Because of the overwhelming reaction to Aberdeen’s first horror convention, organisers already have plans to hold a bigger and better Horror Con Scotland in 2023.

Laura Ripley – The “master of fear management” (as she likes to refer to herself) also chose to rebrand the event for the following year, changing Aberdeen Horror Con to Horror Con Scotland.

The 2022 event will take place on October 30 at Aberdeen Altens Hotel, and is nearly sold out. The event has already raised over £1000 for Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland.

And next year, Laura would particularly like to focus on women working in the horror industry.

Only 5.9% of horror movie directors are women and it’s only about 17% of horror authors – the figures aren’t very big.

“We’re going to try to get a panel of women from all these different areas for a Q&A session so audiences can ask them questions.

And obviously, with me being a woman in horror, I’m a minority. So I want to show other women out there that there is a whole other area they can get into and it’s not a male-only business.”

The event will also have a big focus on Scottish creatives, such as movie makers, authors, prop makers, cosplayers, etc.

Horror Con Scotland – a bigger version of Aberdeen Horror Con for over 18’s only – will be back on October 21 2023 and take place at the Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen. 10% of ticket sales will be donated to Friends of Anchor – Helping to make North-east Scotland’s cancer and haematology care the best it can be

We will have a food bank on the day for collections.

And fundraising on the day for Royal Conservatoire of Scotland – raising money for scholarships for aspiring scenic artists, prop makers, stage carpenters, costume makers, and set and costume designers.

As an event focusing on creatives, we want to help keep creatives in Scotland, and not lose some of our best talents to other places.
