnight.

And why was no one home to accept the package in the first place? For $40,000 I'd want to know where that package is down to the last inch on it's way to my home.

So mom or dad should take a day off from work to wait for the postman? That’s not really doable- especially if the kid receives multiple deliveries. Porch pirates can stalk delivery drivers. All it takes is 5 minutes.

This happened to a neighbor of mine. Someone stole her chemotherapy pills from in front of her house. We all started looking out for each other after that. If there was a package on anyone's door, we'd take it inside and leave them a note that we had it and they could come get it anytime.

I think both the US healthcare system and the porch pirate are equally culpable in this situation, tbh. 40k a month for lifesaving medication?? What a mental place.

Absolutely horrific that medicine costs this much. However, no matter what it was, or what it cost, the item was on the Parents' porch. The porch pirate-thief did not have the right to to take his skanky self on someone else property and just help himself. Desperate for what? An a*s whooping?

In the UK, even a £10 prescription has to either be handed to the resident or left in secure place. I can't imagine why on earth anybody would leave $40k of potentially dangerous chemo meds on a porch. It's like someone delivering a car and leaving it on the drive with the keys in it. And don't get me started on why they are having to pay at all.

The US health"care" system aside, when a lifesaving drug costs the same amount per month as a mid-range vehicle, the company that is shipping it should REALLY offer a constant surveillance option. It exists. UPS offers it. It does cost more but it places an armed guard with the package from the moment it leaves the facility to the moment it is placed in your hands.

Jesus f*****g christ why anyone even wants to live in a country where a childs cancer medication isn't free is beyond me. It's not difficult. One pays taxes and the state give it back to those in need. Why there hasn't been a revolution of some sort in the US is baffling.

Unfortunately, we are a selfish country and half of the population believes that as long as they get theirs, they don’t care if anyone else does too. You’d have factions of people who would refuse to pay for their neighbor’s healthcare. “My neighbor smokes, why should my taxes pay for his lung cancer medicine.” “She’s fat. She eats too much. Why is it my responsibility to pay for her insulin”. Or Lordy the newest trend we saw during covid, “they refused the vaccine. My taxes shouldn’t have to pay for their hospital visit when they could have been vaccinated”. It’s a genie that will be hard to put back in the bottle now that our healthcare system is so used to sucking up so much money.

If the value of meds is that much, the delivery should be made hand to hand and signed off on or the delivery company should cough up the money to replace it.

Honestly tho. Why do Americans leave packages on porches and outside the door? Call the person you are delivering to, check if they are home or when they would be. Especially medical stuff. Shouldn't those be handed over and signed?

Shane S

My pharmacy requires a signature if you live in any type of communal living like an apartment, dorm, or condominium. If you live in a freestanding house, it’s up to the recipient. If you live in a safe neighborhood and get shipments all the time and never have a theft, why would you expect for this to be the first time? Mom and dad have to work. We have a hustle culture in America with very few days off compared to the rest of the developed world.

When my son was 3, he managed with one swing of his arm to knock multiple bottles of lotion off a low shelf causing one to crack open and spill lotion all over. I was very much watching my kid. He wasn’t goofing off. Genuine accident. We (he helped, kinda) put the non-broken ones away and we went up to costumer service to pay for the broken lotion. It was a weird conversation. Me: My son broke this lotion. I think I’m supposed to pay for it. Employee: Do you want the lotion? M: No. E: Then you don’t have to pay for it. I told him which aisle so they could clean it up and we continued shopping. You are responsible for your kids and their actions and mistakes. Our family phrase is: Look with your eyes, not your hands. when we’re in public, at stores, etc. I didn’t understand why we didn’t pay for the lotion. Felt guilty. I very much don’t understand this headline, but I also don’t know what I’d do if my son broke something I couldn’t afford to pay for.
