I Created My Book To Explain Borderline Personality Disorder To Younger Readers (10 Pics)
My name is Dima Eichhorn, and I am a children’s book author and illustrator. My most recent project is called “Monday with Miss Kitty”. The main idea while writing and illustrating “Monday with Miss Kitty” was to create a book that can exist as an ordinary bedtime story on its own and also be a useful tool/resource for explaining borderline personality disorder to younger readers.

“Monday with Miss Kitty” is a picture book that follows a typical day in the life of a cat, beginning with an early morning meow, continuing through midday playtime, and ending with an evening stroll outside. The story takes on a humorous note due to the discrepancy between words and pictures.
However, “Monday with Miss Kitty” is more than a picture book about the day of a mischievous cat. Because Miss Kitty’s behavior is an accurate illustration of a person with a borderline personality disorder, this book can be a useful tool for professionals, parents, and relatives to gently and understandingly explain the disorder to young children.
The inspiration for "Monday with Miss Kitty" comes from my own childhood, where mental health issues were present but not properly discussed in my family and especially with us - the children. I had a difficult time comprehending and accepting them for a very long time. I believe it's critical to have discussions regarding mental health with our children, even when they are young, in order for all of us to grow and live in a healthy environment.
The difference between "Monday with Miss Kitty" and my other books is that I did a lot of research on borderline personality disorder before even starting to write the text. I later used the assistance of a cognitive-behavioral therapist, who helped me match the behavior of the main character as closely as possible to that of a person with borderline personality disorder. The collaboration with the specialist reflected not only how I worked on the text but also on the illustrations.
Poor Miss Kitty is dealing with a distorted self-image. But she’s beautiful.
I don't get it please explain how this describes borderline personality disorder
The message I got was BPD is like being a cat. I mean, I guess I could see some similarities, and I suppose that would be a good way to introduce the topic to kids. This is supposed to be a children's book, and kids understand things better when compared to something familiar. When I was a kid, my dad compared my mom's bipolarism to Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (the book, not the movie), and I was like, "Ohhhh! Yep, that kind of makes sense."
Load More Replies...My sibling has BPD. This doesn’t give an accurate sense of what it entails. It’s a hurricane of emotions, a roller coaster that takes you up and down without you being able to stop at the stable emotional floor. This is cute but it’s not BPD.
You are totally right and unfortunately I can share here with only 10 images the complexity of the disorder, but in the book I've used text combined with over 50 images to do so. If you are interested to read it, you can access it with kindle unlimited. Thank you for the feedback! Best wishes!
Load More Replies...Miss Kitty needs to attack absolutely nothing, knock over everything on the counter, steal her soft can-opener's food, and climb up a wall.
