I Create Fun Puppets That Anyone Can Make From Few Pieces Of Paper And Some Glue
Things that move mesmerise me. So when I look at a stack of paper, I don’t just want to make something – I want to make something that has life to it. I’ve been building things out of paper for years now, but I wanted to create things that were not only simple enough for anyone to build with a little free time, but also things that could freely move. Watching kids (and adults!) play with puppets in a toy store was an inspiration.
We like our toys in this age, but we don’t always like building them ourselves, which is such a loss. We grow attached to the things we create. We feel accomplished when it comes from our own effort. There’s a certain pride that comes from turning nothing into something. I want to capture that and then take it a step further to open up the possibility to play with what we’ve created.
Most puppets can be built in an hour or two with just a few sheets of paper, scissors, and a little white glue. Different coloured paper can make for lots of variations on the design, or if you’re particularly artistic, you can paint your own to create some beautiful results.
