I’ve always been a bit quirky. The quiet loner who spends most of her time in her own head. I often giggle at my own silly thoughts. Words, phrases, and everyday objects spark quirky imaginings in my mind.
I’ve always loved playing with words and as a child remember rearranging words when talking, speaking in different accents, and being fascinated by phrases and puns.
Unicorns Do Exist!
Art was a large part of my childhood, my education, and now my career as an art teacher. I draw, paint, carve stamps, sew, and printmaker throughout the year. When we were isolating during the pandemic I had to create an online learning program that used common art materials. This reignited my love for drawing and colored pencils!
Full of Optimism
I started drawing thoughts that popped into my head during the day. Pencils, glasses of wine, phrases I’d hear- all sparked my imagination and inspired my drawings.
My most recent sketch ‘Unicorns Do Exist!’ was inspired by my daughter wearing a colorful unicorn headband. It just made me see a corn cob graduating from uni.
Pick Me!
I don’t try to make my pictures perfect. I know which parts don’t look right and the areas that could be improved. I make a point of not apologizing or announcing the imperfections. I want my drawings to jump onto the page almost as quickly as the thoughts jump into my head! I like that they’re quick and imperfect. It helps me embrace all of my flaws, not just the ones I see on the paper.
Spray It, Don’t Say It!
Creating silly illustrations of my quirky thoughts allows me to be myself and hopefully, it inspires others to do the same. I just want to share some of my silly.
