People realized that knowledge is power very early on and the phrase is often attributed to Sir Francis Bacon, an English philosopher and statesman who served as Attorney General (1613-1617) and as Lord Chancellor of England (1617-1621).

Not everyone possesses the same knowledge, but not everyone is allowed to. At the same time, there are things that you think you shouldn’t know because it’s not your place, but actually it’s not classified information, it just sounds like it.

If you would like to hear some examples of such information, this list contains all sorts of cases when people think that it’s almost illegal to know what they know. The thread started when craftygalcreates asked “What's a piece of information you learned that now feels almost illegal to know?” In two days, the question got almost 40k upvotes as people were interested to read the secrets that are not really secrets.

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group When I was a kid, my dad taught me how to pick a lock. I became very interested in different kinds of locks and purchased a lock pick set. I practiced for years and became pretty good at certain types of locks. So over the years every now and then, if a neighbor locks themselves out of the house or a friend loses the key to a padlock or a lock box I’ve been able to help. But the reactions I tend to get from people, even while I’m helping them with their lock is mainly one of mistrust. I’m not a cat burglar. I just like locks.

I don't know about the US but there is a wonderful museum in Vienna (Austria) that you might enjoy... they have an exhibit of the most complicated and intricate locks I have ever seen.

I remember going out of town with my mom once when I was about 8 or 9 to drop something off at some office in the city she grew up in. We parked on the street in front of a barber shop and neighboring bar and, noting the less than savory looking group of men hanging out on the corner, mom reminded me to lock the door when I got out. Unfortunately, she locked the keys inside - something we didn’t discover until we returned. The guys on the corner were still there & they watched as we circled the car trying to figure out what to do. (This was long before cell phones came on the scene.) After a few minutes one of the men approached and said something like, “I shouldn’t do this, but here you go.” He reached into his pocket and pulled something out that he stuck into the lock and twisted, opened the door, nodded his head, and returned to the corner. Took him about 5 seconds. 🤣

A friend of mine used to be a locksmith for the council here in England. On several occasions he had to gain access to properties so the police could get inside, usually because a dead body's smell had alerted neighbours. Apparently they were always really suspicious as to how he was so good and so quick at picking locks. Oh no, not because it was his job for twenty years, he must've definitely been a criminal :-D

I didn't want to be a doctor, just wanted a drivers' license, which entails a first aid course. It was held by an older, sort of burnt out EMT, and he started by saying we should never kill ourselves. BUT if we really wanted to, just please don't make an EMT's day extremely sh**** by trying to save us, just do it properly! And then he talked for about 3 hours about people who tried various ways and where they made a mistake, and how they should've done it if they really wanted results. Then went into general injuries, and how people made them worse by not knowing basic first aid. It was a memorable course....

If you are struggling to pay bills don't ignore the calls. At least in the US most utilities have assistance programs you can qualify for and they can help you get enrolled in them. Or you can set up payment arrangements. I've worked in a billing dept for utilities before, most of the time people got cut off because they wouldn't talk to us, those that did call almost always got some kind of help and prevented disconnection

Not here in America.. and it's really saying! in my township (we get a bill every 3 months for water..water is ran by local government in my area) you have a month to pay if not they put the red sticker on your door, that only gives you 2 weeks more to pay up.. after that they tack on 100.00 extra to the bill to pay for the water person to come out to turn off the water. So if say your water bill is 200.00 for 3 months of water use now your bill is 300.00 to get it turned on again..After that you have 60 days to pay your bill if you don't township could put a lean on your house or take you to court because it's illegal to live in a home without water (sanitation reasons) ..I know this because my neighbor went through it when he was running into hard patch.. I helped out with the bill. Your better off paying the water bill let electric , cell , cable go..companies like cable cell electric are will to work with you with easy payment arrangements without turning you of...

If you are struggling to pay bills CONTACT THE COMPANIES, tell them you can't pay and ask for a reduction and/or extention. Most companies are more than willing to give you 3 months right off the bat. Many companies will accept partial payments for up to 6 months. But most important, always, is to contact them right away. Not when you're behind 2 months. Not after paying half a bill. No, up front, the very second you find out you can't pay

This is true -- speaking as a researcher. We don't get any money from publishers. We're getting our salaries from universities and other institutions (mostly publicly funded, at least in many parts of the world). We are obliged to publish in research journals, so we compete for their columns, meet their unfair requirements (why employ an editor, like any decent publisher, if you can just make the author edit and format their work?), sometimes even pay for the privilege of being published. And then the same institutions that employ us have to pay outrageous price for access to the texts we publish so that their students and employees have access to the state of art research. We have no incentive whatsoever to care for the interests of the publishers, and frankly, most of us positively resent them. And we have every incentive to divulge our research as wide as possible (once it's published, of course -- before that it's top secret ;) )

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group Totally another route of what everyone else is posting but.... the lion at The Animal Kingdom safari ride isn't chained (Disney World park). He is fed a huge piece of meat every morning and sits on a rock that is changed to the perfect temperature for him everyday so he has no reason to attack anyone on the safari ride.

I work at Disney and this is only partially true. The lions aren’t chained (no zoo or attraction chains lions…c’mon). The rock is heated and air conditioned to provide comfort for the lions and to entice them to stay out in the open, visible to guests. There are absolutely barriers, though, between the lions and guests, and between the lions and other animals. The level of barrier varies by animal. You may have a giraffe walk up to the safari ride to say hi, but you will never get too close to a lion…or hippo, or elephant, or gator….

A salient reminder that animals generally do not attack people without reason: usually only for defence, protection (of young or themselves) or for food. The revenge or pure violence motives we attach to animal attacks are for the most part simply not there. Though, that said, the famous attack on a ship by a whale that inspired Moby D**k did reek of a revenge attack. In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick, a great book about the events - the whale attack was just the start of it!

Male lions are lazy as f**k. being fed regularly with no effort required and being able to sleep on a warm rock every day is basically their idea of heaven. Female lions maybe not so much but a male lion in this kind of enclosure is pretty much living his best life.

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group Unionization saves you more money than it costs you, you cannot be punished for attempting to do so, and it is NOT in any way illegal, rude, or improper to discuss your salary with your coworkers. It feels illegal because every company on the f*****g planet has tried to make people think unions are evil monsters trying to get you to pay union dues for no return. This is false because union dues are much less expensive than a company underpaying you and trying to work you to death, which a union fights against. Unions are there to prevent worker exploitation, stop it if people were being exploited when they got there, and get you a fair wage that will actually let you live off of one job instead of needing 4-5 or to work criminal amounts of overtime.

The unions used to come to my shop to unionize my people and I always let them My people would run them out with just a few questions. We paid better than the union, we had better insurance than the union, we had a 401K and profit sharing and usually, people could work all the overtime they wanted. If a company does the right thing for their people, they don't have to worry about unions, but most companies are driven by greed not decency.

Some unions don't do a good job, that's true. I've worked in four or five, some were in bed with management so they would roll over for the company. In other cases they've been very good. About 30% improved take home (sometimes more) and much better protection against bad management. Moral is, don't let one bad experience be held up as the whole story. Unions are only as strong as the members.

My husband's union is literally the REASON he and his coworkers are overworked for multiple reasons. He works at the airport in airline operations. They and they are severely understaffed. Training for the job takes a long time and they have a long list of people who belong to the same union in a completely different role who think all the people in his job do is sit on their butt when in reality their job is very hard. Those people transfer in, train for six months, then decide they hate the job and leave and a new batch of like-minded people comes in and the whole thing happens again. The union makes it so no external people can apply until they get through this list of over 100 lazy people. Also, the union started forcing lunch breaks about a year ago. This is hard for two reasons. One, in operations, it's almost impossible to stick to a scheduled lunch break, and two, it makes the work day longer for people doubling because of the understaffed thing. (read reply for more)

When the management tried to cut out the breaks again (meaning people would just grab a meal when they had a free block of time which ALWAYS happens) the union leader who does not work in that job pitched a fit even though EVERY EMPLOYEE IN THE JOB WANTED TO GET RID OF THE BREAKS. Thought unions were supposed to fight for you.

This was always such a foreign concept to me. I worked several jobs in two different countries, and every time I had access to clear and open data about what each position at that company pays. (In the same level. I wouldn't necessarily know what the bosses boss was making.) So I never had to ask my colleagues what their salary was, I knew it was either the same as mine, or how much more and why (e.g. extra years in the position or extra language knowledge might give one a bonus).

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group Creating Nitrogen triiodide. When in liquid form it is stable but once it dries so much as a fly landing on it creates a purple smoke explosion. It's so unstable that alpha radiation can be used to detonate the stuff. It's actually easy to get the materials and create the stuff. Filled my high school hallway stairs with purple smoke on the last day of school.

It explodes loudly in otherwise safely small amounts . If you weren't paying attention in chemistry my teacher would quietly leave a paper towel soaked in this stuff on your desk. Next time around the room he'd give it a tap. My dad said he painted it on the latches of doors.

Kinda was wondering the same but maybe amounts are so small that its not a problem. I know nitrogen replaces oxygen so in closed space it could be really dangerous as you dont notice it but after few breaths you would be unconscious and then soon die. But I guess with this compound the nitrogen is not in gas form so its probably safe, Im not a chemist so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My late husband got a low number in the Viet Nam war draft lottery. Knowing he would be drafted into the army soon, anyway, he made the rounds of the different recruiters. The Navy, Marines, and Air Force all told him wonderful stories about the benefits of signing with them. When he go to the Coast Guard he asked what they would give him. “A hard time” was the answer. He said, “Where do I sign? You’re the first ones who haven’t lied to me.” They said, “It doesn’t work that way. You don’t choose us; we decide if we want you.” Turned out that they did. Thanks for sharing, that was a really interesting story! In may or June of 2001, I was passed over by a certain branch for my weight (I'm a woman, I was 5'2" and 120lbs and was told to lose 10lbs first) and almost ended up in the army (they didn't mind my size). I never went through with it. 6 months later and they would have taken me anyways due to Iraq

I understand *sometimes* cops lying to catch a criminal, like trying to catch a pedophile or telling them they already know the truth to make them relax and spill because they think they're caught anyway. But military recruiters lying in order to get someone to sign up to possibly die without knowing the ramifications should be really illegal. I'll never forget watching that Michael Moore doc about 9/11 where you see the recruiters hunting kids down at Walmart and s**t, talking about them like they're literally animals. And it was always poorer neighborhoods. You never saw them do that crap in a rich neighborhood. It's put to them like 'this is an amazing opportunity to make a lot of money and you probably won't even have to fight anywhere, and you get free college. And you'll never be able to do anything else because you're poor so you'd better sign up.'

I am also an Air Force vet 2007-2008 I got told I signed a 2 year enlistment. Nope 15 months. And no GI bill. I went to a “rich kid school” came from a “rich area” and a middle class family. Cops can and will say they're going to get you on something really bad but they'll lighten the punishment if you just confess to __________. Do not trust this. If you get picked up by a cop in the US, ask if you're being detained. If they aren't detaining you, you can go. If you are detained, don't say anything without a lawyer present. And be careful how you word it - you can say "I won't say anything without a lawyer here" but that won't get you any closer to actually getting the lawyer there because it's not actually a request for a lawyer. Side note, somewhat unrelated: if a cop ever takes off his badge while standing in front of you, you get the hell out of there

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group One thing I learned is in the state of California if you are squatting a property for five years and have been upkeeping it with proof, you can file a claim of ownership with the courts and take over any property as long as it was deemed that the original owner never tried to remove you within the same timeframe.

Depends who you do it to and how you do it. With thousands of homeless people on one side and speculators owning empty buildings they don't need on the other I can understand the attitude of squatters. If someone lived there without causing trouble (like trashing the place) for five years without the owner noticing he obviously didn't need the place. Ownership comes with responsibilities.

Adverse possession laws. They’re everywhere and often have very subtle nuance. Even in places where the more notorious versions of this law have been rescinded, there are still parts that remain effective. In California, the recipe is so very specific it’s rare this happens.

Texas has a similar adverse possession law... a lawyer once told me that to end their rights, all you have to do is send them a postcard saying they are free to hold the property from month to month... or put this in the public notices part of the local newspaper, or tape a letter with this on it to the front door... this changes their rights from an adverse possessor to freehold estate... the freeholder's right to occupy can then be removed on 30 day's actual notice... people check the tax assessor's records to see who is paying the property taxes... if you are not shown as the payor for that year, someone is trying to take your property...

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group Read a personal finance book that recommended calling your providers once a year (credit card companies, TV/internet providers, cell phone company, etc) and demand a lower rate or price. I’ve been following that advice for two years and have not been denied once. Last week I saw a commercial for my internet provider offering a super low introductory rate so I called to demand that I get that rate. They said no problem and now I save an extra $700 a year because of a 5 minute call. I am a very passive introvert so it’s not the most easy or comfortable thing but the money I save is worth it. They may so no initially but if you ask a few times or ask to speak to their supervisor they very usually give in. *Edit the book is called “I Will Teach You to be Rich” (cringey title, awesome book imo)

That's true but it does work. It should, in theory, work with any company that has a strong competitor. That's why we have all been told countless times to switch energy provider. The fact is that you usually don't have to. Just ring your provider and tell them that their competitor has offered you a better deal to switch. Every time I have tried that, it's worked. Only for £10 a month but I don't need to tell you that that's £120 per year. Which you could spend on a nice meal out to celebrate what a financial whizz you are.

AT&T will do this, at least for DirecTV service. Call and ask for "customer loyalty". You'll get transferred around a few times, but stick with it. Once you get through, ask the representative what discounts your are eligible for. I do this every year. In 2019 I save $50 a month on Directv, this year a little less ($30), but theyvey always given me something.

I moved and needed to pay $100 for new service activation as Spectrum was never wired to the house, it was just till the road. I asked him to provide new customer rate. He declined that too. I asked give me either one off. Either waive activation fee or give new customer rate. He declined both after 30 min on call. I then went to online chat and the helpful lady tried to waive activation but said she couldn't so instead gave me new customer rate.

I live in the PNW and we are blessed with great medical care. We have that program here. The hospitals have a program that if you make a certain amount of money or less per year? They will pay either 100 % or another percentage depending on your earnings. Including co-pays if you see physicians atached to their hospitals in the area. So we get excellent medical care. We have insurance policies through the ACA and it has saved our lives. One of us receives a Medicare Advantage PPO .

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group Well, I gave my 9th grade chemistry class a detailed report on diacetylmorphine (heroin) for a project about organic molecules, including how to make it. It was pretty interesting to do and fun to present, but I feel like I broke the law somehow.

You need to learn the basics in chemistry, we learned LCM - it’s literally one step away from acid and we new it, chemistry is fun, and rarely used to in a naughty way by people who love it. A butcher works with very dangerous knives but they don’t go around killing people.

I assuming while reading that it was a student. Now I can see there is no way to be sure. But if it was a student, totally makes sense they'd want to do that. Doing a ninth-grade project on heroin and getting away with it is funny, to a ninth-grader.

I’m in an A-level chemistry class and our teacher had us making aspirin the other week. For some exam boards it’s a required practical, and surprisingly easy to do. The main thing that would stop people doing it outside of school is the fact that the ingredients aren’t exactly something you are just going to have lying round your house. Aspirin isn’t heroin but it’s still a drug.

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group When you have a debt with a collection agency you can pay the debt and then call back a few weeks later and say, “I was told when I called and paid that you’d remove this from my credit score.” And then you ask for documentation saying they’re gonna do it. Apparently collection agencies don’t keep super good records on stuff like that; they just want your money. It worked for me, and I hope it can work for you if you need it in the future.

Yeah, I've heard something about this, collection agencies don't necessarily report you paid in full to credit agencies, and since accounts often get sold between collection agencies it's best to keep good records, one agency may not have your payment recorded from another agency, a lot of documentation doesn't always follow...

I think they're saying "Keep bugging debt collection companies that you've paid because they don't do a good job." One of my horror stories with American healthcare is when I kept getting "You haven't paid!" in the mail. Called my insurance and hospital multiple times, and they always said it's paid in full, so I thought it was a scam. Come to find out I owed money to a separate company from the same visit. It got sent to collections, and I paid ASAP so it wouldn't hurt my credit score. They didn't register that I paid, so I kept getting the same scary letters. So I paid again just to protect my credit, and then tried to get refunded. Nearly 3 years later, they refunded me, and a month after that, I got another letter saying I had an outstanding debt for the exact same amount. Called for the umpteenth time and finally someone f*****g figured it out on their end.

If you get a notice from a collector, request the original documentation that shows you are responsible. If companies are unable to do this, they cannot keep your debt in collections. Additionally, if you dispute through a credit bureau, the collector has to present original documentation. They have (I can't remember precisely) 30-90 days to provide or must rescind your debt. These companies often do not have the chain of records, or it's not worth them trying to find it based on the amount owed.

NEVER pay a collection agency. Their interest rates are through the roof. Always pay the organization that you initially owe and even if they've "sold" your debt to collections they cannot refuse a payment from you or the debt is wiped.

I refuse to pay them and always pay the company I owe. Right now I'm paying off my cancer bills and my husband's heart attack. Yes, some go to collections because I don't have thousands to pay as fast as they want. But I do get them paid and I can usually get them to take it off my credit report once it's done. Collections won't do that

Again false. Collection agency have no control to remove from credit report. But! You can raise a dispute with the credit agencies. And they will remove it if its paid, "usually". I had small amount in collection. Called the collection agency multiple times, wrote letter. All they said that they can do is give me a letter its paid. I was working on a home loan and that company has credit repair specialist and he suggested I raise a dispute. Use the "I had No knowledge of account or Not Mine" option. If the account is paid off, it's easier for the agency to just remove it rather than go through entire process of finding out what happened. All 3 agency removed it immediately. Experian did it in 24 hrs, Equifax did in 3 days and Transunion took couple of weeks. But its removed now and my score bumped by 60 points!

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group In Canada you can record any conversation with someone without their knowledge, unless it is in furtherance of an offence. I had to do this with an auto restoration shop in order to do a Visa chargeback when they did nothing to my car but steal parts for almost a year (Curtis Customs in Nova Scotia - I don’t mind mentioning them because there are already news stories about their scams) EDIT: A lot of replies from people possibly misreading. If "you" are recording a "conversation with someone," you are part of the conversation and would be the consenting individual (one party consent). It's definitely wrong and illegal to record just any conversation between two or more other people

In the USA? There are legal issues with recording a conversation, whether it’s in-person in your home or over the phone. In some states, two-party consent is required before you hit “record.” This means that ALL parties involved in the conversation must be aware that they are being recorded. In other states, there are more relaxed laws. One-Party Consent States – Updated 2022 https://recordinglaw.com/united-states-recording-laws/one-party-consent-states

Those theft signals can be troublesome, though. Not the old-fashioned button seals (those are quite foolproof), but the small RFID labels. Usually they are magnetically deactivated, not removed, when you have paid. The problem is that sometimes things like static electricity or extreme moisture can make them active again, so that old jacket you have been wearing for the last years can make a theft detector go off. Also some older detectors react to labels commonly found on library books.

Two different things. Con artist refers to gaining someone else's confidence (meaning trust), not projecting (real or falsely) one's own confidence (meaning belief) in one's self.

I managed to pull this off when I was younger in Sheffield, UK. It was a large national reception at Cutler's Hall and all the MPs were bussed in. I realised what was going on and being smartly dressed, thought I would chance it. I waited across the road for a bus to pull up and as it disgorged it's fancy passengers, I nipped across the road, round the front of the bus and just merged in, evading security. I had a lovely chat with the MP for Leeds over champagne before I confessed and scarpered. Best champagne I ever drank!

Oh it's so less complicated than that. If you have a house key in a planned community or apartment complex, odds are that your locks are the same brand as all the other locks in the complex. Most lock companies only use seven lock pin combos, otherwise every lock would be an expensive original. So with that in mind, if there are seventy units in your complex, odds are there are ten other units with your house key.

Not true at all. Its the worldwide tattooing community that have appropriated our designs for use in so-called 'Tribal tatooing' . In particular the use of the koru negative and positive motifs for arm/ shoulder designs that have become globally 'the' design of choice for so many people. The application of Maori tattoo was regulated under strict guidance and use and always had to be earnt by either deeds (mana) or high ranking genealogy (tapu) or both so a good warrior who was up there in ranking would be a candidate or conversely a woman with high rank and skilled in any of the arts could get get a chin moko and on the rare occasions the forehead moko. My Great grandmother had both she fought the Pakeha invaders alongside many other high ranking women and after peace promptly married one of the invading army officers. Not one of her children and children children were ever tattooed even casually.

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group I had a stats prof who used to work for the US government. I'm not sure exactly what his job was, but it definitely involved evaluating the status and readiness of nukes, both ours and the USSR's (he was probably at least 70 and had been retired from that job for a while). One day in class he just started talking about the percentage of nukes that fail (ours and theirs) and why they fail and all kinds of other, seemingly sensitive, information. I don't think he would have told us anything classified, but his personality was boisterous and irreverent enough that I am not sure. I literally expected a team of spooks to bust down the door at any minute and drag us all off for interviews in windowless rooms.

It's not classified, nor has it been for many decades, what a nuke can/will do or how/why a missile fails, etc. There were articles in the news in the 1970s about that stuff, when I was small and scared we'd be vaporized.

Geometry, ratio of different isotopes in the warhead, manufacturing process, things like that are classified, using known info on the differences to point out different failure rates based on math alone? nothing really against that

Was on a jury once where the charge was drunk driving. We all thought the guy was probably guilty, but the vehicle had been out of the officer's sight for a few minutes and the alleged driver claimed he was getting out of the driver's side because the passenger door was jammed. The officer did not check the door, so "innocent until proven guilty" prevailed.

That means there was a reasonable doubt. I heard of one case where a designated driver crashed the car, managed to flee by the time the police got there, but left the passenger. The passenger got charged with drinking and driving. I'm not sure how it ended it court.

Never be judged by a hungry jury. If it's late and no food has been ordered for the jury, DEMAND to carry over to the next day. I've been on juries where someone says 'I don't care but let's all agree so we can get out of here and go eat!' And suddenly there is a full vote.

You can vote however you want, as you want. No one can force you unless the judge has a credible reasom to nullify a decision and even that can be appealed.

Yeah as the Trier of Fact it is 100% your prerogative to find someone innocent even if you are certain they are guilty and you can’t get in trouble for it. If someone breaks an unjust law and you want to find them innocent that’s perfectly legal.

the question isnt "did they do it" the question is "should they be punished". If someone comes in for stabbing their rapist, or their child's rapist, I say let them go. I saw an article a while back about a father that stabbed his daughters rapist, the daughter was 8 years old. I don't think the father belongs in jail, yes he stabbed someone, but eh, I am willing to overlook that when I see his reasoning for that. Apparently according to the article, they didnt have enough proof that he raped her to get convicted, so the rapist would have walked free. and that was what set the father off, knowing that the child rapist would go free

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group In regards to military grade bombs and missiles, it takes actual effort to make one go off on the ground. Like, you literally have to go out of your way to arm the fuse, then sit around for a timer to detonate said bomb. Its not like in the movies, where a soft breeze or some nutjob with a hammer, will make a bomb just explode for no reason.

This is more true than most people will ever realize. Military quality explosives are very safe and stable. C4, a common misrepresented explosive in movies, requires heat and pressure to explode. This means C4 can literally be lit on fire and it will not explode. However, the stability does make explosives dangerous and safe at the same time. For example, in the mid 90’s I was using military explosives manufactured in the 40’s. This is why when people find old unexploded ordinance it is taken seriously.

Most bombs shown in action movies could be disarmed by simply pulling out the detonators. C4 also doesn't go off if you shoot it.

Actually: depends on the type and age of the explosive. Many chemical explosives tend to become unstable with age ... eventually reaching the point where a "nutjob with a hammer" could set one off relatively easily.

Many military weaponry is illegal to possess. Recently in Southern California someone found Two rocket launchers and a practice grenade were in a dumpster. With local law enforcement, gear is well traced using serial numbers and who handled what and when, I suspect the same goes for the military gear. Stolen military guns and gear have been found in police raids of bad guys. What scares me is the crazed ultra fanatical pro Nazi guys who want to see the world burn, many are expected-military. https://www.npr.org/2022/04/01/1090178116/rocket-launchers-bazooka-grenade-california-middle-school

I remember being surprised on some message board when the topic came up of not wanting to answer a door to a stranger: many responders felt if anyone knocked on their door, they had to answer or they were being "rude."

FCC law states it is perfectly legal to record a conversation between two or more people as long as one person knows it's being recorded. I've used this in a couple of court cases that were my own. Won both using this. I've also recorded conversations as a boss to an employee (sometimes with their knowledge and sometimes without) and it is LEGAL.

Most states are “one-party consent” states, meaning recordings are allowed as long as just one party to the conversation or phone call consents to the recording. This is true even if the consenting party is the one hitting the record button. Federal law takes this approach, as well. (18 U.S.C. Sec. 2511). One-party consent states usually allow a participant to the conversation to authorize a third-party to record the communication. Each States has its own laws. https://www.dewittllp.com/news-education/posts/2019/02/19/secretly-recording-conversations-in-the-workplace

I don't even understand why this wouldn't be allowed. If the boss isn't doing anything wrong, then why not record everything? Keeps everyone honest. They certainly have no problem recording their employees with cameras and tracking software on their computers, etc. Kind of drives me crazy. Bosses can promise all kinds of things or harass you and you can't bring proof of it to court? Oh hell no.

My leg will kick when my knee is thwacked with that red triangle hammer no matter what I’m doing! 🤣 Because it’s a reflex. Not controlled by thought…

40 Bits Of Knowledge People Learnt That Feel Almost Illegal To Know, Shared In This Online Group How to make Thermite. I don't know why, Thermite itself itsn't actually all that useful or destructive. It burns hot sure, but it's not going to melt anything very well without a proper vessel to contain and direct the heat into the thing you want to melt.

Taught in high school when I was a kid. Yes, it works. You can make all kinds of melted sand. It doesn't explode. It's fun though.

Ever heard of prime numbers? A number that is divisible only by one and itself. Also, dividing by zero is inadvisible. ;-)
