One doesn’t need to look too far to find acts of stupidity where common sense has taken a backseat. You can easily find facepalm-worthy moments of popular celebrities online. But it’s not just them; most of us, at some point have acted foolishly.

However, it’s ignorant people who don’t take time to pause and reflect. They often stick to their opinions, no matter how irrational they sound. These people are oblivious to their own shortcomings. Sometimes when they are presented with a chance to learn and grow, they find it difficult to break free from their usual habits.

These are the people we complain about when complaining about the US, not the normal people living there. Maybe clarifying that can prevent a huge us vs Europe fight here.

Reasoning with such stubborn people can be quite frustrating. And some people deal with these hopeless instances by calling out stupid people online. Just like members of the r/facepalm group, who have been doing this since August 2009. In the last 15 years, they have amassed a community of more than 8 million people, who often share the most disappointing moments they have witnessed.

But what exactly is stupidity? It’s when our ability to learn and understand things gets messed up. Several prominent psychologists believe that cognitive limitations are the reason behind people’s foolish actions and irrational beliefs. Research highlights how human cognition and decision-making persistently cause these biases. Depending on the situation, people switch from quick, intuitive thinking to slow, logical thinking.

Indeed it doesn't - it just requires you to pass a law to force pregnant women to carry their babies to term. Then you walk away, job done - it's not your problem to feed, nurture and bring up the kid, she should have thought about that before she allowed herself to get made pregnant. You had power and you used it - the results are someone else's worry.

Or part of it’s even more sinister- the domestic adoption market (billions/year) needs…‘products’ to satisfy demand, so let’s force women and girls to give birth and to then have to give the babies up for adoption because they can’t take care of them.. That way we can commit horrific crimes (forced birth) against women which we enjoy *and* make money out of it, too! Bastards… 😤

This is why I'm pro-choice. These people don't give two flying shites about the baby once it's born, and for all they know, the woman could have a health condition, like PCOS or PKD, something that prevents her from staying pregnant. She could be in an abusive relationship, that baby could be being born into a home where it will be abused. So stfu, and leave women who want abortions alone.

New families really do need additional and ongoing support and guidance. I don't know what I have done without my Baby First Home Visitor and the Public Health nurse coming over every week for the first 2 years. They were the first baby professionals to actually witness my daughter's early childhood seizures we didn't know were seizures. My Home Visitor was the one who helped me find a school that catered to young mothers so I could continue my education. It wasn't always easy and I had some real scares that forced me to turn around some bad sleeping habits. But I'm thankful for the support that was provided without social workers getting involved and trying to find every little reason to apprehend my kid.

40% of kids in child care end up on d***s and homeless. Most are damaged from the many "moves" and substandard (health) care. The average child lives in 5 different homes. Mental and physical abuse are chronically under reported. It s only a precious few that are lucky enough to be able to live happy and successful lives. "Pro-Life has nothing to do with after birth care" is irresponsible and down right criminal. You dont put kids into the world you re not prepared to care for. Aside from all that: having a baby or not is no-ones business but the pregnant woman's

Nah, you'd prefer an underaged meth addict carry her baby to term instead of a $400 abortion - so she AND the baby can be held in the hospital at a basic rate of $23,000 (US, providing there are no ADDITIONAL medical concerns) because the kid is born addicted & then Mom could very well go to jail. All of which your taxes support. I never hear ONE of you HYPOCRITICAL MOTHERF*CKERS offering to pay the bill or adopt the kid. SO SHUT THE F*CK UP.

That is a very ignorant perspective on a situation that has complexities I don't think you are capable of understanding. What about when a girl gets raped by, say, a family member and becomes pregnant. Do you think that child should have that baby? If you think abortions are only happening with women who just don't want a baby, then you are part of the problem.

I don't think so. They deliberately don't call themselves Anti-Abortionists or Pro-In-Womb-Lifers, but Pro-Lifers. And life definitely does not end with birth (unless the baby is born dead). So if they really were pro (any) life, they'd have to be more than willing to support/foster home/adopt children whose parents can't take care of them...or whose mothers did not ever want to carry them in their womb and give birth to them.

Now, our brain’s frontal lobes are responsible for rational thinking. But it can be overridden by the amygdala, a small, almond-shaped structure that usually processes emotions, like fear and aggression. Neuroscientists noted that in emergencies requiring quick decision-making, slower, rational information processing is ignored by the brain.

So, cognitive biases can help us understand some of the stupid decisions people make. For instance, people can be vulnerable to confirmation bias, where they tend to stick to information based on their existing beliefs. In such cases, they just ignore any evidence that contradicts them.

Imagine someone who strongly believes in a particular conspiracy theory. They will not think twice before dismissing any evidence or arguments that contradict their preconceived idea. This selective attention to available information can make them make nonsensical remarks.

Before making any remarks, we should try and educate ourselves about the topic. This spares us the embarrassment of sounding foolish and helps us make a more thoughtful and informed choice. We should acknowledge our ignorance to confront the pitfalls of stupidity. Questioning our assumptions is a great way to have a more grounded perspective on life.

Self-awareness helps us gain deeper insights into our behavior. We can also try learning from our past experiences. Consider a scenario where someone made a foolish comment on Insta. Did any of these posts make you want to facepalm? What is the most stupid, ignorant thing you’ve read online recently? Don’t forget to share your experiences below.

When it has burned through a rope, an egg is released down a ramp landing in a frying pan until a hungry tortoise starts heading toward it and pulls the trigger causing a watertap to open and fill a bathtub with rubber ducks in it.
