Fact – not everything you see on Instagram is actually true. Many people these days try to convince others how amazing their life is by spending hours trying to choose the prettiest filter, the best angle and get as many likes as possible. And this Instagram account, called You Did Not Sleep There, makes fun of them.
It was started in 2015 by Luisa Jeffery from Portland, Oregon, who then went on a trip to the Grand Canyon with her friends. One of them suggested to set up a tent just to take a picture for one outdoor retailer. Jeffery was surprised to learn that people did it all the time just for pictures and that it was actually “a thing." Once back home, she was inspired to start an Instagram account to point out the ridiculousness of this campers’ trend.
However, Jeffery perfectly understands that there might actually be some people who did sleep in those locations and not everything is staged. “But it’s not about being wrong or right at all, it’s just about calling out clichés and making people laugh. I have never taken this that seriously,” the author told National Geographic.

This one isn't so bad. At least it's not about to dangle off the edge of something!
Hummm the bottom 2 or 3 people get to deal the the bears and wild cats first.
You just had to put it right on the edge. Nooo not the slightly more believable middle that's still a cliff, HAD to be the edge.
Me in the morning: “i gotta go to the bathroom brb” *walks out falls into water*
that looks cool, i wouldnt do that but i do love her for doing that
At least these people put the door on the side that's NOT over a cliff.
Fact – not everything you see on Instagram is actually true. WAIT!! WHAT!! I thought the rule was that anything placed on the internet was true......... I need to take some time and wrap my head around this.......
Debunking Instagram would be a lifetime job. Wait...probably tagging pictures showing realistic situations, not just taken to be placed on the Internet would be more easy. Takes a few days. Oh, also do not include anything altered, optimized, filtered? Really just keep real pictures of real people doing real things for real fun? Looks we're done in an hour. You can download those five pictures now. (/cynicism)
Load More Replies...I'm confused. Where do they make fun of them? The pictures are all breathtaking and though I wouldn't dream of camping in any of those places, well each to their own!
Because a lot of them are plain ridiculous, and unapologetic about it. None of us would actually camp in these places, and that's the point; Many of them look like one wrong move would lead to your death. They didn't actually camp there, they just took pictures. Which is apparently the norm on Instagram.
Load More Replies...I can't even imagine what people are thinking when they do this "yay i'm gonna sleep on a ledge because i want to take some good Instagram pictures before i fall to my death"
That's the point. They didn't sleep there. They just staged the pictures so they could pretend to be hardcore.
