Cars are one of the most dangerous forms of transportation, second only to motorcycles. But since they’re such a routine part of daily life, it’s easy to forget how risky they can be. Being on the ground doesn’t feel nearly as intimidating as flying 40,000 feet in the air, after all.

The real concern, though, is that on the road, you’re constantly surrounded by other people—unlike planes, which don’t exactly have to worry about traffic jams in the sky. And let’s be honest, people can make some pretty ridiculous decisions behind the wheel.

Just take a look at the pictures we’ve gathered of some truly questionable drivers, and you’ll see exactly what we mean. Stay safe out there!

Wife and I were both heading to work, dude was tailgating her. She slowed and turned on her L signal, -bam- rear ender. He pulls around and takes off, 'never a cop around when you need one'?..Nope, deputy sheriff, who was behind him, lights him up, pulls him over. We were advised to stay there by the other cop who came after being called. Got to witness guy get cuffed and stuffed for an outstanding warrant.

Many years ago, when I worked for a beekeeper, we went to check a bee yard beside a little traveled road and discovered that someone had amused himself by pushing the hives over with a truck. He wasn't hard to find though, because he left his license plate behind. I'd like to think he saw when it fell off, but couldn't get out of his truck to retrieve it without getting stung.

Do they have a registration sticker on the front plate? This plate seems to have one, and it seems pretty unlikely to be from the rear.

Quite a few years ago, a woman (just happened to be) was driving behind a semi on US 127 near Harrison Mich in a whiteout condition. She got too close, and the front of the car was somehow hooked by the ICC bar. She went on an unwanted ride. The news footage of the vehicle after the fact was hilarious (no one hurt, just scared sh**less), absolutely caked with snow.

Last Weekend, I Was The Idiot. Didn't Notice Until 1h Down The Road

I was thinking the gas station took advantage of them but after googling apparently "holy c**p gas pump hoses are expensive." ----- "It is expensive if the nozzle, breakaway and hose are all damaged. A breakaway costs $100 to $120. The hose is about $160. The nozzle is the most expensive, in the $350-plus range."

Thanks for looking into this. It seems like the gas station may have actually only charged them their actual cost or at the very least, this gas station doesn't seem to have taken advantage. Also not sure when this happened? It could have been in the early 2000's, going by the vehicle in this photo anyway. Which now that I think about it, is probably a stock photo that BP added. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It happens because they lock the trigger on the pump and go and do something else whilst their car fills up. As far as I am aware only the US allows this. In the UK and Europe the is no lock and you have to hold the trigger with your hand.

Gee Whiz, I Sure Hate Being Able To See Anything At All While Driving At Night So Thanks For Illuminating My Visibility To Zero

Car interior at night with bright headlights in mirrors, illustrating common driving hazards.

Disclaimer: photos taken safely at a red light!
While no picture can capture the essence of this somehow not illegal car lights, I feel like the literal twinkle streaks is a good indicator.
This person was behind me (and several others) most of my commute. Lights like this clearly aren’t for the driver’s visibility benefit since many are affixed to trucks requiring a miniature ladder to hop in, so what is the point other than Main Character douchebaggery?

I legit just had this happen to me, less than an hour ago. I ran to McDonald's to get a late night snack and I have a pretty low to the ground car. It's a Honda Accord coupe and I had some dbag, who was clearly overcompensating, in an F-350, lifted, with those ridiculously bright lights, behind me in the drive thru. I had to sit with my arm in a certain position, in order to help me from being blinded, from his lights reflected in my mirror, for almost 10 minutes. They're the worst and I've pulled over to let some of them pass me, just so I don't have to deal with it.

So much douchebaggery with lifted trucks. I went to my local CVS a few days ago and this giant truck with ridiculously large tires was parked diagonally across two spots with the truck idling. I guess his (because you know it was a he) passenger went into the store, and the ásshole couldn’t even be bothered with parking normally.

Not everywhere. In NY there's no specific law saying you have to remove snow from your car. If the snow obstructs the driver's own view, like covering the rear window, they can be cited for reckless driving but snow on the roof like this is perfectly legal. Crazy but true.

I hope they got a big ticket for driving like this. They didn't even attempt to clean off that vehicle, with over a foot + of snow, probably closer to 2 feet. Even if the whole thing doesn't fly off at once, while you're driving behind them, it can still cause damage/problems/accidents

In Indiana, USA, we get ticketed if we don't move to the opposite lane when passing stopped motorists. It's especially bad if one of the vehicles is a state trooper car. Must have been a lot of traffic forcing OP to stay in the right lane. Hope OP was traveling very slow.

We had a woman up here in Puget Sound who was hit by boards coming off the truck in front of her and going through her windshield. I've seen pics of her before this happened and she was just beautiful. Well, she's not beautiful now after a board hit her in the face and she's blind as well. So now we have a law that requires loads to be tied down and people still do what these idiots are doing. Do these people not have any braincells to think with?

First thing I would do is get away from them. Next is call 911 to report them. A few mos ago lady that works at a local TV Station was on her way home 1 day. A truck or van in front of her ran over a pry bar on the road, it flew into her windshield barely missing her head. Her car has cameras and they showed the video and talked to her on camera, she is NOT a reporter herself.

I hate that... everyone is driving bigger gas guzzling vehicles because too many other people have giant gas guzzlers that make it hard to see from a normal car. My family keeps trying to convince me to trade in my car for an SUV but I stubbornly refuse. I admit that it's nice driving a borrowed truck and seeing so much more but will never own one.

It's one thing if you want to be an idiot and wear no protection, whatsoever, while riding your motorcycle, but do not risk an innocent childs life. This poor little guy is dependent on the fact that you are a responsible adult, who is looking out for his best interests and safety. I hope this guy was identified and charged with, at least, reckless child endangerment.

They're a special kind of stupid! If they get hit, like they probably want too, I guarantee that Insurance Company will deny their claim in a heartbeat. Even, if they try to sue, then they'll lose, because NO IC will even think about paying out and their Lawyer's are better then yours. Plus, they'll tie that s**t up in court for YEARS rather then payout for stupidity.

I was on my bike heading for the Bartell D***s parking lot when I saw someone back into a light pole in reverse, going over the curb of the parking lot and into the pole. I was waiting in line at the pharmacy when the driver and her friend came in. She was upset and said she hit reverse by accident. Someone must have called the police, as an officer came in and asker her some questions, I assume to find out if she was drunk or maybe a little off due to her age.

My dog Rocky also likes to sit in the back with his head over the side but he is always secured by a safety strap from his harness to the bulkhead and once the speed gets to around 30 mph he always ducks back inside. Giving Mitt Romney vibes. He admitted to putting his dog on top of the car in a crate like this, twice. Dog had diarrhea all over the car (GOOD BOY!!) but Romney insists the dog was fine.

I bet the trunk detected an obstacle (dog bed) and reversed itself back open. The driver probably doesn't know because he can't see out the back. It's happened to me, but not with a dog. Good boi isn't getting out, though, so that's good.

Not to mention, that he has the seatbelt wrapped around the arm, that activates your emergency brake. If he hits a big pot hole, jerks the car, or whatever, there's a good chance that they will end up in an accident.

I had prob like this, latch wasn't working and on national recall waiting list. I put the passenger belt through drivers belt and latched the passenger belt into the passenger latch. Did the same thing when there was a passenger. They were properly safe and I was as safe as I could make it...at least it was latched.

Depending upon what has happened, it may be that something has caused the wheel to become stuck and he is trying to free it in order to be able to push the car out of the junction. I had the silencer (muffler) partially fall off my classic and it jammed itself into the rear wheel arch preventing the wheel from turning. I had to crawl under the car in the middle of a busy high street to undo the retaining bolt to release it and get it out. This was made more difficult by the fact that it was still hot. Unlike this poor guy, I did actually get an offer of help. It was soon fixed, but it was a noisy drive home!

Almost looks like a junk yard car. There is a local junk yard that had a couple of cars in really bad shape that ran but were missing various parts. They used them just in their own yard when they were driving out to the back to bring some engine or part back up to the front. In other words, basically motorized carts. But they didn't take those cars on the public roads.

Ans she parked in the middle, blocking all traffic! Hmm. When she finished loading, did she leave her shopping card in the middle, too??

Looks like someone might have been kicked out of wherever they were staying and had to take all their belongings in one trip.

Is that a violation sticker on the drivers window? Could be homeless, coffee cup on the trunk.

Could be newly purchased and have a temporary tag in the window. Still illegal that it isn't visible, though. Then again, it will be once all that furniture goes flying.

How awful and sad. I'm not sure how much further that car is going to be able to make it, driving on that spare tire, that is trying it's hardest to support all that excess weight in the back. I'm also wondering how those boxes have managed to stay on the back trunk, while driving at highway speeds? 🤔

Kalikima, I'm pretty sure the red thing is a car dolly. It's a two wheel thing that hitches to the tow bar. The car being towed (normally) has its front wheels on the dolly in about the same position as the dolly's wheels. In the picture above, it appears they did not have the front axle strapped down and at some point hit the brakes hard enough the car slid forward on the dolly and is now resting on the hitch portion of the car dolly. If that's not clear, google "car dolly" and you will see lots of pictures of how they look with and without cars on them.
