Fort Morgan was built between 1819 and 1833 and was utilized during the Spanish American War, WWI, WW2, and in the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864.
It is as beautiful as any cathedral. The age of this structure is awe inspiring. It is old enough that stalactites have formed on the ceiling from over 180 years of water seeping through brick.
When you first arrive, this is all you can see, a tunnel in a hill, like a Hobbit house. You may think you came all this way for nothing of significance.
As you travel through the tunnel, you move backwards in history. Already, the brickwork is gorgeous.
Hmm, maybe there is something here worth looking at?
A newer addition is visible now. How disappointing!!
WAIT! Look at this amazing arched structure!
Stalactites on the ceiling!
Patina on brick. Am I alone in finding this beautiful?
Silent but for the sound of dripping moisture.
The light and colors are stunning
